Too many hypocritical edgelords jumping on this guy for a simple question. How you want the game to be isn't any more valid than what he wants.
Do you really want to link every item in chat if you don't have to?
This makes it easier...as long as you're not just being selfish.
I guess the question really comes down to this:
What's more important the 1 purple temper that you might get, the 51 gold from vendoring that item, or helping someone get the gear they need?
If you answered either of the first two, then you're just selfish.

Im all for sharing drops and stuff. I do it pretty much every time.
But for people to act like they are entitled to know what I got, or that the time it takes to link items in chat is a good excuse to display my info, is just silly to me.
If someone ever asks me for an item because they saw it drop to me, I'll refuse to give it to them just because. It feels pushy and intrusive.

If he was that demanding i bet he left the group as well?
Yeah this seems ridiculous to me. What's the problem with people being able to see what loot you got? They might attempt to engage you in conversation to see if you'd be willing to trade the item you got to them - oh the humanity!

Or you could engage in conversation with your group at the beginning of the dungeon. Say hello and tell them you are looking for a specific piece instead of just snooping in their bags until they get something you want and only then engage them.

They are simply asking for a way to hide their loot. Everyone feels entitled to everything. And others being able to spy on your loot can get annoying. Yes I just say no if it's something I do the want/need. But if not I will tell them no. It will be accepted but still annoying that I was put in that situation.
And all OP is asking is if there is something that hides your loot from others. All of you are just trying to show how amazing you are with long "clever" ways of telling op to say no. Chill out jeeeez.
for some inexplicable and weird reason a lot of players are still using addons to see the group loot, and for those who play frequently on group events this is really annoying since we have to constantly deal with intrusive beggars. the only solution i found until now is an addon to mute the players, but i was looking for a better way, a way to prevent the group to see what am i looting. is there any way to do that?

Just be thankful atleast the mod doesn't broadcast it like in WoW, ha.

I feel your pain. I had the same issue with a group I ran trials with. It peeved me off to know end getting people whispering me and begging me for a piece of loot that dropped before I even had the time to take a look at what I had gotten and decide whether or not I wanted it.
It got to the point I now run with the general rule that if someone begs me for my loot before I post it for trade myself, everything but what I want to keep gets sold to the vendor! Gold rings and all!!! And if people whine about it in teamspeak, I tell them that sorry, but such and such a player decided to bug me for the loot before I posted it, so every one looses out.
I f'n hate that addon!!

This is a good plan. Give one person the power to troll the whole group. Well done.
On a related note maybe you should start ignoring the people that bother you. Since you seem to be running with a bunch of people who beg you for your loot and then whine in teamspeak about it.
I guess if you want to keep grouping with a bunch of dingdongs that is cool, but ignoring them and looking for a better group seems like it would work out better for you.

As the group gets ready to start, people quickly announce the sets and pieces they are looking for. If I find one of those I link it. It's like this in almost every run I do with the group finder and seems pretty standard.
@SolidusPrime That's not how it works from what I have seen. I allways state what I need at start then I'll wait until the end and several times I see loot I need drop but no1 announce it. So at the end I just play dumb and ask if any1 got the items that I need (that I know dropped because of addon.). That makes them actually look at there loot and then if they don't need it i'll get it. But because of people like you I play dumb so no1 get offended win win for every1.

This is a rather negative viewpoint. Most that I've seen certainly don't feel entitled. They merely ask.
I expect a few really want it bad and offer gold. It would be very rare to find someone who feels entitled though I'd put that into the same boat as the oppinion I quoted.

Well it changed their behaviour real quick once they realized what I was doing, so as far as I'm concerned mission accomplished. So now I'm no longer bothered until I've posted what I'm willing to give away.
I must hail from a different planet, because where I come from people say "No" when they feel disinclined to entertain a request.
do you come from a planet where people check what you have in your bag?
anyway... i don't have any problem saying "No", i've been saying that to everyone who knows my loot...i was just trying to find out if anyone knew an addon or some way to prevent the loot broadcast.
if players can use an addon to see the other players loot, why wouldn't another player have the right to search for a way to prevent that? what's so wrong about it?

@cpuScientist Are you trolling right now, or are you unaware of what trolling is.
OP is saying they dislike this feature of the API and the mods that make use of it, others are saying they think it's fine and can be resolved by simply keeping one's loot if they want to. Encouraging someone to stand up and say "no" when they don't wish to do something is not trolling.

Do you come from a planet where you slay giant monsters and cut off its head and have it magically turn into a helmet all the while also taking a giant sword out of its kangaroo pouch in front of people and no one's sees?
