(5 items) When you kill a player they violently explode for 16605 Flame Damage to all other enemies in a 4 meter radius.
5pc states, 'When you kill a player'. This tells me that, when the target dies, this effect occurs period. There is no chance, it simply happens.
Compare to Tremor ScaleTremor Scale Set:
(1 items) Adds 967 Max Stamina
(2 items) When you taunt an enemy, you have a 50% chance to cause a duneripper to burst from the ground beneath them, dealing 6500 Physical Damage to all enemies within 4 meters and reducing their Movement Speed by 70% for 8 seconds. This effect can occur once every 4 seconds.
2pc states, 'When you taunt an enemy, you have a 50% chance..'. This tells me that there is a chance an additional effect can occur. Thus is a proc.

Magicka Furnace is a proc. Bloodspawn is a proc.
And next patch, damage and healing procs won't crit anymore. Therefore, VD shouldn't crit. If it does, its mechanically inconsistent.
Arya is right that VD used to be stronger prior to the heavy armor buffs, but let's be honest, it was op back then. I remember finally breaking down and getting my set a couple weeks into Thieves Guild, killing 164 or something like that players in an hour without dying, and barely using it since. It's a silly set which rewards simple play, but it's no more silly than aoe caps. I do believe VD has its place in the game as long as aoe caps exist, and I believe it will remain strong in Homestead despite the nerfs and heavy armor meta.

I wish Blood Spawn could crit. I don't know exactly what about it would crit, but I wish it would.

What nerf to the range? Also last night I was still hitting ppl for 12k+ non crit. Still seems pretty viable when fighting largely outnumbered maybe just not so good when fighting organized groups that are smaller than your size. We will have to wait and see but I feel as though I'm going to be nearly as effective as last patch w/o changing anything.

The range was nerfed awhile back cut in half I believe. Last night on full tank builds I was still hitting around 9-10K. If they blocked would only be around 4-5K. It's still viable on flags and major choke points with a lot of them stacked. Not so great elsewhere. On the plus side Proxy is now hitting harder for those situations as the AOE cap reduction is helping out.
