Forum Mods on ESO Live Days (and Other Days with Announcements)

Looking at the plethora of threads popping up just now based on info from today's ESO Live, and the speed at which mods jump in to close duplicate threads in order to consolidate discussion, I kind of wonder about their process.

Do they plan in advance to make sure that several mods (more than usual I mean) are actively scanning the forums for duplicate threads on days when there is an ESO Live or some other announcement?

When there are duplicate threads on the same topic, how do they decide which one shall remain and which ones shall be closed? Is it based on which one was first, which one has the most activity, some other metric I haven't thought of, or is it largely arbitrary?

How do they decide whether 2 threads have discussions that are sufficiently different for them to leave both threads active, or whether one should be closed and people redirected to the other?

I'm just curious, and it would be great if a mod wanted to hop in and offer a little bit of insight here, but I also understand if they don't really want to do so.

I'm not sure that they do always go with the one that was created first, although the "negative and toxic" criteria is one that slipped my mind when posting this thread. Of course you're right - if one of the threads has turned very negative and toxic I would imagine they would take that into account when deciding which thread to lock.

I just assumed they looked at who created which topic and closed the...appropriate one.
I also assume they pull more mods to the forum during live shows and particular announcements.

Pretty sure they just skim the topic too. So it could be of a topic that was different but similar, and end up getting closed and everyone redirected to the 'main' topic even though it's not the same thing.
