Why is fishing not more popular?

I might actually fish, if each zone had a chance to catch a set weapon piece.

Weapon pieces are the worst thing to farm.

    - Add an XP reward for each fish caught (it should be the same amount of XP you get for killing 1 standard overland monster).
    - Add random sea monsters that sometimes appear when you catch a fish (or a monster in this case) that have an interesting loot drop table and can drop almost anything with a very low chance.

It's boring with little reward. I wish they made fishing require more skill rather than pushing one button. I would love to see fishing turn into somewhat of a mini game that allowed players to upgrade poles and lines. Also the ability to actually see a fish and mount it in your house would be cool.

Your post reminded me of my childhood game animal crossing. I loved collecting specimens to add to the museum. I'd go fishing if it means I can have an aquarium showing off my fishes!

I fish very rarely because it's boring. You push a button then stand there waiting to push another button. And you can't (text) chat, or check your inventory or go afk or do anything except wait because you get so little time to reel in the rod once you catch a fish.

I do it very occasionally, but rarely enough that bait I find more than covers what I need.

Ive done some fishing as a quest objective for the New Life Festival. But before that nope haven't ever fished once. To be honest I find it dull. Why save a town or the leader of a faction, or craft a legendary sword when you can go...fishing. No thank you. And as far as I know its not very rewarding, more of a thing to do if your bored.

So do eso fishing to be even border than we are now?

These days gamers tend to look at the monetary extrinsic bottom-line when determining what is and isn't worth doing in a game. Somewhere along the line that has become the focus, not more intrinsic 'enjoyment'. They feel if they're not 'in the race' they're 'getting behind' or some such, as a player told me just the other day. I guess that has something to do with it.

Because youngins don't appreciate serenity - not really. They like the *idea* of zen, but the genuine article they are simply too caffinated for.

You have to turn off the music of the game, turn the sound effects to the lowest audible setting, turn ambient sounds to 100% so you are surrounded by the sound of waves/flowing water....turn on some jazz music. Prop your feet up.

And decompress from having to herd amped up goobers all day long who are so insecure they simply HAVE to fill every single moment of silence with sad, ego driven noise.

It really is top notch. When you lead an "always on", decision making life full of real responsability that you yearn for that peace. And there are many, many *many* truly lovely vistas and spots in this game to just *be* in rather than just backdrop to mashing mobs.

It may be a very tired and cliche idea, but in this case the fishing really is its own reward. And the zen remarks aren't tongue in cheek. A truth - there are few things as valuable in this world as a quiet mind at peace. It is a power, it makes you resilient...the calm in a storm, gravitas, etc. It isn't just a tree hugger thing. Think samurai.

Yes, because it could have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the task being completely dull in the first place. I'm sure you like to sit there and watch paint dry in real life too, but it doesn't mean the rest of us enjoy wasting our time doing it. Thanks for the equally dull psychoanalysis anyway.

Fishing does not really help anything else in the game aside from getting perfect roe for Psijic Ambrosia. I do it occasionally, like when I am queued for dungeons or cannot think of anything else to do. The Master Angler achievement interests me a little but not as much as everything else in the game.

Baits will not sell well while the supply is so readily available and the craft bag is available. I have about 8k of bait pieces that I will never use but I do not need to get rid of them due to the craft bag.

I think interactive fishing would be a pretty cool addition to the game. Tug left/right, reel in/out. Make fishing more like fighting a mob for certain types of fish/bait. I do think some fish types and bait types should be left closer to how it is now as a more relaxing/social option.

Fishing is very popular in Black Desert Online simply because it's deeply fleshed out and lucrative. It ties in boat building, the trading caravan part of the game, rare items as well as quests. Many players there feel like there's enough motivation to fish.

In ESO we have the much too rare perfect roe. Otherwise you just do it because you enjoy pressing the E key now and then. It's just a very primitive implementation in ESO that feels tacked on.

For me it is quite honestly because after fifteen minutes to half hour I am asleep. So I do not fish because fishing = sleeping. If I want to sleep I would rather be in bed rather then having the indention marks of various keys from my keyboard.

I dont like fishing because it has a cost unlike every other type of resource farm. I also dont like that its on a "random" timer so this fish bites can happen every 5 seconds or every 45. It makes the process more hands on - fishing should be relaxing but I find it stressful to watch the lure mindlessly for 30 seconds. Id rather they just make it more like other resources with 2 'swipes' and auto harvest. It also doesnt help the only thing of real value you can get is perfect roe - and its too rare. It makes fishing a very low profit activity. Im more likely to get temp alloys which will net me more gold in the long run.

Fishing is what it is, I've done all the related achievements and had moments of joy and anger. The funnest memory was fishing in PvP areas like Cyro and IC, the worst was trying to get the rares from a zone that only had 3-4 pool locations (Alki'r Desert's Foul pools for one).

That said ZOS should not make it easier to catch the rare fish, a lot of people spent their precious time in game working it the way its currently set up. I agree the Roe drop is depressingly low but I was still able to make over $1 million gold from it by the time I acquired Master Angler, (not including the $$$ I made from doing the DLC zones) and that was after they made Roe rarer.

2 things I think would make it more attractive: Better loot, like a rare mount or costume, something that can be fished up in each of the pool types and entice more people to try fishing out. The second would be ZOS incorporating the add-ons (I can't imagine fishing on console without them) that track what fish you still need in each zone and auto-fillet them. I know the gold food from New Life Festival tells you what type of bait to use and where nearby pools are so that's a start, but not nearly enough.

I just got master angler, and did it purely because of achievement only. The perfect roe and a few kutas, was just a bonus. I wont fish again unless its some dlc achievement.

Wet gunny-sacks are kind of boring and there's no diversity to the fish you do eventually catch. It's a grind. A grind that I don't mind really, but I can definitely see why people are turned away from it.

I can see fish trophies for housing, maybe some other collectables etc etc will drive people to gather round the usual spots!

I always fished with a friend, it makes it way way better. Fishing alone for the achievement is horrible. If they increased the drop rate of blue and green fish when fishing with a friend it would be nice, don't increase it when solo fishing. Also some areas have like two or three lake spots or whatever, increase the number of spots in areas like this, put foul water fish in dashaan in the foul water or remove the foul water from dashaan completely. Areas that lack something like ocean are fine, just continue to filter the extra fish through the other water types. Introduce a few more varieties of purple fish to different areas besides just wrothgar with a 1k value instead of 750.
Allow fileting of green, blue, and purple fish with a slightly higher chance of roe per level up.
Trophy fish you filet give a little higher quality fish meat, so for instance a green fish meat makes recipes using fish, 4% better, blue 6% better and purple 8% better.
Add a legendary (gold) fish that can be randomly caught anywhere that is especially rare and guarantees a perfect roe.

    Yes!
    And:
buff the drop rates for blue/green if using "caught" bait (roe, chub, minnow, shad).
increase the chance of Perfect Roe for each angler achievement earned.

    how to fish...

lay in a selection of your favourite beverages, maybe roll a few.

map out the areas you intend to fish.

boot up the other rig and find a good film to watch....

    enjoy.

You might, just might, not have things all figured out.

I remember back in college reading that retired Roman generals and emperors used to raise cabbages. It sounded sad and perplexing to me then.

Now 20 some years later I not only understand it I appreciate it.

Anyway, some of you dudes who say with such finality and implied machismo how useless it is really ought to try what I mentioned up above. Turn the in game music off. Turn the sound effects slider all the way down. Turn the ambient sounds to 100%. Turn master volume up. Find a nice spot in the mountains or the jungle. Do it a while. Adjust to it.

Or hey, have another red bull and crank up the music, brah!
