Bouncing

OK I just have to ask, is there really a benefit to hopping and bouncing on the battlefield? If so is there any data to back up the claims? I have killed just as many players hopping around as I have ones that are not bouncing all over the place.

Not sure why people do this. It's annoying, for one thing, but it doesn't decrease your chances of being hit.

I have asked this question myself, I kill them just as easy as someone not hopping, I know in some games it made a difference on targeting but not in this game, I was watching a stream of Overwatch the other day 90% of the players were hopping looked like a bad rabbit movie LOL

I have heard it does something to help you avoid ground effects not sure, maybe they should attach a stamina cost to it like dodge roll.. :)

It really does nothing, but can help a person with timing and I've found I can avoid the mini self-snare when using abilities like combat prayer.

I do it mostly to cope with my ADD. But it is actually useful to get LOS on targets above you or behind small objects that would provide LOS cover if both players had their feet on the ground.

I am glad that it is annoying. I think everyone should just jump in video games all the time like they do IRL. Life is my space bar.

This is true. As a DK, in PvE content I jump to gain LoS on further away mobs to pull them in with my chain, otherwise I would just be hitting the ones already grouped. I'm sure there are some practical applications in PvP as well.

It seems to be a type of focus technique in a way. I don't believe there is any real benefit, but I feel like when I am hopping I am more focused and aware of what's going on. I feel like hopping is more common on some classes than others. For example, when I'm on my magicka sorc I feel like every other button I press is space bar. It's almost like in FPS when people use to y y to switch weapons and then switch right back. It didn't really help them in any way, other than that it helped them focus.

To be read in David Attenboroughs voice

"It is a behaviour exhibited by the rare lesser spotted pvper, these elusive creatures have learnt to jump imidiately followed by targeting a new foe, this way they can shave a tiny fraction of the time off when they attack in a different direction. To the rest of us however it just looks like they are being a bit of a berk." :D

Other than cases where if you are running and jump, you can still maintain a little forward momentum if hit with a cc/immob/snare, it's mostly a rhythmic timing tool.

True I forgot about that. Also when going downhill you can do some pretty serious jumping if you time things right.

    1) To taunt people into leaving their zerg and coming after you.

    2) When WB was more widely used it was actually a really neat way to screw up someones aim so it missed (jumping through them was super effective at getting WB to untarget).

When you move backwards using the S key you travel faster if you jump. I like to jump out of a dodge roll as an enemy snare doesn't seem to take effect until I land on the ground again. Like mano said, abilities like combat prayer, solar barrage, healing ward (might of been fixed? havn't used recently) make your character stop when casting which can be prevented by jumping and casting. Also jumping up and down makes people more inclined to focus you, so if you are a blazing shield tank and want to get noticed, jumping up and down in plain sight can sometimes help.

It used to annoy the crap out of me. Just start doing it yourself and pretty soon you won't notice anyone else doing it.

I do it alot, different ressons:

    1. Jumping to the rythm of the music (mostly I play with music on). This is the main reason I bounce around

    2. Jumping around when I see "friendly" enemies to show them mean no harm.

    3. To trigger/bait people to chase me (into a trap ofc

    4. When I suicide in enemies to be able to respawn someplace else on the map.

    5. To gain forward momentum downhill.

    Prob forgot something. ^^

Blessing of Protection and its morphs have a snare when you cast, if you jump and cast it doesn't happen.

If you play console with bar swap on D-pad, jumping is used to stay in motion since you need to let go of the left analog stick which is what controls your movement. Some players have swapped sneak on R3 for Bar Swap on D-pad to make it easier to play. If you relie heavily on stealth, sneak on R3 is best and its what ive grown accustomed to. So jumping while bar swapping is what keeps me moving instead of stopping to bar swap. I generally always bar swap while jumping or roll dodging to make sure im always moving.

I asked the same question. I'm not sure if it was a lie or not, but apparently sometime in the past, jumping in ESO gave you mitigation or invincibility from incoming attacks for the split second you were in the air. I can't confirm that this was a bug back in the day though.

If you want to reposition yourself in a fight you can time jumping with blocking midair so you wont get slowed down too much while blocking.

Its risky tho because you have to drop blocking when you touch the ground again for half a sec untill you are in the air again otherwise you lose your momentum.
