Idk what to do with my templar

I just got to lvl 50 for the first time and I really don't know what to do with my templar. I really don't know what I'm doing. I don't have a build and I don't know how to craft, and I don't know if I should give up on my templar and make a new character.
I really don't know what to do with my templar.

I like magicka templar so I'm more into dps and healing. And I like PVE and PVP. And the gear and weapons that I use is dropped items
from mobs that I killed. And I really don't know which weapon and gear is good, so I just use items that i get by killing mobs

As a templar you have a few broad options.

    Magcika

    -Tank-
Blazing Shield tank are the funniest I've had in PvE. Stack HP (to increase shield size) and magicka regen (to sustain sheild), and run whatever 5pc's and 2pc undaunted you want for proc set AoE dmg. Remembering that shields are not effected by your resistance values (or players penetration values if you PvP), you can even wear light armour (if you keep your shield up 100% of the time) if you want extra regen or there is a set that only comes in light you really like. (I would recommend 5pc heavy though, 50% extra stam back on heavy attacks helps your sustain. Extra resistance always good for "oh ***" moments).

This build works well with the vampires "Drain Essence" heal, as it restores a % of your max HP (and you will have a lot of HP). However, with all the HP regen sets (Permafrost, Troll King, Beekeepers) you could totally run a successful regen build (without being vampire, of course).

    -Healer/DPS-
Remembering that heals and damage are scaled off the same stats (max magicka and spell dmg), every templar healer should also be a damage dealer (except vet trials unless you super pro). Being magicka specc'd allows you to do this easier then any other class. General setup would be restoration bar for healing, destro or dual wield for damage, with BoL on your dmg for "oh darn" moments. Personally never run a build like this, but there are 100's of guides out there for this type of setup.

    -All Magicka Builds-
Repentance: spam when mobs die to give your team mates (and yourself) resources back.
Shards: If you've got the time to spare any stamina team mates you have would probable find use for these.

    Stamina

    -DPS-
The beloved PvP stamplar is not as strong in PvE, relying almost entirely on weapons skills for DoT's and AoE's (apart from jabs). Much stronger in PvP and nothing special in PvE, but can still pump out dps good enough anything.

    -Tank-
Nothing particularly special here either unfortunately. Perfectly able to tank anything in game but not any useful class skills (apart from rune focus for resistance or shards and repentance for stamina (provided no magicka templars in the group already running these)).

    -All Stamina Builds-
Same as above, just might be stretched for the extra magicka.

    End Note

Personally I think templar is more fun specc'd into magicka, more options, better homogenised with class skills. Stamplar was PvP king for a little while with their cheap class cleanse and major mending. From my perspective magicka can do anything really well, stamina can tank and dps, but only really special for PvP dps.

they have good PvP DPS as with many stam builds being the meta.

hundings rage, look into some of those poison builds. look up fengrush or sypher and deltias gaming they can explain things better than I can but at least this will get you in the right direction.

Templars are very versatile and fun to play. or go all recovery and be a heal bot.

You can be an awesome DPS, an awesome Healer, and awesome Tank or an awesome Solo build.

Or you can roleplay all day. Or steal stuff and murder innocents.

It's all up to what you want to do.

What does your Templar dream of being?

If you just hit 50, dont overthink it. To be honest, you arent there yet. If you liked the game so far, my advice is do cadwells silver and gold. Until you hit the gear cap (CP160), you are going to struggle with a lot of group stuff and get destroyed in PVP. My advice is get to the cap, while hoarding as much gold and mats as possible. Then look for an area of end game content that appeals to you, search for a basic build/guide and give it a go. Templars can do pretty much anything.

If PVE group stuff or PVP doesnt appeal to you and you are sick of questing, well ESO might have run its course for you.

Don't quit now. A good Templar is like a fine wine. They can do anything with enough practice. First thing is you need to decide what you want to be. DPS, healer, tank or the always popular Templar DPSHealerTank.

You shouldn't worry too much about your build until CP160 though. Just keep leveling and trying new stuff out until then. Once you reach that point start collecting sets by grinding or PVP.

There are hundreds of ways to use a Templar. Just get creative.

Then you'll have all options available to you but your most effective choices will be either healing or damage, both of which you can easily do with a minimum amount of skill and gear changes

i used to be like you, for the first couple months i played my Nord Templar as without any knowledge of builds or gear sets. Then i watched Deltias stamina templar build and loved it, Played that for 4 months. After a while i switched to magica and and found what i really enjoyed doing healing/DPS.

i regret not looking up builds earlier because they give you a direction of where to go as in regardes to skills and gear (you can always change your mind).
one of the things that really made this game enjoyable for me was joining a really active guild.

Good start! Altmer is one of, if not the best magicka races. I have an Altmer templar myself; he heals like a champ. (:

Do you like healing or doing damage, or perhaps both? In a good group and when you've figured your build out, you can definitely let the healing take a backseat to doing damage. But healing and support are viable and important too!

Second the suggestion to join a guild if you're gonna get into PVE or PVP. Getting firsthand advice from people on what does or doesn't work is pretty darned useful.

So I'll ask it again: what do you enjoy doing in the game? Or what do you not enjoy doing? You shouldn't do something you don't enjoy just because a guide tells you it's the One True Way (hint: it's not). Hell, if picking flowers all day is something you really enjoy, then your templar can pick flowers all day.

This one has a fondness of Templars. So much so that this humble Khajiit has 4 of them at max, 2 of them being the fancy elves.
The knife eared ones give you a blank canvas to start from, as they are great at both damage and healing. They can even rock a sorc style build like the Elegant set destro/dw build pretty well.

If you go with the damage option remember: Dark Flare is the beginning, Radiant is the end.

May your road lead you to warm sands, and your Templar to glory.

@Oreyn_Bearclaw is right. At this moment your goal should be to complete the game content while getting skill points and leveling up the CP, ideally up to the max cap.
I would suggest also to start using gear (armor and weapons) with training gear. It will give you extra XP for kills and will speedup the CP leveling. Start working also on your crafting, undaunted and mage guilds skill trees.

If you put work into that char there's no point in deleting him. Altmer is a very good race for any magicka build. If you took the wrong morphs or spread out your attributes you can spend a few thousand gold and fully respec your build. Then it takes a few hours to level the morphs.

For a magicka build you must level:
    - class skills
    - destruction staff
    - restoration staff
    - light armor
    - mages guild

    optional
    - 2W - only take the twin blade and blunt passive to use with 2 swords
    - 1H+S - only take the passives that reduce block cost and give you more mitigation
    - heavy armor - if you want to PvP as a tanky magplar
    - fighters guild for the rearming trap and banish the wicked passives
    - undaunted for the orbs skill and the passives
    - alliance war skills, especially from the support skill line
