Though interestingly, vanity pets are now under the tab "non combat pets" since One Tamriel.

✭✭✭I believe it defaults as Y on PC. You press it plus your mouse attack button and the pet will go after the target you're facing. If the pet dies before the target does, it'll go after said target again on resummon. (I managed to use it to trigger ground traps by tagging an enemy player before they retreated through a choke point.)
Y plus block will recall your pet to your side. In my limited experience, a heeled pet (not a typo, dog command) doesn't attack nearby enemies after it's been called back.
