do you think upgrading gear to yellow is too expensive?

It's inconsistent. Upgrading a Woodworking item is almost too easy. Refining, hirelings, and writs hand out Rosin like candy on Halloween.

Upgrading a Blacksmithing item to Gold, however? Not cool. The person who set the drop rate for Tempering Alloy is not a person I would trust not to kick puppies and punch old ladies.

So you're saying the unemployed should be the only people with gold weapons? I have 2 gold weapons across all my characters and none of my tanks armour have ever been Legendary. It took me months to save them up and when One Tamriel comes along I'll be back to Purple again. I might get 1 Tempering Alloy back from deconstructing those 2 weapons, it's a joke and so is not being competitive in both PvE and PvP.

    Hasn't cost me anything.

Choices have consequences. If you choose not to farm materials then you have to pay for them. If you choose not to pay for them you have to get them yourself.

    Or do without...

If we farm them ourselves then yellow mats have to drop more, since i can go through 400 refines with like one yellow, sometimes its better sometimes its worse but in general its very low dorp rate for the amount of farming one has to do

Do you have all the skill passives maxed? The one to improve refining tempers? Are you even a master crafter?
Writs take 10 minutes. Have hirelings passives maxed? Right there I get 4-6 tempers a week without grinding nodes.
16500g for 1 Tempering Alloy. Put them in the Crown Store already. Don't care if it's P2W, you could say the same about the tri-pots.

OMG NO! Tri-Pots are not P2W as they are crap compared to the one's you can craft in game. As far as 16k+ for one temper, I call shenanigans! You are exaggerating or they were just a troll.

The drop rates are fine... They drop really well to be honest. It's the demand that's too high, everybody wants to yellow out every piece of gear they try on.

Yellow is supposed to be Legendary, not everyday everyone wears everything even stuff they are just testing to see if they like. So as it stands there is sort of a commitment to an item if you make it legendary, or a huge waste of gold if you decide to just drop it.

So IMO the price is too high, but it should be.

Upgrading weapons is not a luxury, armor maybe and even twice born star is a must. So its hard to actually enjoy your build or see its true effectiveness with only purple gear.

That's where priorities should come in to play.

Honestly if yellow is expensive than perhaps you should do theory crafting online first before going in and wasting your in game gold tempers on sets that may or may not work.
Its only expensive if you liberally gold out your armor pieces without any forethought on whether or not that's the best set gear to sell/use and it's worth.

If you only use it when you are absolutely sure this will be worth it than gold tempers are just fine as is. Between crafting writs, decon and treasure maps I do just fine.

Upgrading gear to gold should be meaningful, and therefore, expensive. Also, gold tempers arent that hard to get if you work at it a bit. I have 8 toons in gold gear all from doing writs, most of them have multiples sets. Never bought a gold mat, but have sold a fair few.

The only gold mat that I would perhaps like to see the drop rate buffed on a bit is Wax. One option might be a separate temper for medium and light armor, but that might be overly complicated. Buffing the drop rate would accomplish the same thing.

Also, I think Temp Alloy is particularly high right now because everyone is running heavy in PVP. Whether that lasts or not, we will see. Personally, I have far more allow than any other mat. Most of my builds require one piece of heavy, and one or two weapons at most.

Yes. I can barely keep up. People with ESO+ should get at least 1 golden temper per week for free for each crafting profession. Or they should be sold in crownstore for 500 crowns a piece.

500 crowns for one temper!!!!! ur mad ><

I have a good job. I will buy 100 in a blink of an eye. I will make everyone and their mother golden.

Edit: TEMPERS IN THE CROWNSTORE WOULD BE P2W!!! I have a good job too, but I would leave the game in a heartbeat if that happened..

It's taken me over a year of playing to finally amass enough Rosins, (as well as have a level capped character I like) to make my first Legendary Staff for my Templar. I did kind of appreciate the 200 point bump in Spell Damage, but in all honestly making everything Legendary seems really pointless. Only having Gold weapons seems beneficial since the stats increase for Armor from Epic to Legendary is barely an increase at all. And I care way too much about the wealth I have to waste it on something that won't give me an appropriate return.

    Compared to what?

Since ESO is an MMO so everything is more expensive & takes longer to learn. There is a sense of achievement when something is accomplished from sheer effort and determination to succeed. You can appreciate your own efforts more when you chase after the more expensive items instead of settling for second best with a quick fix.

Yeah sucks. The game have a design where multiple builds and play styles with one character are encouraged. You can see this by the many skills and gear sets in the game.Yet they put a big barrier on this concept by making it hard, long and tedious to have different end game sets with you.I have seen many sets that i just want to have them for fun even if they are not BiS.

So yeah, would be cool if ZOS reduce the grinding for gear mats at least to half so i can bath in different gear sets. Also, while we are at it and this goes with the play diff builds and style. ZOS what the hell, implement an Outfitter style feature to the game for god sake.Thats something that should have been in the game since launch.I feel bad for console gamers.

You didnt read his post. He said writs AND hirelings. Gold mats are relatively rare from hirelings, but not unheard of. I have hirelings on 8 toons and probably get 1-2 of each type a week. The writs are what give you gold mats. I do Enchanting, Blacksmithing, Clothing, and Woodworker Writs on 7 toons a day and get 7-10 gold mats a day. I would guess the drop rate is about 1/3 for a gold mat from turning in a writ, but that might be just a touch high. The other things is that about every two weeks, I spend about 2 hours collecting all my surveys. Those usually give me about 7 or 8 gold mats of each type when I decon.

TLDR: Writs will solve all your gold mat problems.

I have never bought a gold mat and have close to 200 of all of them except wax. I recently burned through all my wax making a new set for my stam sorc, and in two weeks, I am back up to about 35. I need to go count, but I would guess I probably have 125-150 gold pieces that I have upgraded. 9/10 of my toons are in full gold gear, and most have multiple gear sets.
