do you think upgrading gear to yellow is too expensive?

I personally think its too expensive, the excitement of trying a new set is killed by the cost to upgrade the gear to yellow specially weapons which are a must.

I feel the drop rates of yellow mats should be raised the prices for them are just becoming insane.

Before they nerfed the drop rates of epic mats, no. This is just speculation on my part though. I could just be having a string of bad luck refining since tg dropped.

Since then, yes it's too damn expensive if you don't farm your own.

The drop rates are fine... They drop really well to be honest. It's the demand that's too high, everybody wants to yellow out every piece of gear they try on.

Yellow is supposed to be Legendary, not everyday everyone wears everything even stuff they are just testing to see if they like. So as it stands there is sort of a commitment to an item if you make it legendary, or a huge waste of gold if you decide to just drop it.

So IMO the price is too high, but it should be.

Upgrading weapons is not a luxury, armor maybe and even twice born star is a must. So its hard to actually enjoy your build or see its true effectiveness with only purple gear.

the cost is due to a deliberate manipulation of upgrade mat drops rates by ZoS, this is monitored and 'adjusted' constantly same with anything and everything that as a 'drop rate' it is a gold sink and is designed to be such, also it regulates the rate players progress.

The only issue I have at the moment is since the last big patch and the announcement of cash shop RNG loot crates which we have already been clearly told 'could' contain 'consumables' there as definitely been, for me, a noticeable lower drop rate of Alloys and waxes in the game, from both refining mats and doing crafting Writs (which also have had their mat requirements increased)

I have the Deja-vu feeling of so many other games I 'used' to play who started out with these so called 'harmless' 'cosmetic only' RNG cash boxes which eventually ended up containing important required in game upgrade materials, seen this happen in EVERY game which as introduced these boxes/crates and to be honest I don't really see ZoS doing anything different than they did, it is too much of a revenue income to ignore

This is how I see the upgrading system goings, I hope it does not, but I think the RNG crates introduction are only the start.

For testing new sets it's usually enough to just compare epic versions of the different sets. Additionally you could always just go to the pts where you have access to unlimited upgrading mats.

Furthermore I don't think increasing the drop rates of only golden tempers would have much of a positive impact on the economy. Sure, temper prices would drop, but then people would have more money to spend on other stuff, resulting in higher prizes for everything else, especially potions.

Console doesn't have PTS access so this is invalid for half the player base.

I would agree if new styles didn't come out so often. There have been a few threads about being able to change the styles of existing armor. I really think something like that needs to be implemented.

    I think its not balanced.
For example a tank in heavy armor, gets way more benefit from having his armor legendary compared to purple, due to the armor value. Also, same tempers are used for weapons. Due to the weapon and spell dmg the weapon itself gives, its more importent to have a weapon legendary then a belt for example.

To sum up based on this, I think tempering alloy are the most powerful one, followed by dreaugh wax since its being used in both light and merium armor.

I also think a legendary piece should not be common, allthough I will agree on the tempering alloys are abit too value atm.

if you are buying your gold tempers from traders, and upgrading items on a charcater without the appropriate passives then YES it is expensive (on some platforms more so than others)

however if you are gathering the resources for yourself whether that be through harvesting nodes, hirlings or writs (or all 3) and you have the skill points into the appropriate passives then no its not expensive, a time sink yes, but expensive no

Considering the upgrade from purple to gold is minimal (in terms of numbers/ stats) it's barely worth it at the silly prices they go for now. It'd be great if a weapon levelled up the more you used it.

Is it required to make a test set all gold?

Purple is more than enough for most content.

I suspect the new PVP cheese sets are bumping prices up. Viper, Veledrith etc.

The game is already easy as it is and is going towards an even more casual gameplay. As someone stated, it´s called legendary for a reason. And to reason it with "it costs to much" isn´t valid imo. Anyone with decent IQ can with ease get 300k gold a week by selling stuff in guildstores. 300k = 40 dreugh wax (upgrading for a whole set), or about 30 temp alloy, or about 60 rosin. Not that difficult to get to be honest.

It is not even hard to run around and farm and get the materials.

It takes too many materials to begin with just to make cp 160 gear. Then you have to use 8 gold materials just to upgrade 1 piece of gear to gold. I only ever craft purple 150 gear, or gold 160 for weapons.

How is grinding mats or spending gold difficult?? its not difficult its a waste of time. I can't understand people who want everything to take longer "make it more difficult" in their opinion. If you have too much time in you life you can do other things, but don't force people who have other things to leave everything in their lives just to play a game

All you have to do is look at the significant increase you get from yellowing out your weapons to understand. Its meant intentionally to be a hard barrier between experimentation/normal trials/vet dungeons and hard mode dungeons/vet trials.

Of course ZOS manages, manipulates, and adjusts the economy. People say that like its a bad thing. Farm your own mats guys. There's nothing in the game you can't achieve if you put your own elbow grease in.
