Necromancy cult on the forums?

Necroing threads has been a serious issue lately, and coincidentally every single "Necromancer" has 3 stars or less. Is someone out to troll or is this their way of saying "GIVE US NECROMANCY IN ESO!!"?

Regardless, this problem is going to continue if something is not done. Therefore, I propose all threads auto-lock after a certain amount of time has passed without a new comment.

Beats me...

It's somehow based on badges and/or insightfuls/agrees/awesomes and/or post/thread count. But I have no freaking clue about any of the details of how it's actually calculated.

Agree. It is confusing. If you make a thread about something that has been talked about already you are told to use the search function. If you use the search function and reply to an old thread you are told to not necro threads. Apparently new people are never allowed to have input on a topic because the community has already talked about it enough.

As for your point yes too many of a certain topic is annoying, especially if too frequent, but oft times they encourage opening a new thread instead of reviving an old one to ensure that the info is kept up to date.

Yeah, no. Some problems are much older like the loot cap on molag, yet it was closed.
Or stuff like lvl 9 undauted, pvp lag or old bugs reappearing.

You missed the point. Necromancy would be alright, the problem is people with three stars or less, upstart spammers acting as though they belong here, posting messages and necroing our threads with impunity!!!
Necromancy should once again be noble pastime of the privileged with 5 stars or more, but what are mods doing about it? Nothing! They are so blase it is almost criminal.

I said IF the topic is not outdated. The threads that have been getting revived lately? Most of them are outdated at minimum.

Which would be overlookable if not for the frequency and longevity of this issue.

I may only be a three star, but just because I am not at the star cap doesn't mean I will contribute less to the forum. I am well practiced in posting in threads, after all, even though my star level is lower.

And even if I wasn't, how can those with less stars learn how to do well if you keep kicking them from your threads until they have maxed out stars? Everyone has to start somewhere.

I agree it's most likely an innocent mistake by new forum members. It is confusing, especially when every forum has their own rules. I've seen some where if there has ever been a topic on the same subject you have to bump it up instead of creating a new one. (Although these are forums where the material being discussed changes much more slowly.)

One way to solve it is to have specific rules on when to bump an 'old' topic and when to create a new one. For example you must check the first page of the relevant section before posting and if the same topic is on there then you can't start a new one. And at the other extreme if the last post was over 6 months ago it should be considered a dead topic and if you really think it's still relevant you start a new one.

Maybe ZOS should realize that people have enjoyed playing Necromancers in TES games for a long time and they should, oh I don't know, give us necromancy? It isn't like the strongest necromancer to have ever lived is running around and being a critical part of the plot.

And mods having to lock threads people revive that haven't had a new comment in over a year and are outdated anyway is not ridiculous? Seriously any thread that's considered necro'd if posted in NEEDS to auto-lock. It flat-out stops the necromancy.

The only time it really annoys me though is when people make comments regarding old information as if new things have not happened. A good example would be if someone revived a 2 and a half year old complaint thread about being perma-cc'd by Blazing Spear. This would be ridiculous in the current setting, but it was an understood problem back then. Most people nowadays in the game have played after cc-immunity was instigated. On other topics though I actually don't have much of a problem with it if they are relevant to the topic, and the topic itself is relevant. Sometimes it is better to keep ideas together in a cohesive location as opposed to people writing up 30 different threads whinging about this or that complaint power, be it Fear, RD, Dragon Scales, what-have-you. I'd personally prefer a necro'd RD complaint thread than seeing a new thread brought up by the same player once a week, or twice in a day. That is far more obnoxious than reviving a topic that at the least might be considered Necro (I don't think RD is a problem by the way, nor do I think fear is a problem).
