Another effing post about weekly maintenance, weekly meaning every week on the same day and the same time. This is a serious shocker apparently.

Having to do a 6 hour weekly maintenance is the effing shocker!! It means the quality of the work is crap so they have do more maintenance.

I played SWTOR and WoW there is no such thing as weekly maintenance.

That's great that other games don't do maintenance weekly to try and correct coding or hardware issues. However, there's been some sort of weekly maintenance since this game has been released. So why *** and moan about something that is well known knowledge?

I actually agree. Several times maintenance in a week is too much. Already every week is too much.
And please stop saying that they do it to squash bugs.
I don't see any difference after each maintenance. The performance in some parts still sucks no matter your hardware. The game is unoptimized. However, a update 1 month ago or so made it worse.
Also making it in the middle of the day is the worst time possible. What about midnight?
    Talking about EU Server btw.
Hell, the game still has quite a few bugs even after over 2 years since launch so pls shut up and stop saying its to squash bugs.

You think they have a lot of down time now, guess you were not around in the early days of mmo's, when the company had a patch ready or a hot fix did not matter if it was prime time Friday night, you got a message server down in 5 minutes find a safe place to log off.

I welcome server down time, if for nothing better than a sever restart, mmo's always patch always have down time, if that is something you cannot live with then maybe online gaming is not for you, this is a live persistent world, if needs some tlc often.. :)

No amount of QQ is going to change the way things work. But I have to agree their down time is a little long for what we see as the end result, but we have no idea what else they are doing.

Not sure what MMO you mean,i have been in several early MMO's but (almost) none of them did unscheduled closing of server at prime time friday night.

We are years, like over a decade, further now,and this game isnt Beta,
these maintenance times are ridiculous long.

REALLY?! Can we permanently delete all posts that decry Maintenance. Talk about clutter on the boards.

What do you care about what "clutters" the forum,
if such things have a negative impact on ur life and you need to have these posts closed then ur the one that has an issue not the ones legitly complaining about long maintenance times.

Ah, the old what do you care counter argument! I can spin that around pretty quickly - Why do you care that I care? As for your question, I care b/c there is so much complaining and whining about the same old thing, like every week. Yes, we can all express our opinion but the wash, rinse, repeat nature of these boards and people's opinions is ridiculous sometimes. And that is my opinion and am equally entitled to it.

Cheers - have a good one - see you in Tamriel.

    Not anytime soon lol

So let me reiterate. Nearly 6 hours for a 96mb patch that 'addresses' and 'fixes':

Group joining bug (that has been around for so long)

New DLC content (That was rushed out, marketed and sold to players already)

A tiny fix to DSA and porting into it (How long has nDSA been available to play?)

To me, these issues should of already been fixed already. New DLC should be solid before being sold to players, not sold and then have increased downtime to fix them.

There is so much to be addressed here and having such a downtime for such small issues erodes the little confidence i had left that the staff weren't totally incompetent.

This pretty much sums up the life of the game with regards to releasing content, maintenance and fixing bugs.

It seems every other Monday it becomes a 10 hour maintenance practice. No other MMO goes down for this long on a constant bases. Soon someone from Zos will come on the forums and say there was a problem with the servers, and it will take longer for the servers to come online. Then the server will crash sometime during the week and take up another 5 hours. I am just waiting for my sub to run out as this is getting tiring.

This one seems kind of long. over 6 hours already. The servers crashed a couple of times the last couple of weeks. I hope they can find a permanent fix for that.

I don't think a 9 hour weekly maintenance is what the community meant when they said fix the freaking bugs in this game.

I'd rather play the game with its bugs than not play it at all

The problem with these maintenances is the same as high taxes in third world countries. Lots of costs for something that doesn't make a difference. In this case, time costs.

I agree. Too many hours for too few fixes. In GW2 there is no maintenance. What happens is GW2 when a patch is released is the best thing mmorpgs have had. Why don't ESO have the same thing?

I played guild wars too and what was different about them is their Cash shop model where you can literally use real Gold to buy gold ingame. they made $millions$ and cut out the gold sellers by doing this. also their Vanity shop is very extensive and as much as I hate to admit it has maybe 8 times as much content on their version of the crown store.

That said, I think they made a lot of money therefore could in effect have a Redundant Peer architecture where users would not see redundant parts of the architecture go down for maintenance. this is just guessing obviously.

In IT Architecture, we can make almost anything occur with the budget to do so. I have no doubt that's the case here. What was designed initially vs what it would take, cost wise, to make it seamless.

Also a danger here is very commonly a fix is worse than the disease. IE you go to re-architect something and cause more downtime during the fix than ever weould have been encountered by normal maintenance windows. I've seen that occur over and over.

Worst example. We had a maintenance window on a Sat evening for new Cisco Core Routers put in by contracted "IBM", who then contracted the job out to a 3rd party, and of course it went sideways and we experienced a 24 hour datacenter down condition... All ecommerce websites / supply chain everything....

We used to joke when my team cleaned up the mess saying, "Hackers couldn't do as much damage as our own teams had done lol".

I'll stop here instead of writing another book.

People have a right to complain when utter incompetence is involved in EVERY maintenance.

6-8 hours(mostly 8) per week and sometimes twice a week and in EU midday hours? Do the math for EU ESO+ subers!
Maintenance its sure a good thing, but 8 hours weekly in 2.5 years old game? Or it's still BETA?

For Akatosh's sake people. They have to do maintenance. Just like you have to defrag your computer to keep it running smooth. They have to clear caches, LUA, etc. If they only did maintenance once month, the game would be laggy and glitchy as hell. I have seen it, the times they went 3--4 weeks without maintenance. And all large MMO's have to do it. WoW was once a week and be down 8-20 hours!
Be thankful they don't have to do it twice a week anymore like they did at launch. Also, maintenance is not the same thing as "fixes", even though this is the time they use to insert fixes, but not always. So stop thinking that every maintenance is going to fix everything!
Be happy they do them regularly. If you need your ESO fix, go play PTS for 3-6 hours..

No they don't, man. There are many MMO's out there that don't do weekly maintenance. They might have a maintenance once every few months.

I don't know what MMOs you are referring to, but DCUO does maintenance EVERY morning for about 30-45 minutes. Plus, ESO doesn't have patch maintenance EVERY week, but typically after a major game update, they have to put fixes in and this is a PATCH maintenance for PC. I agree there have been a lot more frequent issues lately, and perhaps this is because they keep feeding bits and bits of One Tamriel behind the scenes and I think it's causing some unexpected issues.

@Blackleopardex Actually, they used to do PC-NA maintenance at 7AM EST, not 'at night' as you said, but now they moved it back so they are actually doing PC-NA maintenance starting around 3AM EST... so for most of us in the U.S. this works out a lot better than previous times.

My bad but actually it does not matter, they should still do it at night for both the EU and NA servers. We used to have it at 3 am in the morning. To have it at the "same" time for two entirely different time zones is just mind blowing to me.
