Why are people rude to healers?

You guys should try healing a PVP group for a challenge. It's a different animal but most of the same principles apply. You definetly need to be more self sufficient in Cyrodiil but if you've ever thought "wow, my 8 man group is unbeatable" as you destroy dozens in front of you, and then out of no where you all wipe within 10 seconds, well someone just killed the healer that you probably didn't even know you had.

Also, despite having healing cut in half I've head Breath of Life crit above 12k in Cyrodiil with a DPS set up. Healing in Cyrodiil is still very much a thing.

People who have never played as a group healer are more likely to be ignorant, demanding, and loud towards the group healer.

To make a football comparison, healers are like the offensive line - not the flashiest or most noticed position out there, but they allow the other players to look good if they do their job right.

Play with enough bad healers, and you will learn to be easy as a milk drinker & respectful toward the good ones.

Is it two sides of this story?
Playing with healers who try to do dps and forget to heal, are quite common.
Also, healing is easy, supporting with buffs require more work. If you dont have any buffs and only heal, then I understand peoples frustration if it goes 5 sec without any healing recieved.

What cooldowns you mean btw? Ultimate?

Few weeks ago 3 of us recruited a pug for our 4th for vet Fungal Grotto pledge. His dps was really really good, but as a group player he was horrible. We'd start fighting one set of mobs and I'd notice his health dropping (I was tank), then he'd die. And we couldn't find it because he was in the next room fighting the boss already. He also liked to aggro before I could pull the mobs so he'd die pretty quickly.

Then at the end he ran off to the final boss leaving the tank and healer behind to fight all the mobs on the way to the final boss. So it took us probably 5 mins to get back. Then he decided to stand in the black ring on the final boss and complain the healer (my wife) wasn't healing enough.

    No, no, NO, NONONONONO!!!!!!!

It's not any of that. Group and look at your screen. There is one bar showing with respect to the other players. It's not magicka. It's not stamina. It's not DPS. It's not a stand-in-stupid or damage taken meter. It's not a build rating. It's not a mob aggro indicator.

THAT'S RIGHT!!! IT'S HEALTH. JUST HEALTH! AND HEALTH IS AN OK SURROGATE FOR HPS AND HEAL SUSTAIN!!!!!

So there is an ever present meter providing evidence to blame only one archetype. Sure, you could fraps that bad boy standing in one-shot stupid, but by the time you get it posted and send links to the webpage, the group has kicked you! Ten minutes later they will kick another healer, and break up in disgust because "no good healers are on."

But you say wait, there is a DPS check and/or enrage timers. Sure, but groups always have more dps than healers. Which DPS is to blame? Can't tell? BLAME THE HEALER!!! Because we have the zero health evidence! Plus, there is that narcissistic nature of most DPS to deal with. If they can admit a dps could be at fault, then maybe they can be at fault... and... THAT CAN'T BE TRUE!!!!

So is my solution to show stam and mag? How about any of those other indicators I mentioned? NO. Just remove the health bar altogether. Nothing will get the point across more effectively.

Even without a health bar, if people die they would still blame the healer. Want to judge dps ability? Add dps meters. However for some reason the community is largely against this.

Yeah, I had to run and then I didn't, so I can finish. What I meant was this. If a boss has an enrage timer, you don't really know if the DPS failed until the end except with respect to the mob's health, but to the extent my TOP DPS NA player picks his nose through half the fight and one hands, he can usually make up for it in the other half. There is no similar distributive mechanic for healing. Imagine if there was. A big circle that fills up like a mob's health drops. No individual health bars but instead you have to fill that sucker up before the timer runs out.

That's the root of the problem. Every fight a healer is filling that circle up for multiple players at a split second rate. Another option would be to make fights depend on periodic bursts spaced apart the same way healing stress is and if the DPS fails the burst they die.

I hear you 100% OP. I've gotten lots of cr@p from DPS blaming me they died. First thing I do is see if what they are saying has any merit. Sometimes just because someone is a jerk doesn't mean they are wrong.

If it does have merit i'll try to adjust to do better, (i've actually improved my healing quite a bit from a few meanies). If it doesn't have merit though, just forget about it and heal on. What they are saying is flat out stupid and don't accept any of it. If you have to continue on in the dungeon, try seeing it as a challenge that if I can heal this squishy bad-mannered barbarian I can heal anyone!

One thing i've clearly noticed is it's much harder to heal bad players, you'll cover up mistakes, then they don't even know you did that for them and they think they are "super cool awesome", then when you aren't there to catch them the next time they make the mistake they blame you... lol.

It's very true that the better the DPS is the easier it is to heal. Just today I finished Vet City of Ash with just one death at the last boss (*thank you thank you*) but the group was good. Then i'll go into a normal dungeon and some fool's health bar goes up and down so fast it makes me dizzy and it's actually quite a challenge to keep those people alive! One time I was running with 3 bad lower level players and I basically carried the whole group through the dungeon, then at the end they were so appreciative of that but I never complained once that one of them offered me 1k gold lol...

Don't sweat it though, even though I recently put a similar rant in a different thread, there are good friendly people out there. I've been called "our savior" from some groups and lots of people appreciate what the healer brings to the table,.. only the narrow minded "it's all me me me" usually blame anyway....

Must be i'm one of those people who blame everyone else, but i've tried all the roles so in a group i expect a healer/tank/dps to have a right combination of skills to fit his/her role, so everyone else can do his primary job and do not waste his time for shielding/healing, especially players with high cp. And I do know what am i asking for.

I used to be a tank running trials without single spear or repentance/dd running without proper heals and support or aggro/useless heal that tries to dps as much as possible while someone in his group dies/and a proper heal that uses all that needed stuff.

It just depends, if its a trial or hard dungeon healer's primary job is healing and support, he can dps if everything is fine, but he must be ready to heal/support whenever it is needed. Almost same goes to tanks.

As a dd usually i slot something "extra" if its a pug group, if its guildmates i don't bother.

Just an example: today done a pugrun in nMoL, we had like 8 stam dds in a group --> zero repentance or shards from 2 templar heals, i really dunno what they were doing or thinking about. There was a single magicka sorc dd and he had everything --> orbs, drain, even siphon spirit lol, he was a single magicka character except healers why he had that amount of attention i really don't know. I used to be dd at the beginning, switched to tanking at the last boss. Still no spears, and while i'm turning boss with his back to the group literally "smart" dds are attacking him from the front. He casts his ability (like vicp boss) and dd dies, while dead he spams "tank it" in a group chat, when a healer ress him he is allready smart and stays with the group, but here comes another dd with same "plan" to hit the boss in his face lol. Had like 4 of them that run.

P.S.: Even if someone in your party dies, no matter whos fault, dd should ressurect that person. And people just take your time to learn your class/role because after a hard day of work another person should not suffer from your mistakes

The best part is someone probably said this to you as they were spamming a one button DPS move.

To anyone who thinks that a "rotation" shows skill but then loses to someone smashing one button, you're not really that skilled. Besides, isn't skill really just a test to see who can complete an objective the most efficiently? If I can beat you with 1 button, that's your problem, not mine.

Trying to answer constructively. First, you should not be healing 24/7. Most people wildly over heal. At least half of what you do should be about group utility. I think the reason that people can seem to be rude with healers is that they are the role that needs to be the most flexible. A DPS is going to have a rotation that optimizes their damage, a Tank is going to have a build that keeps them alive and allows them to control the battle field. A healer MUST adapt to their group, and some of them arent so good at it.

DPS and Tanks all have different needs, it is a healers job to communicate with them and do their best to help. For example, a stam DPS will need repentance shards or a Master Resto staff. A magic DPS is going to want ele drain or orbs. All DPS except NBs are going to want combat prayer. EVERYONE wants aggressive warhorn. I am of course speaking about groups trying to push DPS and be reasonably competitive.

I often run a magic DK or sorc in group content. On my sorc especially, I run kena. It's great damage, but it takes a healer running Elemental drain or I am going to run out of resources and die. That requires a destruction staff. I have lost track of the number of times I have asked a healer for ele drain to be told, they didnt want to drop their swords to slot a staff. Well, they arent doing their job and should be told so accordingly. Of course I always end up dropping Kena or switching toons and adapting, but that is a bad policy. Healers need to be more adaptable than any other role, and many of them refuse to be. And yes, I heal as well. The first question I ask of any group is are the DPS magic or stam, and is there anything specific I need to run.

Edit: For the record, I am not saying that being rude to a healer is ever acceptable. I am simply trying to shed some light on the main source of conflict that can arise.

    ;)

I will save them a few times from themselves, but when I do, I let them know that I'm only going to do it one more time. Use that 1 more time wisely.

Fun to watch them die. Then they get a learning experience: They can watch from the ground as the other players have fun and avoid the *** that got them killed. Again.

The reasoning is that healers don't need to heal constantly in most dungeons. They have skills to help dps sustain resources, so in an organized group dps can spec even more into damage with healers helping sustain. This leads to higher group dps and faster, easier clears.

Helping the DPS sustain their resources is about half of a healers job. If you don't agree, I am glad you stopped healing.

Again, I am speaking from a competitive group content perspective. In that situation, if you dont help with resources, you are very bad at your job. In that scenario, people are trying to maximize their DPS. No DPS is able to do this and sustain their resources without a little help. There is a reason we have skills to help with this. You think anyone is clearling VMOL or VSO without shards and ele drain? Not a chance.

Anyone being outright rude to healers out of some snarky pretentiousness is someone I would hate to even be in chat with. Healers clearly help the group and can contribute to the dps...plus with kags, they can rez in an otherwise wipe situation.

I like running trials with healers personally haha.

Besides swap a few skills on a magplar, and it's quite a good dps i hear...

Message me if you want to do trials/dungeons, or need a trading guild! Flawless conqueror magsorc with a bad sense of armor fashion.
