They haven't sold anything cosmetic this expensive before, and they are probably trying to find the point at which the number of buyers drops below the desired threshold. Since supply is infinite (but not availablity) they need to have at least 1.5 times the number of people buy this compared to a mount that costs 2.5k crowns. (That was fake guessing math, no one freak out, you get the point).
That said, 4k is hilariously expensive.
Zos are in full on fantasy land when it comes to their pricing, 4k crowns lol well there'll be plebs that pay that much so well see more of the same in the future. There is 0 point in complaining about it they simply do not care.0 -

This is robbery, extortion, or flat out price gouging, doesn't matter as I will not be spending that much for this, or any other mount.....ever. If crowns were at a 75% discount, then I would consider it, but they are not, so I won't.1

Wait, I'm gonna expand on this. To those that got the mount, congrats, you do you. Everyone's money situation is different and it's nice to have it to spend on something you enjoy.

Yes you should return it and pick up a degree in charitable organization's (totaly a sarcastic comment). This mount is pure fluff and in no way does someone have an obligation to purchase it. If it's such a bad business decision to do these sorts of things, why did Blizzard make billions doing it?

At $40US you receive 5,500 Crowns last I checked. So the most this mount costs is $29.00US. If you have crowns from subscription or bought at 50% off sale, then much much lower.

That's fair enough, I hope you enjoy your mount. It does look nice. Everyone is completely free to spend their money however like. It needs to be remembered that not all game players are based in 'wealthy' countries. While $40 may not be a massive amount the UK or the US, in relative terms it is a lot of money for some people.
