Role Player's suggestions

First of all I'd like to thank the developers @ZOS_GinaBruno for listening in and reading suggestions on the forums, taking into account what their player base loves and despises.
I've been playing since Beta and though it came off to a rocky launch it has most certainly blossomed into a great game!
I thought I'd relay some suggestions that I have picked up on and heard a lot from the RP community on the EU server.
And here's a summary of some of the stuff we had to say from a Role Player's perspective:


|Shield Block Animation|
The shield added to the block animation needs to go, or have a toggle to turn off the visual of it.
Or even only have it appear in PVP
It looks horrible and I know.. I know we're dirty RPer, but as RPers we really dislike it. It breaks immersion.

|Trespassing|
This irks a lot of RPers trust me.
My suggestion would be to, once the story related to the area is completed, remove it.
It locks potential areas off for RP and limits the space we can use for the community.
Take Hew's Bane, there's a gigantic section of the city locked off from us because if we get seen we keep getting bounties.
Change this so that we may have more space to do our thing. I'd suggest making the area a different phase once the quest is completed,
much like it was done in the past. That way players can still enjoy the thrill of not getting caught whilst doing their quest and we can enjoy
tons of open space for RP.

|Personalities|
Love what you're doing here, though I've heard complaints that the dagger used is not your own and only the Blade of Woe.
Perhaps you could make it so that the animations can be done with any dagger you have equipped?
And if you don't have a dagger equipped or simply the wrong kind of weapon equipped make it default back to the Blade of Woe.
Also we'd love to see more animation variations to the Personality as well. Like a different /sit and /sitchair, that would be awesome!
(Could use Quen's sit emote for example)
Though keep it coming! It's a very creative and interesting way of giving RPers more emotes to use in their RP!

|Costumes|
There's tons of new costumes, which we love! We love it to death! Though we'd also love to see more in game lootable garb,
like was added in the beginning of the game. The statless gear is amazing and dyeable which makes it amazing to customize your
character for RP to suit your character's personality. More peasant looking gear suited to the new areas being released would also be cool.
And if that is impossible, we'd love to have a way to dye our costumes bought off the Crown Store.
As for the crown store costumes, there seems to be a clipping issue with one costume in particular it's called 'Imperial City Temple Tunic' I'll include an image.
But the flap on the armour seems to be clipping through the base tunic underneath, we'd love to see that fixed before release of the costume.

It clips worse on a male body as well, did my best to capture what I meant, but yes if it could be fixed before release it would be swell.

|NPCs Interrupting Animations|
Many times there has been cursing and yelling as an NPC or guard decides to waltz right through your perfectly placed emotes.
There you are, all badass leaning against a wall and BAM! Guard or NPC decides that they want to wreck your animation.
Our suggestion would be to turn off collision out of combat, as there are in some places just too many wandering guards and NPCs.
We'd love to not have to spill innocent blood over such trivial matters and animation interrupts but after one too many interrupts,
vengeance must be had. But seriously, it would be great if you'd look into it so that NPCs don't break animations.

I'll report back with more input as soon as possible, but thank you again for everything! And we're eagerly awaiting Housing and the Barbershop! :)

    Agree with OP's points completely. It's also nice to see RP'ers speak up about what they like/dislike for a change!

    - I would much prefer to see the Blade of Woe on the Assassin personality use the players own dagger/weapon or be held in some way so it doesn't clip into sheathed weapons.

    - To add to block breaking immersion, I can understand why it is being added but it should be a toggle for sure. (Try to picture people role playing as soldiers holding up their shields, they will now have this animation forced upon them which is immersion breaking).

    - Clipping issues with shoulders are looking a lot better, thanks for fixing this. Hopefully more are fixed as per OP's example.

    - Side/Crotch flaps, I really dislike these...I hope an option to toggle these off can implemented. In the manner it was done for mount upgrades. Assassins League armor is a perfect example of how armor should be done.

    - Trespassing/RP Instancing, I would like to see ZoS implement neutral instancing once a quest is completed. This would open up many more areas for role players.

    - NPC Collision, currently NPC's break your emotes if they as so much as breathe on your character. If this could be changed it would be great.

    I would love it if we could sit on the in-game chairs. It'd be really nice.

    I'd also love different sit emotes; like, we only get one uptight and odd sit?

    I agree. I don't personally roleplay (other than having internal motivations for different characters in my head in terms of what choices they are likely to make in quests, whether they will kill or steal or give money to beggars etc.) but I DO like seeing roleplayers around Tamriel, it makes places seem very alive and dynamic when you go to an area and there are people roleplaying there. I am all in favour of anything Zenimax can do to improve life for roleplayers and encourage roleplaying in the game.

    The trespassing and different phases suggestion is really good. For example the order headquarters are just too good to restrict!

    Indeed! Lovely to see more people get involved with this! And I am happy to see such a positive response :)
    I think a lot of RPers are scared to be too vocal on the forums as on many other games they just get ridiculed for their alternative way or playing the game. That's what I like about Elder Scrolls Online, seems most people like RPers.
    Even people trolling, when told to leave will actually just pack it up and leave.

    I'm same as Epona in that I don't fully RP, but I do bear in mind characters decision etc and I agreed it's ace to see the RP community about, it adds so much to the game.

    I concur with OP that things done it fix PvP battles could be turned off in PvE, dame with alot of the DB changes even

    I am so glad that rapid maneuver was removed from "affects everyone in the near vicinity" with TG, it used to drive me round the bend suddenly find myself sprinting around town just because someone else was in a hurry. Glad that's gone.

    As a roleplayer, these all sound like great suggestions!

    The shield block annoys me immensely, as someone who does military roleplay, it completely ruins shield walls and combat RP when there's a huge floating magical shield.

    In regards to trespassing, areas such as the Order of the Hour Enclave etc, should be made neutral, non trespass areas where the NPC's no longer attack you due to the way the story line ended. They're also excellent areas to RP in which sadly we can;t utilize currently!

    Yes! It looks terrible! And it would be a terrible shame if loads of areas remained locked off in the same manner as in Hew's Bane, killed a lot of peoples will to RP there!

    This is my favourite thread on the forum! I care about this even more than I care about the nerfs to Hardened Ward, and I play a Sorc! @ZOS_GinaBruno , can we please have an official feedback thread on the DLC's impact on roleplayers, just like the other official feedback threads? Or at least some sign that the developers are reading this and are aware of our feedback?

    I entirely agree with everything that was said above, and especially with the blocking animation. Make it a toggle at least, I don't really want to see it not only when I roleplay, but not even when I PvE.

    Another issue that has been raised more than once is nameplates (which are terribly immersion-breaking, but at least they can be toggled off) and the new display which shows so much information like the account name (which is also a bit too cluttered and immersion-breaking).

    I still rate as one of my best moments in game -I was questing around a ruin, just following the quest, killing stuff, harvesting the occasional node, when a group of players turned up all dressed in identical robes and started performing some sort of ritual - it was far more atmospheric and eerie than anything in the base game for me at this point (given that I have multiple characters and thus have seen every location and done all the quests multiple times). I want more of that.

    (EDIT: I realise that may come across a bit like "I want roleplayers to entertain me", but I don't mean it like that at all, just that the presence of roleplayers can turn what would otherwise be a static world where you know exactly what is going to happen, into a more interesting and varied and "alive" experience - if that makes sense).

    I tend to agree with the account thing, but that's nothing a quick add-on can't solve :) But they really need to not make that block animation a thing, or at least toggleable ! :)

    Haha! Well no one generally minds having curious onlookers! :) Running into spontaneous RP is quite amazing!
    And most of the events being held are quite fun to part take in. I agree with the statement that it makes the world feel alive.

    @Epona222 , one of the things I enjoy most as a roleplayer is when non-RPers sometimes just do a /sitchair emote a few metres away from our scene and simply sit there to watch us quietly. We love having an audience! So don't worry, we are happy to entertain you! (and deep down we hope that at some point you might even join us...!)

    The new shield blocking animation is also actually more than roleplaying. It can get confusing as it looks like a sort of magical shield instead of actually watching the normal animations which clearly show other people, be it NPCs or players bringing their actual shield or weapon up

    This one thinks the white toga is a crown store costume. Imperial something or other it was called.

    Khajiit would wear it if it was red and green. As it is Santie thinks she may send out the orc boy with it on.

    My own game experience will be heavily ruined by new patch, so I can't share your joy and gratitude to developers, but I 100% support your suggestions, especially for removal of block visual and disallowing NPCs to interrupt our emotes.

    Indeed! The emote interrupt has been around for a long time, and it would be cool to see something adjusted so that it can be
    changed or removed entirely. Also I cannot stress how much that Block animation needs to be changed or removed entirely.

    I might be a roleplayer, but I heartily disagree with negating the value of trespassing after the quest is over. Completing the quests do not provide a reason why the character would be permitted to be on the private grounds, at least not at the moment. It takes more of a toll to connection to the game world when players can suddenly stop having to pay attention to the rules of a location only after a non-related quest is completed.

    Consider this however: within most areas deemed for trespassing, there are other people doing work. Perhaps they have a job to transport goods to the docks, or a contract under the local leader. Perhaps they carry their permits to roam these grounds on their person, fit for the taking from a lively thief looking to find another way to blend in. Or rather maybe more legitimate businessmen and women could obtain a permit from the employer/owner through the bank in some form of a quest?

    Who knows? Adding in more objectives to the game to solve in game problems might do wonders.

    Who knows? Adding in more objectives to the game to solve in game problems might do wonders.

    This suggestion was made to make more space available for RPers to access with office space, events space and perhaps until the player housing comes along even let people find a home in the massive areas that are locked off :)
    What you need to understand with RP is that a lot of RP that happens in areas and locked off areas in the game are in fact somewhere else 'In characterly' ^^ Seeing as we have no access to player housing and we don't know to how great variety and usefulness player housing will be. It would be amazing to see some areas being unlocked and made empty so that the RP
    community can stretch their RP out and have more space. I agree with not removing the penalty for breaking and entering,
    but understand I am not asking to remove that aspect, I just don't like the gold bounty addition to it as it hinders RP from happening for events and such in those areas, which is such a shame!
