What was wrong with it that it needed to be changed?
ZOS_GinaBruno how about if we have the ability to toggle on or off if we want that displayed to others?
Your account name has never been a secret. True, it has never been slapped on the UI (for PC/Mac) but it is simple to get.
As for why, I think they are making console and PC/Mac the same. We get name only on PC/Mac, they get account only on console. Now, everyone gets both.
I would like it if they would remove it from the PC/Mac, but it is easy to mod out.

It shows up under their health bar at the top of the screen as part of the default UI under their character name. It drives me nuts that I can't turn that part of it off and always have to stare at a person's @name in the vanilla UI with nameplates disabled.
It can make it a bit more social, though, being able to see "who" it is.
Which is fine for guildmates or Alliance War. In the quest zones I value the ability to blend in with the NPCs if I want.
Not any easier. If I have to run up to each player and write the info down it's much more work than just using /ignore. The /ignore feature is much more efficient for getting @ -names, and that option's been out there since launch if people wanted to "steal" the info. Just say anything in /zone, or /yell, or /say, I click and ignore and there it is. I bet a bot could auto-farm @-names that way, putting people ignore all day. This isn't a major security breach.I don't understand why they would want to do this...makes it *that* much easier for someone to attempt to steal people's accounts now...was bad enough when it was just 500 people seeing your account name...now the whole server can?

Even now on live you can see someone's level and alliance rank, you don't blend in a lot less now unless you use the nameplates, which hover and are seen from far away. The @-name is a little extra info in the part of what you can already see about other players, but not much more.
And there is a difference between adding the @ -name to the existing mouse-over info and turning on nameplates. The nameplate is the big neon sign. That was my point. Currently on the PTS you can turn off whether *you* see nameplates, the big neon signs, but others can still turn them on and give you one from their point of view. That's separate from adding the @ - names in mouseovers.driosketch wrote: »tinythinker wrote: »driosketch wrote: »tinythinker wrote: »I found it really unnerving to be able to see a player's @name. One, if there is so much as a rat between you and the other player at a distance, it can be difficult to even just get a character name on live with a causal target, (pc). Two, I've been fishing in disguise among enemy NPCs and have had others already take a swing at me before realizing I'm just another player. That's part of what I mean by blending in, and it's one of my guilty joys in game. The other part is being able to quest solo without a neon sign over my head.

If you want others to not be able to see a nameplate over your head when they turn that feature on, you will want to be clear on what you are asking for in your feedback. And it seems like they are going to go for letting you control whether you see neon signs, not whether other players can.

The actual nameplates start toggled off by default on the PTS, so you will only see the usual mouseover info (with @ -names added in) otherwise.IrishGirlGamer wrote: »paleobonesb14_ESO wrote: »I don't like it either and I hope they change it to just our character's name and title like before.
I don't really mind if everyone knows my game name or character name. What's more annoying to me is entering a city like Daggerfall or Riften and seeing dozens of magical floating name tags over the heads of other players.
I really hope I can toggle it off.

This. This sudden panic is pointless, please inform yourself instead of spreading false propaganda. Gamepad mode always uses account names and until that is not fixed, this discussion serves no purpose.

@IrishGirlGamer and others who worry about this:IrishGirlGamer wrote: »
Okay, now I am a little concerned. Seriously, this spring the IT department at my University sponsored an Internet safety program. As a demonstration, they downloaded a free password hacker and hacked into one of the University e-mail accounts (a volunteer offered their account and changed the password before - and after - the presentation) and did it in like 20 minutes.
One of their points was: yes, keep your passwords secret, but keep your usernames (in this case, student id #s) secret, too. Please tell me we have the option to hide the appearance of our login username or use a different account name once we're in the game.

I would really love a private mode, so you didnt show your @ name to everyone
I have never liked that half of your login credentials are so easy to attain, it makes me nervous about security in my account even when i have a bunch of random number symbols and letters as my password XD .

Your link is talking about how account names where never secure. You quoted people saying they don't like that and wish it was more secure. This discussion is officially running in circles.

Thanks.
I am quoting people who think that *this* change, where close-range/mouse-over/tab info now gives an @ -name, is something new
this right here is past tense.I have never liked
