We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

You can choose which one shows up if people are opting into nameplates, but if I get close to you the same place where I could see your character name before has the @ - whoever underneath.

And apparently NPCs who have dialogue have their names show up in green...

May have a different UI for consoles anyway, but on PC I can see both names/IDs when you are somewhat close. The nameplate is bigger and hovers over your head and can be seen from far away. That one (nameplate) you can choose which to display (character name *or* @ - name).

Being honest. I took a lot of time to name my characters but after seeing it on PTS...Ill def keep this turned off.
Just my person pref but I like that others can see my chars real name.

So the big miss tho was....ZOS didn't remark if the player name can be chosen in the group and guild interfaces. Or I missed that in settings and PTS patch notes.

@names have always been visible if you enable the beta controller mode under game settings. At least now those of us using a controller can see normal names as well.

I found it really unnerving to be able to see a player's @name. For me, it is always visible wither I have nameplates enabled or not. It shows up under their health bar at the top of the screen as part of the default UI under their character name. It drives me nuts that I can't turn that part of it off and always have to stare at a person's @name in the vanilla UI with nameplates disabled.

It can make it a bit more social, though, being able to see "who" it is.

I don't want my account name visible to anyone.

What was wrong with it that it needed to be changed?

@ZOS_GinaBruno how about if we have the ability to toggle on or off if we want that displayed to others?

True, but it still bugs me. I'd love it if it were a toggle setting in nameplates or interface. It does clutter things up a bit. Makes the point of having character names feel more moot when the UI draws your eyes to the player's UserID first (YMMV) instead of character name and rank.

    On PC.

It's on the PTS right now.

I don't have nameplates on and I can see anyone's @name, their character name, their title and their CP if I target them in the UI at the top of my screen.

    I don't like this change. Leave @names guild/friend only.

Like I said, I find it kind of fun to know who I am running into, and sometimes recognizing names from the forums. Seems more social that way. But opinions will vary.

Your account name has never been a secret. True, it has never been slapped on the UI (for PC/Mac) but it is simple to get.

As for why, I think they are making console and PC/Mac the same. We get name only on PC/Mac, they get account only on console. Now, everyone gets both.

I would like it if they would remove it from the PC/Mac, but it is easy to mod out.

It is kinda cluttered. I wish I could hide the @name.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

Try it out, in pvp you can "see"/ target PCs in stealth/invis if you have right add-on. it's not new, was hoping it would be a fix.
