I like that they acknowledged that voice chat will still be the primary way to communicate. I don't care if you have a keyboard. If you join my group without a mic you are getting dropped.

I am afraid that this will split how people communicate and lead to even less of a feeling of community but only time will tell.

@LBC_Demon Are you saying you cannot read while playing the game? I am not sure why that would be my or anyones fault but yours. Most of us can type quite fast around 120-160 GWAM The fastest recorded ever was 297. That being said. The time it takes to type a few words can be around a second or so. The point is. They can hear you speak and talk via keyboard and most of the time they are better players because they have learned to type and still not stand in circles and what not.

I am not sure why you think you need to kick deaf, mute, someone with a stoma or anyone who just doesnt want to from your groups because you deem it so. Ive been playing MMOs for about 18 years now here and every MMO i can think of off the top of my head. In that time ive personally met about 20-30 people with such reasons that they cannot use a mic and honestly were some of the better raiders ive met. You really only need 1 person on the mic anyways to call out things etc and having multi people talking at once does not work in such situations. That being said with your ego so high up there why don't you just call everything out for others since only 1 person needs to be talking anyways.

Also people like YOU are the reason there is less community. Because you wont let people be involved because of your rules.

Saying I would drop someone without a mic is harsh but if people aren't even in the mic chat listening I would drop them.

I can't honestly say how reading and talking would work out. That's why I said time will tell.

What I liked was that it forces people to get on mic. Not many people use mics any more these days and it is ruining a lot of games I would have had fun with.

People have the option to play call of duty and be in party chat with a few of their friends and that leaves me alone in the game talking to myself. Party chat gave us another option of where to communicate and it turned out to just separate people.

Back in the day on Socom every single person used a mic. Now everyone is splintered off.

So this game finally came around and forced you to use a mic and it's great. People talk. They even have it so if you are in a party on PS4 and you boot up the game it switches you out of party chat into game chat.

So I thank ZoS for trying to get everyone together on a unified communications system.

You clearly have not played any other hardcore mmo's otherwise you wouldn't be stating this.. Obviously come form CoD or Destiny...

Voice chat is good (albeit hardly anyone uses it anymore only the small ratio of hardcore raiders, Hence why they are added text chat..) ... but only to a point. Text chat is useful for everyone throughout all game-play.

Voice chat is only useful really for raiding and hardcore people.. Stop being so selfish to the people that want to play a normal mmorpg...

Everyone who constantly slates text chat, should be flagged in my opinion and when it goes live it is permanently disabled.
So everyone can trade and group, co-ordinate in cyrodyl ALOT better and those locked out will live a lonely solitary existence like they want us who cant use mic's.

Nope, try again. I haven't played Destiny although I want to. The last time I was excited for CoD was after CoD 2 when I started working at Activision and we were making CoD 4.

I have been playing MMO's for over 14 years. Starting with Everquest. I have played several on console and I have used a keyboard many times on console.

I like it much more being able to talk to people and not having to type. I never thought typing was a problem but I am happy that it has evolved.

I don't know what you mean when you say hardly anyone uses it anymore. I hear all kinds of people talking in Mournhold and when I ask somebody something it's not long before they switch on their mic most of the time.

No I'm sorry I do not agree with you.. If you have played since EQ then you should be with us. Now I'm not saying voice doesn't have its place but not as a sole method of communication, Its great in raids and some pvp circumstances..

All I hear is small kids swearing when i turn it on. Yesterday I was minding my own business crafting and some little 12 year old with a squeaky voice runs past calling everyone a C**T over and over really loud. My kids are in the living room so I had to turn that off asap, as I FORGOT to leave voice channel....

Yeah voice is so awesome!... not.

In the last day alone six people whom have not used my guild's PSN chatroom for over two months have posted to it saying they are going to start playing actively again once the textchat is added to the game.

Six out of 57 people in the channel...that is a 10% return rate in just one little guild.

Imagine how many will come back, or how many new players will stay longer, when you consider the game as a whole.

    Agreed.

I'm sticking around now and so is my brother and other friend.

We've Also got 3 friends from PC ready to come to X1 now. Text comms and floating text being the confidence boost needed to join us.

I may now be able to communicate properly and regularly (voice being available not all the time in my circumstances).

I hope we hear more on it tonight on ESO Live. Really looking forward to them talking about it, amongst other things of course!

Mwahahaha! Mwahahahaha!! I'm sorry, this is momentous as hell. There were some evil know it all b's back in the day that would fight against me saying that it would never happen and that no from Devs means no. Mwahahahaha! Four months on and I win you moronic infidel!

Congrats to everyone that fought for this feature. I feel like we've won an international marathon and I couldn't be happier, makes me glad to be back after my little spat where I threw the game disc in the bin, then ironically bought the game again on special for $28 months later because I missed elder scrolls so much, although the grind for crafters now is borderline illegal, what were you guys thinking?!!!! How yeah, let's have people farm nodes and mobs for hundreds of hours to make one armour set, that's how you want your game played - in circles? You people can't be gamers because it's outrageous beyond belief. Damn you Zenimax online. But also thank you.

The Das Keyboard permanently connected to my PS4 rejoices!

I'd like to thank everyone who put up the good fight here, and everyone who voted with their wallet. It is nice to finally be able to return to the game I enjoyed so much.

Now the daunting task of figuring out what changed since I left.

Funny thing is, just resubbed to FFXIV:ARR because I was craving some MMO; now I can drop that game again and come back home!

Thank you all and thank you ZOS! No thank you to New Black Smurf though. :) (Just playing NBS, no hard feelings, you were just standing up for your preferensces, and I can respect that. So please take that comment as good natured ribbing).

Are u serious voice chat is far superior to text, especially in combat. I can focus on fighting and less on reading and instead of taking my hands of controls to type I can just use my mouth. Plus real voices make for a more realistic experience. It's quite difficult to express true emotion via text. Beside eso said even though text chat will be implemented the primary source of communication for consoles will remain voice chat.

Text chat is for forming the group, advertising guilds or trading...to most people that's obvious

I must ask if plates of these have been served to those who said it would not be added ?

Now I'll actually use my ESO CE I bought for the PS4 in addition to my PC version.

Oh how I would love to have seen the looks on the faces of the two or three anti-text champions when they heard the news.

Decided to start playing again this week after 6 month hiatus. Had a lot fun for a couple evenings. Then read about upcoming massive templar healing nerf so I got sad and angry, ready to quit playing again.

Now I read text chat is coming to PS4 and am super excited and feeling dedication to the game again.

Being able to advertise groups in guild chats to arrange events and the like... awesome
Trading in guild text chat?... doubly awesome.
Being able to share my love of Chuck Norris puns with entire zones? Priceless.

its going to be funny when all these people who are excited about text chat are getting ganked because they're typing a paragraph out on their xbox key board. I am curious how they're going to make it easilly accessed considering the lack of a "cursor" to click on the chat box and start typing. Not to mention every button of the controller is already being used. So now what you'll have to go to the menus to bring it up? Still think its silly.

    Wireless bluetooth keyboard is $10.

Set controller down. Grab keyboard. Press Enter. Type text. Press enter. Grab controller. I type over 100 wpm so I can get that paragraph done in short order. I don't see any issue with it.

Shhhh. Logic and skill isn't something some of them can comprehend. Nor that fact that FFXI , and ARR have for years used text chat fine on consoles.

What is this magic you speak of a bluetooth keyboard or add-on keypad ? And being able to type quickly and communicate across the whole zone in PVP to organize large groups ? Wizardry I say , wizardry.

I can type just fine as well. But setting my controller down to type a silly message isnt something that i would be too keen on. Also I have found guild chat to already be effective in pvp anyways. I'd prefer not to have the silly randoms that you get in large groups and stick with the trusted few. I've been far more successful in groups of 12-15 vs while being in a zerg. Even when you are able to cordinate people don't listen anyways. I honestly don't think its going to be as great of a tool as everyone thinks it will be.

You can bet they'll take the time to use it for trading when they want to buy hard to find items, items in bulk, or just to save on fees. And of course to level crafting swap items for deconstruction.... that is one of the things I miss most about playing on PC.

I have a big enough guild its something i'm not to concerned with. I usually just deposit everything thats of value into the guild bank anyways. If i dont decon, or research it. I find my only use for gold in this game is mount training, armor repair, and respeccing. Sometimes i visit a guild trader to buy mats for lower level friends when i make their armor. But i have no qualms with gathering the materials i use for my own armor at Vet 11. The "trading" you speak of does remind me of the old days at Torch 1 on EQ lol! Hopefully it will make ZoS want to input an auction house of some sort.

I finally got around to watching the ESO Live episode where they talked about it.
I loved the line he said about textchat for console being "the most requested feature".
If only they would have listened to the players BEFORE they released it to consoles they could have saved themselves all the bad press on the issue...keeping some of the players they have lost due to the issue, and made more money from those lost players.
