Text Chat Finally Coming To Console

•Enable text chat on consoles later this year to help players – if they wish – to communicate zone-wide with other players, have easier access to emotes, and be able to chat with others using text instead of voice. This will be optional, and we will continue to fully support voice chat on console as the primary means of communication.

my question is when later this year q2 or q4 of the year haha im anxious to use text chat for grouping so my alts don't have to spend 1hr in a dungeon scaled to vet 16 haha

My guess is third or fourth quarter

My guess is third or fourth quarter

yeah probably haha. at least they will be releasing a "group finder 2.0" with the thieves guild maybe that will be better but I doubt it haha.

@LBC_Demon Are you saying you cannot read while playing the game? I am not sure why that would be my or anyones fault but yours. Most of us can type quite fast around 120-160 GWAM The fastest recorded ever was 297. That being said. The time it takes to type a few words can be around a second or so. The point is. They can hear you speak and talk via keyboard and most of the time they are better players because they have learned to type and still not stand in circles and what not.

I am not sure why you think you need to kick deaf, mute, someone with a stoma or anyone who just doesnt want to from your groups because you deem it so. Ive been playing MMOs for about 18 years now here and every MMO i can think of off the top of my head. In that time ive personally met about 20-30 people with such reasons that they cannot use a mic and honestly were some of the better raiders ive met. You really only need 1 person on the mic anyways to call out things etc and having multi people talking at once does not work in such situations. That being said with your ego so high up there why don't you just call everything out for others since only 1 person needs to be talking anyways.

Also people like YOU are the reason there is less community. Because you wont let people be involved because of your rules.

Well yea, if you drop people who don't conform to your rules of course there will be less of a feeling of community.

Group content Mic is a most you can't blame him while PVPing or during a Trail you need everyone on mics one person messing up because he was typing out a mong message that could have taken 2 seconds to say could cause your whole group to wipe.In groups text chat shouldn't even be used Voice chat is the best option 9/10.All consoles come with a Mic when you buy it.So you should have one I don't care if you use Headphones talk.

Their will be a rift anyway.Not everyone will use Text chat to begin with their many people who will just use Voice and be fine.So their already a rift in the community that won't be fixed anytime soon.In my Opinion if you want to be competitive you need to use voice.This isn't like PC where everything is in one place so it's easier to text and play.Here to text in a group you have to put your controller down and pick up a Keyboard to type fast.That's will at most take 10 seconds,10 seconds in this game will get you and at times your entire group killed.You all have to remember it isn't like PC where all of your controls are in the same place.Voice chat would be the best things for groups on Consoles text isn't as good on consoles.

I agree that voice is best for groups and text everywhere else, but not everyone will play like this. People will do what is most comfortable. I will use text when my baby is asleep next to me for example. We just have watch ourselves from turning in to voice nazis and make an effort to understand that not everyone is the same.

It amazes me that some people are still against this lol. Here's some advice. Since I don't like playing with people who think they should be using wrecking blow on their magicka sorcerer, I stick to only doing groups with guild mates and close friends. Likewise, if you don't want to play with people using text chat, only play with guildmates and close friends. It's really not that difficult. Text chat enhances the communication already in the game. It's not a competition.

This will be AWESOME! I was considering going back to PC due to the fact I am unable to use a MIC. Reason why is, because the way my house is set up leaves me unable to use a MIC 95% of the time. The problem with going back to PC is two reasons, 1. too much progress has been made on character and crown store items, 2. My laptop is too old to run it anymore and could cause issues if I try. Meaning if done right this is the exact solution I need.

It wont. And many people already dont use voice chat or are in party chat with their friends. This is one of the reasons text chat is needed. And if you really need to talk to them say that via text chat which you now finally cn instead of sending a XBL psn message. And im sure they will go into game chat.

Some dungeons if you know it Great doesnt need much communication if you are a decent player. But more hardcore stuff people always talk. And dude most hardcore people on PC dont communicate with eachother via text while they raid and do hard dungeons. They use skype or teamspeak

This is ignorant imo. No one expects you to not use voice for on the fly stuff... but there are too many times where cap happens and you need voice to help... finding someone that can make the right gear since forums forbid threads and you can't talk to a zone atnonce... getting people in cyrodil to help when an alliance camps the inside of a door for kills... people assume that if we get text then voice is gone... it's not but everything in between people not using it in groups and needing something not on the fly... it's an absolute necessity and zenimax should be ashamed and embarrassed for thinking voice is the true primary social method.

This has absolutely nothing to do with pc vs console. Wth man? This has to do with mmorpg's needing zone wide communication and the people who can't or won't use a mic, needing a way to communicate. Simple as that.

Btw every other CONSOLE mmorpg has text chat. It's nothing new.

Saying I would drop someone without a mic is harsh but if people aren't even in the mic chat listening I would drop them.

I can't honestly say how reading and talking would work out. That's why I said time will tell.

What I liked was that it forces people to get on mic. Not many people use mics any more these days and it is ruining a lot of games I would have had fun with.

People have the option to play call of duty and be in party chat with a few of their friends and that leaves me alone in the game talking to myself. Party chat gave us another option of where to communicate and it turned out to just separate people.

Back in the day on Socom every single person used a mic. Now everyone is splintered off.

So this game finally came around and forced you to use a mic and it's great. People talk. They even have it so if you are in a party on PS4 and you boot up the game it switches you out of party chat into game chat.

So I thank ZoS for trying to get everyone together on a unified communications system.

My opinion wouldn't change due to a company decision.

As stated many times, I completely understand why people want it, but I personally don't plan to use it and would prefer it not to be on the consoles due to how these types of features are poorly implemented and the use of many which becomes a toxic environment or just spam.

All of this is based on my personally experiences of using it in a very similar UI on PC under the game pad UI (BETA).

For those who do plan on using it...I really hope this is done in a way that doesn't mimic the obstacles I've experienced on PC. As we read how it was announced, I think most assume that this means, it will be like what is on PC. For the sake of those who have spent countless hours fighting for this...I hope to some extent, this announce is what you've asked for.

I can only imagine the feedback if its a text chat custom radial chat and some other text chat for zone.
ZOS often surprises me so again...for the sake of those who do want this...I hope its what you think and functional. I may sound crazy but...based off the last ESO live statement where its said...
”Is it possible we could have a text chat? Yes. Will we? I don’t think we can safely say one way or another. It probably is safe to say if we add a more text centric way to chat it won’t be a straight chat window.”

Well whatever form it takes (i hope it's the chat box we so badly need, especially in cyrodiil), i thank you for being so cool about it. I don't know yet how my guild will use it since we have been using a group chat on psn as our text chat and we really like it cause we can chat even out of game. We shall see.

@whiteshadow711jppreub18_ESO Just wanted to let you know, i bought one of those and they suck. Once you put it on the controller it feel's really awkward to play eso. Your finger's naturally like to go around the "elbow's? , end's of the controller?". What i'm trying to get at..... your finger's will not like holding the controller with it on.

However there is a work around. You can just buy a AUX cord extension to just type with it when you need to and keep it off to your side. It take's getting used to, i still type faster with the joystick's compared to this thing.

This is really great news. I hope they support the Xbox One Chat pad as that would make things a lot easier.

My other question is how will they or will they allow the ability to link items into the chat box like you can in the PC version? Since you don't have a mouse to right click and add to chat like on PC, I wonder how they would implement that? That is one thing about Chat not being on consoles is to send a chat message zone wide and linking the item you want to sell so people can click on it and actually see the item or the items stats.

If you use a controller on PC, you can link an inventory item to chat by opening your inventory, highlight the item you want to link, then press 'Y' (on xbox controller, IDK which button it is on PS4) for options and theres an option to 'link item to chat' right under 'destroy'. Selecting this automatically links this item to the chat box.

You clearly have not played any other hardcore mmo's otherwise you wouldn't be stating this.. Obviously come form CoD or Destiny...

Voice chat is good (albeit hardly anyone uses it anymore only the small ratio of hardcore raiders, Hence why they are added text chat..) ... but only to a point. Text chat is useful for everyone throughout all game-play.

Voice chat is only useful really for raiding and hardcore people.. Stop being so selfish to the people that want to play a normal mmorpg...

Everyone who constantly slates text chat, should be flagged in my opinion and when it goes live it is permanently disabled.
So everyone can trade and group, co-ordinate in cyrodyl ALOT better and those locked out will live a lonely solitary existence like they want us who cant use mic's.

In the last day alone six people whom have not used my guild's PSN chatroom for over two months have posted to it saying they are going to start playing actively again once the textchat is added to the game.

Six out of 57 people in the channel...that is a 10% return rate in just one little guild.

Imagine how many will come back, or how many new players will stay longer, when you consider the game as a whole.

Chat is becoming VR-removal 2.0. "Yeah, we remove them" Just a bit more" "Sorry to say its been delayed 6 month" "Soon guys, dont lose your faith".

Lack of chat sure gets people talking.. thats my point.
