Do You Solo Cyrodiil For The Fun Of It? (Why)
For the fun of it. I can dedicate time to group activities but not on a schedule or anything like that, especially with NA friends (being that I'm from AU). So, when I solo, I can do so at my own pace, with no expectation upon me to be an integral part of the group, and at the end of the day I can learn ways to manage offensive and defensive skills if in the event during group play that I find myself separated from my group and must fight my way back/out.

Do You Solo Because You Seek A Challenge? (Why)
I like playing a game of Cat and Mouse. Sometimes I'm the Cat, other times I'm the mouse.

Playing solo picking off targets from the enemy "smallscale" feels to me like moving a Knight on a chessboard. Striking at targets of opportunity, and evading the heavy hitters (Rooks, Queens).

Also, more people need to learn the difference between ganking and guerilla warfare. Ganking is a group of stealthers attacking a single target. Guerilla warfare is a solo or duo attacking enemy "smallscale" while using stealth.

For Those Who Do Not Solo In Cyrodiil. But Choose To Be In Group Instead. Please Pick This. (Why)
The only time I solo if no one is online and I'm bored or if Im competing on leaderboard or im emperor.

Otherwise I'm always playing in a group. I prefer playing with other people. Often the encounters in open world are too much for just one person to handle but a few friends can even the odds. I've met a lot of amazing people in groups. When you have played with the same people long enough you know how each other play and can just have a casual chat while wrecking havoc on the sea of reds incoming to alessia bridge. There a lot more activities available for groups such as scroll runs etc.

I solo because it is fun and I enjoy the challenge, but the biggest reason why I solo is because I absolutely hate teamspeak, and the majority of groups are TS only. All it is, is people talking crap and obvious instructions that I don't need repeated to me everyday.

    Example:

    "Guys, get in TS"
    *jumps into TS*
*People talking about stupid useless s#*!*
    *loud and annoying noises*
    "Now everyone, stack on crown"
    *more stupid sh$#*
"Okay everyone, remember to do the stupidly obvious thing that anyone who has been playing PVP for a couple weeks should already know (eg. use siege when sieging, stay together, don't over extend yourself, don't feed enemies AP, when wall is down go up on the left/right, counter siege when being sieged, etc.)"
    *Chewing noises*
*Leader proceeds to give a bunch of orders and commands that are either useless or common knowledge and didn't need being said*
*someones GF/wife or mum/brother/sister/etc. saying some crap to them*

Basically, I don't like small talk, especially with strangers, and when I am playing a game, I want to play the game, not hear someone's life story.

Lol, sounds like a low skill pug group with the leader getting peeps on TS, where people have to be give obvious commands, join a proper PvP guild, make some friends, and be on TS, a organised team will pretty much always wipe a unorganied unit, and in small scale PvP too.

I do play a lot of solo too and love the challenge and finding duels etc.

And hearing someones life story you do not know is annoying but that is the problem with TS Pug groups, and you do not like small talk?

You must be in high demand for the social scene?:P

I have been a member of a good few different PVP guilds, and none of them really do it for me and all of them have been similar insofar as general TS behavior is concerned. It's not all been bad, some times I have found decent groups that aren't terrible on TS, but it's not all that common.

I hate zerging. I really do. It's just just a game of chance with zergs. The latency is horrendous and I really don't think that this game is built for large scale PvP. Yes it has all the bells and whistles you'd expect to accompany large scale, but that doesn't mean the mechanics fit along side them. For instance a large group, theoretically, could all hit one button and simulate a one shot. That happens more often than not, and more importantly it happens without coordination.

To me this game has a ton potential on the small scale basis. The pressure is lowered to a degree that makes PvP actually fun. Coordination is a possibility, tactics and synergy between classes is more relevant.

I chose none of the above because I mainly Solo in Cyrodiil, but I do run with a small group from time to time. By small group I mean usually 2-4 players. On rare occasion I'll join a zerg to farm some quick AP, but I won't stay long. Going Solo or in a small group is in my opinion, not only challenging, but FUN. That's the key here.

Zergs are not fun to me. In a game I seek to have fun. Solo and small group offers that. If I'm not enjoying the game, I'm not going to play it. I'd assume the same from any sane person. Sure making Emperor pushes and scroll runs can be fun too, but that too can become just too repetitive.

If None Of The Reason Above For Solo Suits You. Please Pick This And Why Do You Want To Solo In Cyrodiil?
My pvp guild imploded, and I got used to jumping around the map on my own. Usually defense, because it's easy to spot where it will be needed, and because I don't want to drop on a guild's organized offensive push. I haven't put any effort into finding a new guild, and kind of enjoy being able to avoid zergs, but it does get a bit lonely and boring sometimes.

The few times I "solo" in Cyrodiil, it's to get variously achievements - like helping out in the towns or fishing. It's rare I do this though, as I usual pair up with my boyfriend when going to Cyrodiil ^^

I play solo mostly, the reason for this is really because there are other things going on in my house.
So, even if I am logged on and playing a bit, I need to be afk for various reasons throughout an evening.

I like joining my guild's group raids (Honour), its a good laugh, and there are no *chewing noises* on TS which is important, but I feel when I am on there that you really need to be able to concentrate entirely on what the group is doing which isn't always easy for me.

Having started playing solo a lot more as a result, I actually quite enjoy it and just pick up from chat what the guilds are up to and try and help out where I can. Foxey is the master at this, constantly communicating with the zone.
Works for me, especially if I am only on for a short while.

I am normally either solo or in a duo. I don't like "needing" to follow the directions of a big group leader. It's much more fun to me to just look around for action and go where ever I want to. I'll often find my way to the bigger battles anyway, but when I get there I can still help out in my own way. I don't need to stack on crown.

I solo for the challenge. Just before I first made the decision to stop my leadership role for NPK, I realized I was terribad and needed to solo to learn my class and how to pvp.

To me there is nothing more important and exciting than arriving at a keep defense/offense and instantly heading to the enemy's reinforment lane to slow them down. It keeps you on your toes.

It's because of this move I can say I'm more competent as a player.

I switched campaigns due to lag. I just couldn't play in azura. I was dying from things and people I couldn't even see. Booted out of the game. It was rough.

I mostly solo. I like to wander around at my own pace. Grab some flowers, do a delve / anchor. I tend to afk a bit, so its inconvenient to group up. If I see a fight clise by, I will go there and lend a hand.

I do PvP with my guild on occasion though. The group PvP is very fun when I can devote the time. Big fights still lag me a lot, but it's still fun with my guildies. Not sure what I will blame my deaths on when they fix the lag issue.

I tend to do 2-3 hours of solo play every day before changing into my zerg outfit. I find it's a good warm up, and requires a different set of skills. Only recently have I gotten the hang of stam DK in a 1vX setting, and it's been a blast.

There's no room for error in solo play, and that's what I enjoy about it. When you die it's on you, no scapegoats necessary. I identify what I did wrong, and slam my head against that wall until I've overcome or found a way to counter with something other than brute force.

I do much rather enjoy group play, but with ping how it is as of late, I find myself soloing a lot more.

On my nightblade I 1vX a lot. I like the challenge of wiping a small group (3-10) solo. The largest I've wiped without guards or mobs is 6. From the time you spot the group until everyone's dead you need to be 100% aware. If not, you die. It's like maelstrom, just without the daedroths. It's a completely different play style from group play.
The most fun I have though is when my guild gets a small 10 man together and we wipe them zergs with my Templar. Such fun. Much ap.
BWB Stam sorc ganking is fun too.

Probably the thrill of fighting outnumbered and winning. Although with the current ball groups meta it is difficult to find small skirmishes, so most of the time I spend riding my horse lmao.

When I was a new to the game i joined big groups to get familiar with pvp but I found it dull and boring because it required little to no real player skill.

I run in groups because it is the only way to get things done. You cant take keeps or help crown emp solo. Running in a well organized, efficient team is great fun. Some of the best times ive had was running in a group with my guild, taking the last two keeps to crown an emp and celebrating. Good times.

Do You Solo Because You Seek A Challenge? (Why)
Well to be honest at the games current stage and the increasing number of unskillful stacked groups running around in pvp at the moment solo players are rare to come by and I can understand why.

Personally when I play solo my aim is to have fun of course and even if I'm being try harded down by 20+ players who then proceed to tbag my corpse I still find a laugh at the fact they would go to such lengths to kill me and then to tbag me must mean I am doing something right.

Then again I have the most amount of fun when I am winning as I am quite a competitive person at times so this is where I enjoy seeking the challenge of being outnumbered and walking away the last one standing.

So I guess I'd say I solo for a number of reasons but it really boils down to having fun and being able to improve and learn, I don't find that I learn much from being in groups that consist of more than 12 players whereas when I fight alone and I die then 90% of the time I know where I personally went wrong (or where I got rekt by zos) and it doesn't boil down to the leader or healer that got me killed.

@olsborg I have a bone to pick with you! http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/216152/1vshield-breaker-many-more-enemies/p1

There's only so many possible outcomes in a group - you wipe against a group, you wipe a group, you take or lose that keep.

All the while, you know the outcome would probably be the same if you weren't there.

Soloing? Endless possibilities, from impromptu duels, to 1vX... hide and seek from that farming group, getting zerged, prepping keeps, etc.

Plus, you don't have to listen to some friggin obnoxious nasally Patton-wannabe kid yelling at you on teamspeak (over the other kids yelling at each other) when you go to grab a beer.

It's a mix of things. Mostly I enjoy the challenge and solo killing people is much more fun and satisfying as opposed to getting one hit on someone. But I also like to be free to make decisions about what I think is appropriate in PvP without someone over me trying to make calls (which sometimes I don't agree with and get me and the rest of the group killed).
Apart from that, less lag with no large group around me.

Some reasons I group up with other though from time to time:

    - Get sick of getting ganked on horse back and my skills locking up even if I manage to get off
    - Get sick of dying to a billion people at once and don't feel like being the single target of them all
    - Get sick of being locked down by people who group spam gap closers
    - Sometimes just like to run with nice people or friends
    - Very occasionally I run with people who are struggling to try to make PvP a better place for them
