In theory it would be nice, in reality impossible. The exploiting that would occur (mat farming, xp farming, gear farming) would ruin the game

If you want to take the MMO out of MMORPG, go play a single player game.
    Like Skyrim.
If others bother you so much, play and let play.
With an offline mode, ZOS may as well release single player games for the different factions.
And I'm compelled to agree that plenty of gamers will cheat.

How about this analogy; you opened some can of worms! Just by asking this question you have unleashed the wrath of the ESO forum monsters on you :p

Unfortunately it's something that has to be built into the game from the get-go, otherwise it would ruin and break a lot. It's an MMO though, and there are a lot of places you can do solo questing (Silver/Gold) or just play at off-peak times.

It is, and as I mentioned it has been done before with other MMO's, but it changes things drastically so it's not really an option at this point of the development.

If you want to make people even angrier, you could always say that Dragonknights/Templars need a nerf, that GroupDamage as an addon is evil and should never have existed, and that you want to buy gold in the Crown store (Note: do not EVER say any of these things here!)

It's remarkably easy to save edit on console, players do it all the time. ESO is not an offline game in the end. I get many people wanted Skyrim 2.0, but that's not at all what ESO is.

Something tells me a bunch of people can't read. They said TWICE now, that it's due to unstable internet.

    Yes, it's an MMO. Duh!

We get that it couldn't/wouldn't happen, they were just asking.

Exploits/hacks already happen, so that argument is moot.

You will never see people from other alliances in Silver/Gold, so the only people you'll see there are people like you going through the quests (or grinding). There are much less people there as a result.

Actually, I'm not entirely against the offline mode concept myself. I've always thought that maybe just the 1-50 and main storyline could be done offline while anything else (veteran, Champion, and group content) would absolutely require connection. There are times I have to go out of town and hotel wireless isn't always reliable, I'd enjoy being able to level an alt while I am away.

I see where you guys are coming from with this proposal, but I really don't think it's as feasible as it may seem initially.

There is group content in every single zone - group dungeons, public dungeons, world bosses. While you may be fine with skipping that until later, it defeats the whole purpose of writing it into the game to begin with. A small portion of the community can complete these solo, most of which are very experienced players, and have access to hundreds of champion points.

probably going to get majorly trolled,

but i actually have been thinking about this more and more, makes sense to me lol

I haven't read the replies to you yet, I suspect there will be much lol, but - I'm sure you're not the only one thinking this. It was inevitable. MMOs play more and more like single-player experiences, with the added bonus of Barrens Chat, for a new player. Poor grouping and social tools, and you get a whole bunch of people questing with little or no group content along the way. ESO, more than many, also lends itself to solo play: exploration, poking around, random ish in the corners, crafting. So it was probably bound to happen that it comes full circle.

IN practical terms - er, sorry, never going to happen. Security and exploit issues, even if it were technically possible. FYI, the majority of the game mechanics are happening on the servers. Your client is only showing you the results. You have art and sound assets on your hard drive; the "game itself" is the server. I realize the details are probably fuzzy to most people, but - old school single-player games were Microsoft Word, an MMO is Google Docs. To vastly oversimplify.

Well, that's not a bad idea. But it must be completely separeted from online mode for sure
So you basically just save your character in your computer, like in Diablo 2 or others single-games.

"Offline" mode is technically possible in the way that Elite:Dangerous does it; where everything is still stored server-side (they don't but ESO does so slightly different, but the same idea applies) and a small internet connection is needed to sync data whilst the world remaining in a "solo mode". However, this would take a lot of technical overhaul, and as has been seen with E:D people can grind easier in solo and come back to open with lots of mats/gold etc that would be harder to get otherwise due to the competition.

Actually an offline version of this game might make sense. One day. When the game will no longer be much playable as an MMO.

As for myself I would also love it more elements would be more client based instead of both. That way perhaps the performance on lower end systems will get some massive improvements.

Also another interesting element would be the ability to switch off the players. Just go on a server where you're all alone. So you can enjoy the solo content all by yourself. :)

And for the MMO-ngers. Would be interesting several servers where you can play on different difficulty settings / teams.

Switch off the players? I mean, you're being serious? Name me an MMO that has ever done that. Ever.

The only way to do this would be to give every player their own instance of the world. It baffles me that people come and play an MMO (which by definition is with other people) and dream of making it a single player experience. It's single player enough.

    So, no.

I have to agree that there are plenty of games out there that are not mmos, so switching off players would ruin the whole point of the game, since the game is made to be played with others, otherwise they would have made it single player from the beginning.
Dont get me wrong, I would also enjoy sometimes to play alone in a huge world and get all the chests etc for me xD but implementing something like this sounds like a lot of hard work, and lets be honest there are plenty of other things they should work on, like giving us a druid or necromancer or a fluffly giant sheep we can ride on xD...
