Kagrenac's Hope - Semi Casual Perspective

Hear me out please.. (I doubt I am alone on this)

I play ESO a lot, at least from my perspective it seems like I play it too much. I am on console and it hasn't left my console since release last June. In that time I have grinded two characters to V16 and also have two others on the up and up. Anyway, to the topic.

My main was a stam NB (only stam class I have), in which around October I was able to earn enough mats/gold to make him some V16 Hundling's Rage. Since then the grind has continued and just recently I have been able to acquire enough mats/gold to make my magicka Temp some gear. I chose to make Kagrenac's Hope as it seemed like the best utility set for a Templar. This cost me close to all my gold and stones to get everything i needed to have a buddy craft this set for me. I am enjoying it so far, my stats still suffer some cause I don't have enough money left over to pay for gold tempers/etc. but I am doing fine and it's a huge QOL improvement in game.

Yesterday, I was in Cyro with my buddy and he was telling me there were rumors of Kagrenac's getting changed in an upcoming patch, by taking the spell damage bonus out. This would absolutely destroy my moral to keep playing my Templar, I simply don't think I have the will to grind for more gold and mats especially considering I still don't even have enough to max out what I already have. I would think many more would be in my situation, and have spent more than likely several months/weeks grinding tel var and hustling just to make/buy gear, and if said gear gets nerfed then there will be many that will just drop, cause the grind is just so much.

In short, please be mindful that if you are planning on changing sets in the future, you also need to understand that the uptick in crafting V16 sets has completely changed ESO's economy for the worse and added to the grind. Some people simply do not have the time or hustle to have/make/buy 2+ max sets of gear.

Would be nice to know what's coming ahead of time so we as in game consumers/investors can make informed decisions.

Thanks.

Well, you would know when it hits the PTS, so that's a little bit of lead time. And sometimes they mention changes on ESO Live before the PTS. Not sure if it will ever be sooner than that. Hasn't been for any of the many other set changes.

I remember deconning a couple gold Song of Lamae pieces when they took the spell damage out of that set. I understand your concern.

PTS is normally something like 1-2 months away from the changes right? Which would mean that requires me to grind for those 1-2 months just to prepare for an upcoming patch. That's just BS in my opinion. I only recently reached max level on these characters and would like to have end game gear for longer than a month.. Does that make sense? I don't mean to whine about it, even though that's exactly what I am doing. I suppose something else to take into account is that for console players they raised the cap after 3-1/2 months, which most people weren't even maxed or geared by then. So for a lot of us we haven't had a chance to really enjoy end game equipment or even some content.

I could easily arm a 12-man raid group with all the gold gear I have deconstructed. Gear has a shelf life of 3-6 months in this game, depending on how fast you get it.

For crafted gear, the solution is simple. Give crafters the ability to change the gear they make. I am not holding my breath, but it would be nice. I have a gold Kagrenac set that I would love to be able to change some traits on. I have a few Gold Night Mothers pieces that I would like to be able to change to something else as well.

Best advice I can give is do your writs. Until this patch, I never bought any gold mats, but I have sold a ton. I did this patch, because i had to make 4 sets of gear (alt problems), and I ran out of wax. I find doing daily writs gives enough gold mats for some new digs every patch.

If anything they'll take out the faster rezz speed out of Kag's not the spell damage boost OP. There's alot of QQ about super fast rezzing in Cyrodill.
But I too share your concern I recently finished gearing my magblade/Sorc which included 5 pc Kags and it cost me all of my mats and quite alot of gold it would also dampen my motivation to continue.

But right now I'll have to emphasize the point that it's just a rumor don't freak out just yet.

Yes, v15 mats are required. Clothing, Blacksmithing, and Woodworking, generally require you to make 2 v9 items and 1 v15 item. Enchanting requires v15 mats (not v16), Alchemy requires some Lorkhans Tears, and Provisioning requires some green v15 food.

Like anything else, writs are subject to RNG so you can certainly have a string of bad luck; however, as a general rule, they result in a surplus of mats. Take clothing for example: You typical need about 25 pieces of Voidcloth and 12-14 pieces of ancestor silk to complete the writ. A typical survey is going to give you 60-70 raw mats of both types of mats. You will also get gold mats from the lootbox itself, and from refining ore. You also get gold, soul gems, random weapons to decon, and glass motif fragments.

My advice is farm up enough mats to make a start and do it for a week and see where you are at. You will most likley be ahead.

-Provisioning can easily be done on several toons, just buy the 6 recipes you need (all green, so cheap) and make a stack of each to share among your characters. You literally just pick up the quest and turn it in once the food is in your inventory This is the easiest writ, but prob least rewarding. You can even have a friend make it for you. You do occasionally get ambrosia pieces worth selling.

-Alchemy. The only thing tricky here is that you seem to burn through nirnroot, as its one of the items it occasionally asks for. This is the only mat that I found myself buying to complete a writ. Otherwise, its one of a handful of potions, and like provisioning, you can make a bunch of in advance.

    - Enchanting. If everyone did enchanting writs, Kuta would be worthless. I get far more than I could ever possibly use. I make sure to do this on 4 toons (about to be 5) every day. The only thing tricky is getting some v15 mats to get started, but once you do, you will have more than you need. The surveys drop tons of v15 mats.

Woodworking, clothing, enchanting: these are the most mat intensive, but over the long haul, they give more than they take.

I do between 2-6 writs on 5 different toons. I make about 10k in gold a day just from the drop boxes and usually get 3-4 random gold mats and 2-3 surveys. Also, dont forget about your hirelings. They dont give mats like they used to, but they are still worth the skill points if your crafting skill is at max level.

Without a source, what's the point of this thread other than to QQ? When the next PTS is live we can discuss the included balance changes. After ESO Live we can discuss upcoming balance changes that they talked about. Crying over spilt milk is bad enough but to cry over a glass of milk that is still sitting on the counter is just sad. Oh no, it could spill all over the floor! Let's cry about having to possibly pour a new glass of milk.

Kag's used to not have spell damage. Then they added it in IC and Kag became the best crafted magicka gear. And then Julianos came along, and Kag got sidelined in favor of Julianos.

I would be surprised if they removed the spell damage, as (1) it would be a reversal of a fairly recent change (2) it would be a nerf to a set that isn't the meta and (3) it would be nerfing an aspect of the set that nobody has complained about.

So unless those rumors are substantiated, I would leave them as just that: rumors.

The cost to create gear now is different than ever before, the consequences of something like that would be a lot bigger than ever before as well. That's my only thing. Even though yes I am QQ'ing over a rumor the same goes for pretty much every set, if they nerf or change a set to uselessness now the cost to re-gear is insane.

    Wow, that just isn't right.

You are telling me. The worst is that none are divines. 2 infused, 3 well-fitted. Also, shoulder is literally the one piece I have no interest in using, as I want to wear Kena Shoulders. I will say that normally my RNG is pretty good in this game. I have 4 Kena Helms and 6 shoulders, but I dont have one usable complete set from vWGT or ICP. I have given up at this point. If it happens, it happens. SPC is the only one I really want.

My most comical RNG to date (its only funny now) is that I never got a master weapon from DSA in any trait but defending. If only my luck with powerball was this good. Haha

I am betting there will be a full re-gear with Thieves Guild for two reasons. First, the potential to have the VR system removed/replaced with a CP system. Second, there was not a full re-gear with Orsinium and it seems like twice a year is about what ZOS wants.

The consequences of what exactly? So far there is no information anywhere to validate that the spell damage would be removed. The point being that you can argue how literally anything in the game requires effort and if it is changed then it would penalize many of the players but until such information is confirmed you are literally complaining about nothing.

If you want to complain then make it about how writs were nerfed and rarely grant gold mats, or how you cannot upgrade the level of an already crafted item, or change traits, style (especially if new ones are added), etc. I completely understand what you mean when you complain about crafting costs but you are arguing about the wrong issue(s).

Op, if you're looking for reassurance from ZOS, don't bother. Cause whatever they say today, they can always change their minds later on. E.g. Night's Silence set that used to stack with other speed bonuses. People asked them if it was intended and they said yes, then changed their minds later on, screwing the players who crafted it to legendary after ZOS' assurance that it was working as intended.

My advice? Just be prepared. Start saving/accumulating mats and tempers and gold. For example, I have 5 characters that I do IC dailies with. On a good day I can end up with 10k TVs, which I then use to buy a stack of mats.

It's an MMO. It will constantly change. Be ready.

At least 80% of the magicka builds in pvp are running 5pc Kagrenacs atm so I wouldnt be too worried about any upcoming changes.

It would upset a great number of players so I dont think the chance is big that the spell dmg bonus will be removed.
If anything would change it most likely be the rez reduction time because that makes rezzing in Cyrodiil extremely short.

We'll know more when the updates are on the PTS.
