Huh, I went back to look at the comment that I was replying to and it was formatted such that you were writing it. The first quote goes back to the last part of the second paragraph in this comment: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/2387137/#Comment_2387137 I don't see what the misquote is, but if I find it, I will fix it.

Sorry, should probably clarify, I meant this quote:

Actually you are incorrect the maintenance message for today was only posted after the server came back up after the issues they had with the maintenance yesterday as explained here forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/227015/na-and-eu-megaserver-maintenance

This however is irrelevant to my OP as I understand there was an issue and must be fixed hence I have no problem with tonight's maintenance, what is relevant is that you state in the first part of your post that it is a convenience thing but why was it okay for over a year from launch to have maintenance start at a specific time (which you would assume is during their standard working hours) and now suddenly it's inconvenient and had to change, that does not make sense at all.

I just removed it in my reply because it wasn't relevant.

On a related note, who at Zenimax thought it was a good idea to have the live server down AND PTS at the same time? At least if PTS was up i could be theorycrafting...

Thank you @SienneYviete, @Nolphi, @mystercee, and everyone else that can actually see what the issue is, and doesn't have selective sight in this thread. It's extraordinary the amount of people in this thread that only see what they want to see, and only argue what they can argue against, yet ignore things they don't have a chance in refuting. There has been two different scenarios that will help the issue, either: a) put the maintenance times back to the way they were, or; b) change them to 9 or 10am EDT as suggested by @Nolphi.

Yes, as many have said, it'll be prime time somewhere around the world, no one here is denying that. But ignoring Oceania and thinking it's not a major part of a player base, is just downright ignorant. Having said all that, I would love it for a mod to come in here and say something like: "Woah, don't worry guys, this is just temporary leading up to Orsinium." I can live with that.

Talking of mods though, why would one come in here just to rouse on people and not address the issue? If the issue was addressed, it would in turn, stop (or at least hinder) any further arguments between players :|

No one ignoring Oceania. It's likely though that Oceania and SEA combined together are not close to the amount of players NA itself given to the game...though don't take my word on it.

Also actually, many in this thread understand the issue quite right, it's just some of you people seems to always thinks that anyone who dare to speak not on your side as those who don't read and understand.

You see, SienneYviete there keep saying that i don't understand that his issue is with the changed timing, while he quoted me exactly saying that i do understand that his issue is with the changed timing. Because i understand that you have issue with the changed timing, i say that you making it an issue at all shown your self-important...which simply looks the same as seeing you say that any timing is fine as long as it doesn't clash your prime time, on another word, f**k for other prime time as long as they don't touch the Oceanic prime time. Again, pretty self-important :P

ZOS could quite easily put this to rest with a simple short explanation eg: (4am EST is the smallest playerbase timeslot) or (we dont have control over hardware upgrade times since we rent the servers)
Letting it fester is bad PR.

I agree, but an alternative offline mode needs to be introduced fast, everybody is getting tired of weekly downtime, especially eso plus paid members.

Youre new to MMOs arent you? Because there isnt a successful MMO out there that doesnt have weekly down time. The amount of players and interactions going on in a game in the span of a single day is absurdly high. A week is putting a lot of stress on those servers. They need to come down weekly for either patches or to reboot the Servers and give them a bit of down time. If youve ever ran your Computer 24/7 never turning it off and continously doing inquiries and other actions youd quickly see a diminishing performance from the Computer.

The Server itself has to come down for a hard reboot. No getting around it. The idea of an alternative just screams 'I have no clue what Im talking about'.

We are making it an issue because it was never a problem UNTIL NOW the last two weeks for which the time has changed, if you can please point me in the direction of the complaint threads from other users regarding timing of the standard maintenance's which have been around since April 2014 for NA PC affecting their prime time playing hours then i'm all ears.

What is more worrying is that after multiple tags on mods who could easily put this issue to rest with a quick post informing us whether the changes to maintenance are temporary due to orsinium or will be permanent have not happened.

    Is DCUO considered successful?

They don't have weekly down time....it's daily

Although it usually only takes 20 mins, so that's all good. However the servers reboot at different times - NA around 10-11pm NZ time, and EU around 3-4 NZ time. Great if we play on the EU server...not so great if we wanted to play on the NA server.

Oh no the small population on an isolated continent don't like me what ever shall I do. If you think that this is an American thing than you have not been on the internet long, We live in an age where all western civilization is cut form the same cloth. You hating Americans in specific shows your own prejudice and preconceived notions as you have never been here. Besides most Americans could care less if you want to hate and have pride in being a great nation. When things go down the U.S. is there to handle it. Terrorism, natural disasters you name it we get there. Two world wars thrust us into the role of global saviors and police and there is no going back and you are better off for it. Try and stop us.

    WOW! Really?! . . . for seriously??!

OMG the LolZ are making me cry. for the moment i will assume you are North American (by the context of the above ^).
"America" = North America - and not the peeps, but the policies.

1/ no one here is saying it is an American Thing
2/ no one here is hating on America(ns)
3/ all Western Civilisation is most definately NOT cut from the same cloth
4/ this: "Besides most Americans could care less if you want to hate and have pride in being a great nation", is non-sensical.
5/ when Things-Go-Down as you so succinctly put it, the U.S. is usually there to put out the 'fires' - generally because they have been the root of the problem from the beginning, or there is Oil involved.
6/ America was not thrust into any role. America chose, for whatever reason, to get involved, towards the end.
7/ are we (humanity) better off for Americas 20thC medling and subsequent white-knighting that has brought about a planet wide plague of terrorism that has now escalated into mass displacements of entire peoples from their homelands?
8/ i think this: "you are better off for it. Try and stop us." sums up your attitude and beliefs

you come accross as an assuming, conceited and arrogant bigot that thinks the internet is the perfect place to belittle and degrade people you do not know anything about, whilst sitting in comfortably in the percieved protection of anonymity the Internet provides you.

    quote from, ZakuBeta:
"We Americans also, force our culture on other people, force our system of government on other countries, go out of our way to belittle anyone not like us, and don't even follow our own rules. Yeah, I get why other countries/cultures/people don't like us much. Go look for the story on the American couple that defaced the Roman Colosseum. Yet we get ticked off when the ISIS blows up an ancient building. Yes the amount of destruction is smaller, but it is still destroying something. Terrorists target us because of our countries choices/interference in their affairs. Our country is also falling behind in education, and also consumes more than we produce. Our country hasn't been "Great" in decades. What pride do you see? I haven't seen pride in our country for a while, heck we have people trying to bring over different cultures all the time, and some people are even actively leaving to go join those terrorists, the system we have is failing, but those with the money/power don't want to make the necessary changes, to save our nation. People are defending the rights of those of African decent to showcase their heritage, but then those in the southern part of the country are being told that they can't show their heritage by flying their old flag. Do I agree with it....yes and no case depending. Will I defend both sides right...Yes. Sadly, that "right" is being trampled on by other people who seem to feel that their "rights" are more important.

I have a saying that I use frequently IRL:

"Welcome to America, land of the free, if you can afford it, and home of the brave, if you pay us enough."

    Rant over.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread."

shout you a beer if your ever in town Zaku. ;)

THE question of WHY has still not been answered. . . .

    cheers,
    .LJ

ps: forgot this bit: yeah ive been to the U.S., not as great as its made out to be honsetly. and as for the gun culture and open-carry policies . . .

    actually thats where you're wrong.

if this is set up like a proper enterprise environment (however Zeni are quite cagey about the actual setup so we'll never know..) then it's really quite simple in vCenter/H-VM

Lets say Megaserver Rack #1 is a dozen 2RU Rack Servers all on dual FC OM3 back to redundant FC Fabric Interconnects interfaced with SAN LUN's.

in vCenter Move VM to different LUN attached to another ESXi Host (Assuming that the 'MegaServer' environment is a library of Physical VMWare Hosts, i.e. each of those 12 servers in the rack). It can be done in a running state and not shut down.

When all VM's are moved off the Host the Physical Host (1 out of those 12) can be shut down. Do what work is required to 'upgrade' the Server (i.e. Additional RAM, 5 minute job on a Dell R520 for example), then switch her back on and migrate the VM's back to the ESXi Host.

Heck you can even use that method to replace an entire rack with minimal downtime..

Foot in mouth syndrome, the OP is related to the scheduled maintenance the day beforehand not the unscheduled maintenance from yesterday, please at least read the date the OP was created before commenting next time.
