NewBlacksmurf wrote: »NewBlacksmurf wrote: »Another is player interactions and the speed of play.
Text chat takes A LOT longer to type and read/respond compared to voice chat. My first observation in console BETa was while running around I met, grouped and played all at once. Quests, dungeons and trying to explain things was always done while playing. New dungeons took less of the time to play even explaining to brand new players.
Text chat as experienced on PC in closed BETa to launch took an average of 1-2 hours per reg dungeon. Console took 15-30 mins.
That is what voice chat is for. I'm sorry if this comes off bad, but one thing people have constantly repeated ad nausium is that no one wants to get rid of voice chat. Does this need to be said differently? Is there something you don't comprehend about "no one wants to get rid of voice chat" or "we want both?" It has its purposes, and what you describe here is one of them. And no one is debating that.
Again, sorry of this is mean sounding, but this argument keeps being made, and it really doesn't seem to make sence unless you don't understand those two phrases.
Actually if you follow this thread there are many who are asking for text chat in order to not have to use voice chat.
The belief that adding a feature that allows different groups to opt in and out of forms of communication will have a huge outcome on the game in a negative manner as it splits people. This was explained by Zenimax and was one of the reasons why text chat was scrapped during development.
It doesn't need to be said to me differently but perhaps your understanding of how human behavior and options work are causing you to not follow my comments.... or maybe just that I need to say this to you again differently. (Not meant to be rude, sorry if it comes off short)
The server population is split by three factions and within those three, normal, silver and gold questing zones.
Here is the result of adding text chat:
There are ppl that don't mind voice chat
There are those who do mind voice chat
There are those who don't like text chat
There are those who do like text chat
There are those who don't want to communicate at all
There are those who will swap between one or the other
^Depending on the category you fall in, the player that you're interacting with will fall into one of these as well. Everyone will not fall into the same nor will it be a 50/50 so you end up splitting the community which is bad.
Here is what we have today:
those who chat and those who don't.
Those who party chat
Those who in-game chat, group, guild
It's already split so to add more options results in dividing your player base even more.
From Zenimax's point of view...this isn't the direction they want to go.
My opinion...it would be idiotic especially considering the option exists on another platform that has existed a year prior.
My opinions and argument may not make sense to ou but the logic behind your question and my answer is above.
Simply put, the goal of this game is to bring as many people together on one server as possible with one form of communication. The game design has a splitting or separating nature so to further split the population is not a good idea.
Communication is one of the most influential things about humans. Adding text chat isn't simply just putting a box in.
What languages will be needed vs the few that will complain their language is left out and how does the language get converted from one console to another?
Its not a PC
Is there something wrong with you? I'm serious, i think you have serious delusions of grandeur.
No one wants to not use VOIP, it's basically best under certain circumstances... like dungeons and raids.. for everything else Chat box is superior in everyway.
You are still spouting crap and not helping the community, Please just stop..
Your winding alot of people up now.

That's great for you, but wait till you get up in the VR levels & you end up sitting around for hours & days on end trying to get groups for dungeons & craglorn quests with no luck. Then tell us how "great" the lack of text chat is ....

If he find s a good guild and group of friends slike alot of players have done since playing he won't have to wait hours.

And its really hard to find groups, sell stuff, advertisee your guild and so on,now people need to send messages which is really annoying, you need to open their gamer profile then send a message..... annoying huh? With text chat we wouldnt need to do all those annoying things,it would make things much easier, would make it more of a community! Please zos i beg you,i even lost motivation to play becouse of this...
I still think voice chat is great for pvp but why not have both text and voice? And before people come with the"console players dont like or dont use text chat or typing" argument,i have gotten and sent more text messages in Eso then i have/got in any game,BEfore downvoting me i am just saying that this isnt a hateful comment, just something that i really hope they change.
this is especially a problem on european megaserver, some people may not be able to speak or understand engluish well but may be good at reading and typing ( i am one of those )

IF, lol. That's the problem with this game. Too many If's Text Chat's will encourage people to be more social. This games biggest issue is that, ZoS refuses to fix this problem.
I keep hearing this argument, that people can work around the LFG silence or the noise pollution by joining a guild. Why would someone only want to talk to guildmates in a game like this? It's not a FPS where you only really need to communicate with a fireteam or clan. It's an open world multiplayer roleplaying game. It has entirely different communication requirements in order for its basic defining features to be used to their full potential. If he find s a good guild and group of friends slike alot of players have done since playing he won't have to wait hours.

We can't really say they refuse to "fix" the problem.
However, they do refuse to "comment" on the problem...which is starting to feel just as bad, personally.

I'm sure someone has already said it, but i can't go through 70 or so pages of posts to check. So my idea is, if text chat is "too hard to implement" (or whatever reason can be given), we should be able to make custom quick chat phrases, and have a 10-20s cooldown to prevent spam. Also, obviously block "offensive" material. Anyone up for that?
Also, have a quick wheel swap, so you can have a wheel full of chat phrases and another with emotes and whatnot. Like, you could open the wheel, press triangle or Y, and get another complete wheel.
Yeah, i figured the visual part problem right after i wrote it. I guess having a text box appear would fix that, but at that point might just have a full on text chat. I'd just like more liberty with the quick chat, can't even say thank you.THat idea has been brought up.
However, that still only gets a message to people:
1. With "quick-chat" turned on.
2. Within visual distance.
So, just like with Area-Voice when it is turned off you are not heard, and when you are not right next to a person you are not heard.
Really doesn't solve anything.
But, is still an option I would use until a FULL TextBox can be put into the game.

Their already people being social able I hear the same thing I would probably have to read in text chat their players talking all the time. Also the only reason I used if was respond to the OP was to be sarcastic he more then likely will find a Guild and group to play with just because you can't doesn't mean he won't everyone Experience is different.People tall all the time and not all of it is bad OK here a example from a hour ago some of you might consider it spam but I consider it hurt warming and something you wouldn't get from text chat.
So I was at a crafting stationed in Waryrest X1 and this player had his mic on and out of no where his father just came and yelling at him and said every cursed word in the boom.Afterwards the player wasn't crying but he was down you can tell from his voice and the people around the crafting station started telling him its OK it be alright and out of no where this man he sounded around 40 started talking to him and he just told him his life story and that when he was young his father was the same way and he told him how he got through it.That thing was beautifully and not one person said anything about it and the kid thanked him.He could have just saved that boys life right their. That's something you would never get from Just a text box.
My example isn't a argument for not adding it but to show you guys not all of it is spam and people playing music.Their are actual conversation and bonds being forged. So please don't say all of it is spam some of it is real and have more players being social then you might think.

Ya know really kiss my ***
At this point I don't even care anymore if I get banned or not.. I've spent hours each day for that last 2 weeks trying to find groups for dungeons & craglorn quests with no luck whats so ever.
Two-thirds of my ESO "friends", around 40 people have quit already & moved on to other games. 2 of the 5 guild I was in have folded the other 3 rarely have more than a handful of people on anymore.
I have a post in the NA PS4 guild section I have been bumping for a week looking for a vet DC PVE guild without a single reply, IM, ingame e-mail, or PSN friend request...
I have sat for HOURS in Craglorn asking for quest groups IN VOICE CHAT with NO RESPONSE....
So tell me how can I find these magical group of friends like you have that are always on & ready to do things?
If we had text chat none of this would be an issue ... I could ask in guild & in zone for groups , look for a new guild in zone chat, etc.
