Me and about 15 friends started on release day, only 2 of us remain. I've added probly another 30 since. Maybe 10 of them still play. The fact that only 7% of the people who bought the game on ps4 have finished the lvl 45 storyline says alot.

Text chat takes A LOT longer to type and read/respond compared to voice chat. My first observation in console BETa was while running around I met, grouped and played all at once. Quests, dungeons and trying to explain things was always done while playing. New dungeons took less of the time to play even explaining to brand new players.
Text chat as experienced on PC in closed BETa to launch took an average of 1-2 hours per reg dungeon. Console took 15-30 mins.
That is what voice chat is for. I'm sorry if this comes off bad, but one thing people have constantly repeated ad nausium is that no one wants to get rid of voice chat. Does this need to be said differently? Is there something you don't comprehend about "no one wants to get rid of voice chat" or "we want both?" It has its purposes, and what you describe here is one of them. And no one is debating that.
Again, sorry of this is mean sounding, but this argument keeps being made, and it really doesn't seem to make sence unless you don't understand those two phrases.
Actually if you follow this thread there are many who are asking for text chat in order to not have to use voice chat.
The belief that adding a feature that allows different groups to opt in and out of forms of communication will have a huge outcome on the game in a negative manner as it splits people. This was explained by Zenimax and was one of the reasons why text chat was scrapped during development.
It doesn't need to be said to me differently but perhaps your understanding of how human behavior and options work are causing you to not follow my comments.... or maybe just that I need to say this to you again differently. (Not meant to be rude, sorry if it comes off short)
The server population is split by three factions and within those three, normal, silver and gold questing zones.
Here is the result of adding text chat:
There are ppl that don't mind voice chat
There are those who do mind voice chat
There are those who don't like text chat
There are those who do like text chat
There are those who don't want to communicate at all
There are those who will swap between one or the other
^Depending on the category you fall in, the player that you're interacting with will fall into one of these as well. Everyone will not fall into the same nor will it be a 50/50 so you end up splitting the community which is bad.
Here is what we have today:
those who chat and those who don't.
Those who party chat
Those who in-game chat, group, guild
It's already split so to add more options results in dividing your player base even more.
From Zenimax's point of view...this isn't the direction they want to go.
My opinion...it would be idiotic especially considering the option exists on another platform that has existed a year prior.
My opinions and argument may not make sense to ou but the logic behind your question and my answer is above.
Simply put, the goal of this game is to bring as many people together on one server as possible with one form of communication. The game design has a splitting or separating nature so to further split the population is not a good idea.
Communication is one of the most influential things about humans. Adding text chat isn't simply just putting a box in.
What languages will be needed vs the few that will complain their language is left out and how does the language get converted from one console to another?
Its not a PC

I can see why Xbox users would be against text chat with a ridiculous system like that.
On PS it's literally: press enter -> type message -> press enter. No onscreen keyboard pops up. You type directly in the chat box, just like PC.

Wrong ... ZOS stamped out gold sellers almost completely on the PC version, it will be even less likely on the console because not only can they ban the game account, the PS or Xbox account can be banned & even the console itself can be banned.

Then why do the other MMOs on consoles have gold spam if it were so easy to stop them?
