Me and about 15 friends started on release day, only 2 of us remain. I've added probly another 30 since. Maybe 10 of them still play. The fact that only 7% of the people who bought the game on ps4 have finished the lvl 45 storyline says alot.

I still do not understand why people think that adding text chat will destroy communication in the game. Text chat would not be implemented to replace voice chat. Voice chat would still exist and it would still be the main form of communication. So what is so wrong with having a way to reach people when they are not available through voice. When you are in a busy place and you can't talk on the phone don't you sent a text message? When you can't reach someone by calling don't you try sending them a text message? Text chat is not use to have long conversion, or use to give commands while running dungeons or PVP. Text chat is use to send quick phrase like LFG, Type X for group, Selling Imperial Motif 100k to the hundreds of people that you could never reach through voice. Text chat only help to increase the amount of socializing in this game. While some may think it will tear the community apart because some people will only be in voice and some only in text, the truth is that voice only is creating a void between player.

Right now there are thousands of player in this game and voice chat only lets you get to know a few. For the most part many people to not use area chat limiting them to communicating with the guilds there are in. Even some guilds are so large that it make it hard for those quieter player to be able to get a word out. Your guild is not going to fall apart if text chat was to be added. For the most part the people you communicate will still communicate with you, it is not as if everyone is going to stop talking.

If you are using voice chat and you don't want to talk you don't have to, but you still sit in voice channels to know what is going on. While if you don't want to type because it is too difficult for you then you don't have too. No one would be forcing player to use text chat. You can just read it if you fell like it or text chat could even be minimized for the player who fell it will ruin there immersion.

Thing could only get better with text chat.

It's so hard to organizing anything on console. Guilds feel like glorified contact lists. Trying to find other players to run with comes off as luck, more than anything else. I cannot help but feel with the minimalistic HUD, and lack of text chat that ESO on console is an MMO lacking key MMO features. It's just very off putting.

Text chat takes A LOT longer to type and read/respond compared to voice chat. My first observation in console BETa was while running around I met, grouped and played all at once. Quests, dungeons and trying to explain things was always done while playing. New dungeons took less of the time to play even explaining to brand new players.

Text chat as experienced on PC in closed BETa to launch took an average of 1-2 hours per reg dungeon. Console took 15-30 mins.

That is what voice chat is for. I'm sorry if this comes off bad, but one thing people have constantly repeated ad nausium is that no one wants to get rid of voice chat. Does this need to be said differently? Is there something you don't comprehend about "no one wants to get rid of voice chat" or "we want both?" It has its purposes, and what you describe here is one of them. And no one is debating that.

Again, sorry of this is mean sounding, but this argument keeps being made, and it really doesn't seem to make sence unless you don't understand those two phrases. :)

Actually if you follow this thread there are many who are asking for text chat in order to not have to use voice chat.
The belief that adding a feature that allows different groups to opt in and out of forms of communication will have a huge outcome on the game in a negative manner as it splits people. This was explained by Zenimax and was one of the reasons why text chat was scrapped during development.

It doesn't need to be said to me differently but perhaps your understanding of how human behavior and options work are causing you to not follow my comments.... or maybe just that I need to say this to you again differently. (Not meant to be rude, sorry if it comes off short)

The server population is split by three factions and within those three, normal, silver and gold questing zones.
Here is the result of adding text chat:

There are ppl that don't mind voice chat
There are those who do mind voice chat
There are those who don't like text chat
There are those who do like text chat
There are those who don't want to communicate at all
There are those who will swap between one or the other

^Depending on the category you fall in, the player that you're interacting with will fall into one of these as well. Everyone will not fall into the same nor will it be a 50/50 so you end up splitting the community which is bad.

Here is what we have today:
those who chat and those who don't.
    Those who party chat
Those who in-game chat, group, guild

It's already split so to add more options results in dividing your player base even more.

From Zenimax's point of view...this isn't the direction they want to go.
My opinion...it would be idiotic especially considering the option exists on another platform that has existed a year prior.

My opinions and argument may not make sense to ou but the logic behind your question and my answer is above.
Simply put, the goal of this game is to bring as many people together on one server as possible with one form of communication. The game design has a splitting or separating nature so to further split the population is not a good idea.

Communication is one of the most influential things about humans. Adding text chat isn't simply just putting a box in.
What languages will be needed vs the few that will complain their language is left out and how does the language get converted from one console to another?

Is there something wrong with you? I'm serious, i think you have serious delusions of grandeur.

No one wants to not use VOIP, it's basically best under certain circumstances... like dungeons and raids.. for everything else Chat box is superior in everyway.

You are still spouting crap and not helping the community, Please just stop..

I seriously do not understand why people would be against something being added to a game. As people have said nothing is being taken away yet people are so dead set against text chat? This isn't a very social game at the minute. I even have trouble having the guild members use the voip chat system as they prefere to use psn party chat anyway.

I personally will use both, text chat to help with recruitment to parties, trials and guilds as well as voip for guild activity and parry/trials as a main tank it's just so quick to use.

Most of them are only arguing because they like to argue and provoke a response, this is one of the threads that is a perfect platform for them as many posters feel very strongly about the thread topic.

The fact that the addition of optional text chat would cause absolutely zero issues for them makes them look even sillier and their attempts to justify not wanting it are laughable at best.

One or two of them will be along shortly to call me names and do a character assassination job on me, just to prove my point :)

.... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. Thank you for "nameplates", a welcome addition to immersion, as well as the text chat box for PS4, which only comes on the screen when I need it too, and helps this gameplay SO MUCH MORE then without it. THANK YOU for the additions. Very much appreciated.

Wow this thread is still going on? XD

Mate that's weak and you know it. lol Having different forms of communication doesn't keep people from interacting on a video game, I know it's your opinion, and you're entitled to it, but I think that argument is nonsense. There is a reason PC gamers use both, because each has their own strength. Yes it's not PC, but it's not like you're a different species or anything, I kind of feel like you're arguing simply to have an argument. They have already said they only support English/French/German as languages, so other languages are already 'left out'. They closed a Brazilian guild recruitment post because it was in Portuguese. I can literally think of NO reason it would cause a split and I've tried to see it from your perspective, I really have. I simply think if you're not just arguing for arguments sake, you're simply foreseeing a problem that won't really exist.

ZOS I'd assume will add text chat at some point if they feel enough players want it, or are willing to leave if they don't add it. This forum post seems to indicate at least that there are a large number of console players who seem to want it, and at least only a few people against it, and those people seem to have pretty weak arguments. I'm a PC player, but I ultimately want the console version to succeed as well, so we'll see what happens, hopefully ZoS does what is best to help with the new surge of players that have joined ESO.

I guess we'll see, if ZOS does add text chat, whether the doomsayers are right or not.

PS, not sure how I failed that quote so hard, sorry NewBlackSmurf. XD

I'm a 'brand new player'. Bought the game on pre-order for xbone a YEAR before release. I'm new to modern MMOs, minus about 2 days of WoW which was horrendous. I realize I could have bought this game on PC, but I hate playing games even on my fairly awesome PC. This game is great and after 6 weeks or so, I'm still not bored one bit. I even love voice chat, problem is, hardly one uses it correctly outside of group chat and that's mostly PvP or the random group encounter. The lack of communication is horrific. Group finder is a joke. The point of an MMO is the MULTIPLAYER aspect, no?

We NEED text chat. We need to be able to send clear concise messages across our zones. We need text to enable effective grouping and trading. We need text so we can help other new players learn the world of ESO. Make it a toggle, an option. Don't like it, don't use it, but at least acknowledge it has a place.

On PS it's literally: press enter -> type message -> press enter. No onscreen keyboard pops up. You type directly in the chat box, just like PC.

Works the same way on the Xbox One too, he was going out of his way to make it look difficult ... reason his keyboard wasn't responding is because he had the virtual keyboard up.

I had prove it to him months ago when he 1st started posting crap like that ... in Neverwinter Online on the Xbox One which he shows in that video text chat works by simply hitting enter, cursor pops in text window, type out message, hit enter again to send.

Gold spammers do not exist on PC. There was some problems when the game first launched but zos has done a great job of shutting down spammers. So while the initial launch of text will bring spammers we can count on zos to shut it down like on pc.

Wrong ... ZOS stamped out gold sellers almost completely on the PC version, it will be even less likely on the console because not only can they ban the game account, the PS or Xbox account can be banned & even the console itself can be banned.
