    I agree.

Again... I think everyone is missing the point,.. I'm not quite sure what it will take...

This isnt most console videogames... Its an MMORPG and a very pc based MMORPG on a console.. therefore it should be the same..
It requires text chat or it is just another single player/co-op game.

Other co-op console game like CoD that doesn't need text chat...

People here are completely missing the point and making null arguments as to why there shouldn't be text.. Why does it matter to you that much? If you don't want it, you don't have to use it TURN IT OFF.

So just help the discussion rather than shooting people down for wanting text chat.

Stop pillow biting ZoS for making a crappy port.

I'm really having trouble grasping why people are fighting against it, It has LITERALLY no impact on your gaming if you don't want it!

We aren't missing it...you're missing the point that isn't your own desire.
There are millions of people who would love to play MMO games IF
    -you could use a controller
    -you can use voice chat
-you don't need 78 things piping up on the screen.

To each its own...PC really works great for what you and many on this topic want. It actually works better than console for what you want and you can use a controller via Xpadder or Pinnacle (I've done so from Nov 2013- June 2015)

Why argue to force console players to play like PC players? They/we bought a console to play console games the way console games should be played. If they/we wanted text chat and stuff we would've bought this over a year ago on PC

    Right?

    Your still not getting it..
Clearly you have no idea what an mmorpg is..
Having text on screen will not destroy your gaming experience on a console, You don't even need use it.

As i said before way back when, I wanted it originally on console but it got delayed so played on PC. now its on console I thought well great, started it and hey wheres the chat.
This is not a game I want 10 year old shouting randomly on the only chat option "oooh your mum this, your mum that"
    Yeah VOIP is awesome......

I think people here have played Destiny and thinks... ooh this setup will work on this game... well look how well Destiny went down...

VOIP is not the be end all of games.. Most people would like the option of text chat..

I personally find constantly talking to people on a game gets annoying, And should only be used under the right circumstances like dungeons or raids..

    Right?
    "

Your logic makes no sense whatsoever.

First of all, YOU don't speak for all console players, you are just one person.
Second, who is trying to force anybody to play like PC players? What does that even mean?
An MMO has to have a text chat option, people who say otherwise are just newbies, they're new to the genre and don't know any better. They are content with what they have now, looks like you are one of those people. Congrats, keep enjoying the game. But as you can see, there's also a group of console players that want text chat.

He has an opinion and so do you. Each and every post here is opinion and nothing more.

His just make some people mad because he's got several, imo, valid points even if many don't like them, it doesn't Change their validity.

Why even reply to the post if it is so laughably wrong? Look at how angry some posters get. He may not speak for all console players, but his opinions reflect the majority of console players. There's a difference.

Text chat as a second screen experience is the perfect answer for old school key board cowboys and the majority of casual new to mmo players who would likely be overwhelmed by the flood of text spam.

You disagree. But you are just one opinion as well. Smurf must have some truth in what he's saying or many would just scroll past or ignore.

    When did I say otherwise?
The fact is, having text chat doesn't hurt anybody if it's an option that can be disabled at will, that is a FACT, not an opinion. I say again, A FACT! You can say whatever you want about his opinion reflecting the "majority" of console players, but the FACT is, he will not be affected by this feature. People who prefer voice chat will continue to use that as a way to communicate, text spam should not even be a concern for them, as they will surely have text chat disabled anyways. I replied to his post because i felt like it, why is this important to you?

Instead of coming together for your fellow gamers, you're doing the opposite and pretty much saying F U to the hardcore players who want a feature that should've been there in the first place.

I'm tagged so I hope it's OK to comment here:

Having a communication feature at launch may not hurt anything but that's not the situation.

ADDING another communication feature after a rating has been set, after parents have decided to allow underage gamers to play because XYZ reason regarding the absence of said feature or things like the changes in behaviors of players when there are multiple forms of communication that split the customer base within a console has a HUGE effect.

You may not realize this but It's not a fact as you comment. It's your opinion without any knowledge base or research
Far from fact but your opinions are welcomed.

    I just disagree

I do get it and let me share....
Your argument is that based on XYZ game that was labelled as an MMO where most are on another machine have a feature that you've grown accustomed to. Text chat isn't a MMO feature but rather a choice any developer may make to create their best approach to communication is said games.

Traditionally based on your comment MMoRPG games have
-20-80 abilities all displayed at once
-bars and column based action bars that exceed 5 abilities
-are played and released mainly on PC due to console limitations or console network limitations
-servers are region based and not globally massive like this game (some exceptions apply)
-typically never support game pad usage
-in some cases offer voice communication but in cases where only a few can participate in said channels unless handled by a third party app or program

This isn't that type of game. Everything or even some of the things that are present in many other MMORPG games by design are intentionally not apart of this game. The developers are literally trying to make TES work in an online environment that looks almost exactly like TES and will not resemble any MMORPG.

I won't go as far as to say you don't get it but I will say that you're attempt to argue that this game should contain features and elements from other MMO games is an odd one.

As each MMO game releases they often times are labelled XYZ clone. This game isn't a clone of one existing MMORPG especially on console

As customers have voted with their purchases...this is something millions want AS IS (regarding communication)
Considering the PC version offers a lot of what you comment...why did you buy for console knowing this?

If "pc-couch-gamers" will have textbox, why not console as well?

You must be referring to the poll conducted on these forums. The same forum trafficked by all the happy players and the majority of the player base. Oh? No? It was a poll of the opposite groups? Oh. Then I'm sure its super scientific.

Maybe a poll on the start up screen of the actual game would actually indicate something.

    I didn't say "upgrade", I said "buy".

The only PC in my house is my wife's old laptop that she only uses for facebook to keep in touch with her family.

I did pricing and such over a year ago because I was going to build (yeah, I biuld my own rigs to save money) a PC for ESO, and for a rig that wouldn't need even more cash dumped into it as the game grew over the first few years it was about $600.

I compared that to waiting for ESO to release on console, and did the math of getting a good 5 years out of the PS4 generation, and console came out cheaper.

And, when on a fixed income (disablility)...well...money matters . ;)

    @mrskinskull @NewBlacksmurf

I have to disagree about it being easy to join groups. The main problem is not the lack of text chat, but rather the difficulty coordinating at higher level this brings. Currently, the biggest grind of the game is coordinating groups for trials (and even vet dungeons).

Again, my issue isn't necessarily with not having text chat. Mine is an issue with not filling the gaps that not having text chat creates. Albeit probably unintentional, the two main gaps are:

-being able to communicate with more than one group at a time (have to constantly change between area, group, and each individual guild channel amongst your guilds)
-being able to easily form groups (given the issues with group finder)

The impacts aren't felt by the majority of the casual playerbase yet...however, will be once folks get through caldwell's gold. Once that occurs, you need to devote way more time than should be necessary to be able to tackle end-game content like trials. This time is shuffling through guild channels, sending mail and xbox messages to people in guilds that are not in guild chat channels, running through towns in area chat looking for people.

Once folks start getting through the story and caldwell's quests, the options for a casual really become creating an alt or just sticking to PVP.

I'm not saying that text chat is the only way to fix this, however, it is a way to bridge that gap with something that has been shown to work on the PC version of this game.

Why don't they just make text chat as a second screen feature it be a win win for everyone. The protexters get text chat and the players who don't want it on their screen gets its.Its a win win for everyone.

So your solution is to require players to have/buy a smart phone or tablet, which can cost more than the console they are playing on just to use a basic feature included ingame on every other MMORPG (both PC & console) ?

Really now This is something you can just Google yourself Majority of Americans now a days have a smart phone or tablet so they won't have to go out of their way to buy a new one. They can also make a website for you so call real MMO players can use your PC aswell for Text chat. Also this is a better solution that gives both sides what they want.If you want text chat you would have it if you don't you don't have to use the app or see it on screen.ZOS can make it .99¢ and make some money off of it that's the only way they will probably do it.

This is a terrible solution. A fix that requires the player to both leave the game and use 3rd party programs / websites in order to utilize the systems in the game is a failure of design, especially when those systems were 100% designed to be utilized from inside the game in the first place.

And most especially when there is already a version of the game that has been live for almost a year and half that requires no such bandaid fix.

While you may believe this to be a "reasonable" solution, many of use wholeheartedly disagree w/ such a sentiment.

How does picking up.your phone makes you leave the game?

If I'm typing on my phone, I'm most definitely not playing the game.

If you are typing on your keyboard, you are not playing the game.

Voice chat and a controller allow both communication AND gameplay at the same time on console.

    Mic drop.

If you're typing into the game on a keyboard, then yeah, you are playing the game. Disputing that just seems like being deliberately obtuse.

If your attention is removed entirely from the game and the screen to stare at a completely separate device that isn't bundled w/ your console, that you need to purchase separately and pay a completely separate monthly bill for usage, then you are NOT playing the game. You are playing on your phone.

And again, you don't need a keyboard. Many of us would probably use one for comfort / ease, but you absolutely do not need a physical keyboard to utilize an onscreen keyboard. I'm not even sure why you assume you would.

...or do you somehow plug a keyboard into your phone whenever you want to text for some reason?

You are splitting hairs to keep from arguing against yourself, lol.

Most modern games include some sort of second screen experience, its the same thing you are asking for except not old fashioned.

You want a model t and we could have a Ferrari.

This game was not created or designed to include a second screen experience. I'm not splitting anything.

What it IS designed to include is text-based communication, which is WHY people feel that a lot of the in-game systems on the console version are clunky.

I'm telling it the way it is and you don't like it.
That's not true the console version wasn't design with text based communication in mind if it was wouldn't it be here. They will have to redesign the game to add a text box why don't you guys understand that they can not just copy and paste a text box in its not possible.

A second screen option will likely be their solutions since it will gives both sides what they want. There also a business so they can make money from making a App instead of losing money from them having to redo the UI for a text box.

They don't have to redesign anything. Text chat box was in beta for console and they removed it weeks before release because of the "immersion" or lack thereof of.
.... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. Thank you for "nameplates", a welcome addition to immersion, as well as the text chat box for PS4, which only comes on the screen when I need it too, and helps this gameplay SO MUCH MORE then without it. THANK YOU for the additions. Very much appreciated.

Ha they locked my thread about them discriminating against the hearing-impaired because there is no text chat on console they just don't like it when it's the truth so they lock it before it gets attention they dont want it tarnishing the reputation

Or you know, you are a generic ranter and people gave you alternatives.

Does that make you a flamebaiter and troll since you followed him over here?

    Neither.

At the moment the alternative is to get the PC version (which is on sale on Steam btw), which includes the complete game. Although my hearing has been going the past few years, and my summer job last year resulted in further damage, I'm not complaining that I need to adjust the audio options now to fit my needs.

I am also suffering from various join issues, and only recently finally got a chiropractor, and awaiting blood testing to see if a former serious case of lymes disease is one of the causes (along with other possible causes). I'm at the point that writing, typing, etc. is a difficult task, but I'm not demanding ZOS to cater to me. I will also try to get disability at my university this semester due to the fact that I can barely finish exams / quizzes on time due to my joint pain.

But no, I'm just a baiter I guess because you said so.....

Play it on console see how you like it then you will know what i mean

I'd rather not use a sub-par system, thanks. This was made for PC, I beta tested for PC, I play on PC.

You have the choice remember, but you continue to blame ZOS. But as someone in your thread suggested, maybe you don't fully grasp the concept of "discrimination."

It's unfortunate that you are horribly representing players with disabilities. You should feel ashamed.

How about this, the PC version is any sports car, the console is a Honda Civic.

There are things in the sports car that you desire, whether it's specific features, etc., but you are complaining because you have a Honda Civic that doesn't have those features. They are both cars that get you from A to B, and fulfill the basic needs that all cars give.

Within this hypothetical situation, you have the ability to save up / purchase the sports car, but you'd rather complain about the Honda Civic and how it isn't a sports car. You get to the point of demanding people downgrade to get to your level because you are so insecure, etc.

Welcome to your side of this.

Wow. I'm only gonna say this once so get ready to copy and paste,

The PC master racer may have a few good points here.

    No. This is an mmorpg.

The PC version of the game is a Ferrari, yes. And the PS4 version of the game is a Civic, ok.. I get it. Problem is, when we bought Civic version, the damn Civic didn't have tires, wtf.
.... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. I think the post comments above sum it up ****because see a lot of those for text chat in this thread somehow feel that their opinions or suggestions of what should be added to the console game will have no change to others.

It does and if it didn't the feature would be present along with what exists.

    Please elaborate.

What changes will this force upon those who wish to continue playing w/ VOIP-only and simply turn off text-based communications? How would such a change adversely effect their gameplay?

We've laid out numerous reasons why its absence is effecting the quality of the game overall for many players currently. However, I see sentiment like you've posted here rather often, and I honestly have trouble understanding this viewpoint that an optional text-based communication feature would somehow be for the worse.

"Reasons" often include such statements as "PC has text, buy that instead" or "I don't like it", but none of these actually speak to the topic at hand, which is "how does this negatively effect YOU", w/ "you" being those who would be turning off text chat and sticking to VOIP.

I'm not bandwagoning anything; I'm fairly certain that I've voiced the same opinion since this conversation on the topic began, and generally only chime in when I feel that the discussion has either gotten way off-topic or additional clarification of what I believe is necessary to debunk fallacious claims.

You've often had trouble understanding that there is more than the binary "does it have text chat?" or "does it not have text chat?" discussion that drives purchasing decisions, though I've tried to explain some of the other factors of that decision as clearly as possible (I will admit that this may simply be a failure on my part to portray these factors).

Factors such as comfort (I like my sofa too), accessibility, location (my PS4 is in the living room, my PC is in my office), native controller support, monitor size (yes, my TV is a heck of a lot larger than my monitors and no, I'm not going to deprive the rest of the household of television just to play the PC version on it by moving it into my office), other friends who play on the console that I also wanted to play w/, etc.

That's why I, personally, bought the PS4 version. And also because I am not the type to rail against something w/out having even attempted to enjoy it.

I find the console version to be unnecessarily clunky to do very simple things that text-based chat would aid greatly in addition to the already included VOIP. Going back to the PC version exclusively means giving up playing w/ my PS4 friends and also going back to sitting by myself in the office as opposed to hanging out w/ my fiance in the living room, as well as no longer being able to utilize my very nice living room setup.

You see, it's not as cut and dry as "PC has text chat, go play that", no matter how much people wish to simplify the situation.

If anybody says this game would suck because it had text chat, they're lying to themselves. Nothing would be different. I'm done arguing with a bunch of casuals who are only against it for the hell of it. I'm on the PC side now, so screw it. Enjoy your anti-social single player MMO.

The one thats awesome, accessible to newcomers, easy to join guilds, groups, and just discuss stuff with random people in area chat while I am crafting? That one? The one that about a million people are loving minus six dudes from this thread?

    OK. We will.

    Have a great day ;)

    Accessible to newcomers?

Pvp is full of vet 14 with 150+ champion points already which is not welcoming to newcomers.

    Easy to join guilds?

No not really the guild recruitment forums are mainly guild traders which have no social aspect or stupid werewolf or vampire guilds where as soon as they get a bite they will jog on to the next guild. Only way to find a guild is hopefully be spammed an invite for a social guild of about 5 people.

    Easy to join groups?
You clearly haven't hut end game. Group finder is not the best, no text chat so can't arrange groups. Most dungeons won't be Completed by groups due to the casual mindset of using poor builds that just can't out dps/tank or heal in any vet 14 dungeon. Or take over 2 hours to clear wayrest sewers.

Discuss stuff in area chat with random people?

Mostly turned off due to hearing every man and his dog (literally) breath fart or burp down the mic or arguing with their mum about their bed time or failing that hearing them washing the dishes, background music from the game or random conversations going on in the background of them.

    It's time for text chat...

How does text chat address the concern tho?
Is text chat the issue or instead the issue that you may be lacking a guild or circle of friends readily available for encounters.
As we all play as we play there are many different ways to address this.

Text chat is just a means of communication. Text chat is available just not as a text box on the game screen.
Posting on the forums or posting on an Xbox activity feed using a smart phone or whatever offers this.

When on PC if I'm doing something and don't wan to be bothered I turn off general chats and sometimes all text chat. So text chat is only effective to those open and using it.
On console now I turn off all voice chat and don't look at my feed on smartglass via Xbox app.
Same as the text chat situation.

There's the grouping tools too that don't seem to be at the level of functionality and have the options many desire but it's there. If people use it when you're using it...it groups pretty efficiently as far as finding complete strangers.

text chat....it's just a form of communication.

On PC there is no native voice chat. The same argument could be made in reverse.
Think outside of the norm and don't limit yourself. There are more options to communicate widely on console than PC based on how Sony and Xbox's communities and social options are built.

    Different but more...
I scroll through a lot of threads and often feel that's it's Us...WE that are the issue. Myself even, we are creatures of habit and less willing to adjust to have fun.

In contrast on consoles the younger gamers adjust very fast and seem to overly enjoy and meet ppl very often seldom lay without 2-4 ppl. I'm maybe old as or older than you but I think the options exist now...we just aren't using them the right way and at the right times.

Ah, I see you've declined to elaborate upon your previous statement regarding how the addition of text-based chat would adversely effect the game for those who opt to turn text chat off yet again.

On PC, there will be native voice chat. This has been talked about a few times in the past, as well as native PC controller support.

So no, the same argument actually can not be made in reverse, because in the end PC will have access to controller, VOIP, text, keyboard, etc. Console will only have access to controller and VOIP.

This is why I've continually called it an inferior product for the same box price, which is simply unfair considering that it was a design decision and not an actual technical limitation that caused text-based chat to be removed from console versions.

Text chat or adding it is like suggesting to bring pay phones back instead of using cell phones because....pay phones are how communication was done back then.

Think of this...text chat was there because in early and many MMO games there was a need to create macros and use many back slash commands. Dial connections and slow upload/download speeds which also drop call n respond gameplay

Technology THANk GOD has moved beyond this....

Are you sure you want to go backwards...it almost like choosing to walk up to someone and send them a text msg vs just speaking.

To use your analogy, it's like suggesting to bring back wired phones because cell phone technology currently only reaches a small area at a time for some reason and won't actually let you call people across the country or even just the city.

Technology may have moved beyond this, but for some reason ESO communication has not.

The game is already backwards. Let's reach the LEAST amount of people as possible when communicating, and let's call it "innovative and new"!

Yeah, I'm not fooled. I can see the man behind the curtain.

In truth, I'm the one advocating for cell phone technology. You're the guy advocating that we go back to using 2 tin cans and a string.

It's in other responses. Not avoiding you but it didn't think it was logical to re type it
But in short.....ADDING a new form of communication after game ESRB ratings and info is placed on the box is one MAJOR change that happens.

Another is player interactions and the speed of play.
Text chat takes A LOT longer to type and read/respond compared to voice chat. My first observation in console BETa was while running around I met, grouped and played all at once. Quests, dungeons and trying to explain things was always done while playing. New dungeons took less of the time to play even explaining to brand new players.

Text chat as experienced on PC in closed BETa to launch took an average of 1-2 hours per reg dungeon. Console took 15-30 mins.

ADDIng in text boxes does also require reworking of the UI. You can't just simply throw a box up. It has to work and work with options and settings. It has to have me us but also be seen in menus and NPC infractions, it can't hide voice chat pop-ups or the enlarged UI for console. It wouldn't really work in the bottom right or left and the top right and left obstruct play viewing or grouping UI.
The time it takes to rework all of that is better spent on content IMO

AND...the next part of your comments...to me continues to cause me to ask over and over again.
iF all the features and functionalities are being added to PC why not just play on PC. It's literally being added to offer a customized experience.

Console games never offer a fully customized experience and for logical reason.

To me the thread just justifies a reason for many to go back to PC if that's the forms of communication you desire.
And by many comments here their definition of a MMO is what the PC version offers.

It is what it is...and it's working just fine on console as well as the options for PC.
Pick your platform based on how you want to play and go with what's offered.

    Simple...
