I agree.

It requires text chat or it is just another single player/co-op game.
Other co-op console game like CoD that doesn't need text chat...
People here are completely missing the point and making null arguments as to why there shouldn't be text.. Why does it matter to you that much? If you don't want it, you don't have to use it TURN IT OFF.
So just help the discussion rather than shooting people down for wanting text chat.
Stop pillow biting ZoS for making a crappy port.
I'm really having trouble grasping why people are fighting against it, It has LITERALLY no impact on your gaming if you don't want it!
We aren't missing it...you're missing the point that isn't your own desire.
There are millions of people who would love to play MMO games IF
-you could use a controller
-you can use voice chat
-you don't need 78 things piping up on the screen.
To each its own...PC really works great for what you and many on this topic want. It actually works better than console for what you want and you can use a controller via Xpadder or Pinnacle (I've done so from Nov 2013- June 2015)
Why argue to force console players to play like PC players? They/we bought a console to play console games the way console games should be played. If they/we wanted text chat and stuff we would've bought this over a year ago on PC
Right?

Your logic makes no sense whatsoever.
First of all, YOU don't speak for all console players, you are just one person.
Second, who is trying to force anybody to play like PC players? What does that even mean?
An MMO has to have a text chat option, people who say otherwise are just newbies, they're new to the genre and don't know any better. They are content with what they have now, looks like you are one of those people. Congrats, keep enjoying the game. But as you can see, there's also a group of console players that want text chat.
He has an opinion and so do you. Each and every post here is opinion and nothing more.
His just make some people mad because he's got several, imo, valid points even if many don't like them, it doesn't Change their validity.
Why even reply to the post if it is so laughably wrong? Look at how angry some posters get. He may not speak for all console players, but his opinions reflect the majority of console players. There's a difference.
Text chat as a second screen experience is the perfect answer for old school key board cowboys and the majority of casual new to mmo players who would likely be overwhelmed by the flood of text spam.
You disagree. But you are just one opinion as well. Smurf must have some truth in what he's saying or many would just scroll past or ignore.
When did I say otherwise?
The fact is, having text chat doesn't hurt anybody if it's an option that can be disabled at will, that is a FACT, not an opinion. I say again, A FACT! You can say whatever you want about his opinion reflecting the "majority" of console players, but the FACT is, he will not be affected by this feature. People who prefer voice chat will continue to use that as a way to communicate, text spam should not even be a concern for them, as they will surely have text chat disabled anyways. I replied to his post because i felt like it, why is this important to you?
Instead of coming together for your fellow gamers, you're doing the opposite and pretty much saying F U to the hardcore players who want a feature that should've been there in the first place.

Right?
Your still not getting it..
Clearly you have no idea what an mmorpg is..
Having text on screen will not destroy your gaming experience on a console, You don't even need use it.
As i said before way back when, I wanted it originally on console but it got delayed so played on PC. now its on console I thought well great, started it and hey wheres the chat.
This is not a game I want 10 year old shouting randomly on the only chat option "oooh your mum this, your mum that"
Yeah VOIP is awesome......
I think people here have played Destiny and thinks... ooh this setup will work on this game... well look how well Destiny went down...
VOIP is not the be end all of games.. Most people would like the option of text chat..
I personally find constantly talking to people on a game gets annoying, And should only be used under the right circumstances like dungeons or raids..

They just said on "Live at QuakeCon" that Controller is being added to PC version for "the people that like their couch-pc-gaming"...so, now what excuse for no textchat on console?
If "pc-couch-gamers" will have textbox, why not console as well?

OK. We will.

It was on here:
Some "slightly overweight" guy was talking about "quality of life" imporvements coming up.
I just caught the end of it myself.
But, it sounds like they are working on some good things...at least for the PC crowd.
On PC when you want to use a controller you just pick up the controller and it switches the entire UI to controller mode, and when you touch your mouse it changes to mouse UI...they are already doing it in their offices, and the dude says it works good but is still "beta".
I just want equality between the two platforms.
I just upgraded to PS4 ONLY to play ESO, I cannot afford another $600 to buy a PC for the only reason being lack of textchat.

Thnx...but $600 is a lot to just upgrade a PC for this game no?
Kinda overkill
That's not true the console version wasn't design with text based communication in mind if it was wouldn't it be here. They will have to redesign the game to add a text box why don't you guys understand that they can not just copy and paste a text box in its not possible.mrskinskull wrote: »mrskinskull wrote: »Mirra_Halfelven wrote: »Why don't they just make text chat as a second screen feature it be a win win for everyone. The protexters get text chat and the players who don't want it on their screen gets its.Its a win win for everyone.
So your solution is to require players to have/buy a smart phone or tablet, which can cost more than the console they are playing on just to use a basic feature included ingame on every other MMORPG (both PC & console) ?
Really now This is something you can just Google yourself Majority of Americans now a days have a smart phone or tablet so they won't have to go out of their way to buy a new one. They can also make a website for you so call real MMO players can use your PC aswell for Text chat. Also this is a better solution that gives both sides what they want.If you want text chat you would have it if you don't you don't have to use the app or see it on screen.ZOS can make it .99¢ and make some money off of it that's the only way they will probably do it.
This is a terrible solution. A fix that requires the player to both leave the game and use 3rd party programs / websites in order to utilize the systems in the game is a failure of design, especially when those systems were 100% designed to be utilized from inside the game in the first place.
And most especially when there is already a version of the game that has been live for almost a year and half that requires no such bandaid fix.
While you may believe this to be a "reasonable" solution, many of use wholeheartedly disagree w/ such a sentiment.
How does picking up.your phone makes you leave the game?
If I'm typing on my phone, I'm most definitely not playing the game.
If you are typing on your keyboard, you are not playing the game.
Voice chat and a controller allow both communication AND gameplay at the same time on console.
Mic drop.
If you're typing into the game on a keyboard, then yeah, you are playing the game. Disputing that just seems like being deliberately obtuse.
If your attention is removed entirely from the game and the screen to stare at a completely separate device that isn't bundled w/ your console, that you need to purchase separately and pay a completely separate monthly bill for usage, then you are NOT playing the game. You are playing on your phone.
And again, you don't need a keyboard. Many of us would probably use one for comfort / ease, but you absolutely do not need a physical keyboard to utilize an onscreen keyboard. I'm not even sure why you assume you would.
...or do you somehow plug a keyboard into your phone whenever you want to text for some reason?
You are splitting hairs to keep from arguing against yourself, lol.
Most modern games include some sort of second screen experience, its the same thing you are asking for except not old fashioned.
You want a model t and we could have a Ferrari.
This game was not created or designed to include a second screen experience. I'm not splitting anything.
What it IS designed to include is text-based communication, which is WHY people feel that a lot of the in-game systems on the console version are clunky.
I'm telling it the way it is and you don't like it.
A second screen option will likely be their solutions since it will gives both sides what they want. There also a business so they can make money from making a App instead of losing money from them having to redo the UI for a text box.

Or you know, you are a generic ranter and people gave you alternatives.
Does that make you a flamebaiter and troll since you followed him over here?
Neither.
At the moment the alternative is to get the PC version (which is on sale on Steam btw), which includes the complete game. Although my hearing has been going the past few years, and my summer job last year resulted in further damage, I'm not complaining that I need to adjust the audio options now to fit my needs.
I am also suffering from various join issues, and only recently finally got a chiropractor, and awaiting blood testing to see if a former serious case of lymes disease is one of the causes (along with other possible causes). I'm at the point that writing, typing, etc. is a difficult task, but I'm not demanding ZOS to cater to me. I will also try to get disability at my university this semester due to the fact that I can barely finish exams / quizzes on time due to my joint pain.
But no, I'm just a baiter I guess because you said so.....
Play it on console see how you like it then you will know what i mean
I'd rather not use a sub-par system, thanks. This was made for PC, I beta tested for PC, I play on PC.
You have the choice remember, but you continue to blame ZOS. But as someone in your thread suggested, maybe you don't fully grasp the concept of "discrimination."
It's unfortunate that you are horribly representing players with disabilities. You should feel ashamed.
How about this, the PC version is any sports car, the console is a Honda Civic.
There are things in the sports car that you desire, whether it's specific features, etc., but you are complaining because you have a Honda Civic that doesn't have those features. They are both cars that get you from A to B, and fulfill the basic needs that all cars give.
Within this hypothetical situation, you have the ability to save up / purchase the sports car, but you'd rather complain about the Honda Civic and how it isn't a sports car. You get to the point of demanding people downgrade to get to your level because you are so insecure, etc.
Welcome to your side of this.
Wow. I'm only gonna say this once so get ready to copy and paste,
The PC master racer may have a few good points here.
NewBlacksmurf wrote: »I think the post comments above sum it up ****because see a lot of those for text chat in this thread somehow feel that their opinions or suggestions of what should be added to the console game will have no change to others.
It does and if it didn't the feature would be present along with what exists.

@mrskinskull @NewBlacksmurf
I have to disagree about it being easy to join groups. The main problem is not the lack of text chat, but rather the difficulty coordinating at higher level this brings. Currently, the biggest grind of the game is coordinating groups for trials (and even vet dungeons).
Again, my issue isn't necessarily with not having text chat. Mine is an issue with not filling the gaps that not having text chat creates. Albeit probably unintentional, the two main gaps are:
-being able to communicate with more than one group at a time (have to constantly change between area, group, and each individual guild channel amongst your guilds)
-being able to easily form groups (given the issues with group finder)
The impacts aren't felt by the majority of the casual playerbase yet...however, will be once folks get through caldwell's gold. Once that occurs, you need to devote way more time than should be necessary to be able to tackle end-game content like trials. This time is shuffling through guild channels, sending mail and xbox messages to people in guilds that are not in guild chat channels, running through towns in area chat looking for people.
Once folks start getting through the story and caldwell's quests, the options for a casual really become creating an alt or just sticking to PVP.
I'm not saying that text chat is the only way to fix this, however, it is a way to bridge that gap with something that has been shown to work on the PC version of this game.
NewBlacksmurf wrote: »How does text chat address the concern tho?
Is text chat the issue or instead the issue that you may be lacking a guild or circle of friends readily available for encounters.
As we all play as we play there are many different ways to address this.
Text chat is just a means of communication. Text chat is available just not as a text box on the game screen.
Posting on the forums or posting on an Xbox activity feed using a smart phone or whatever offers this.
When on PC if I'm doing something and don't wan to be bothered I turn off general chats and sometimes all text chat.
On console now I turn off all voice chat and don't look at my feed on smartglass via Xbox app.
There's the grouping tools too that don't seem to be at the level of functionality and have the options many desire but text chat....it's just a form of communication.
On PC there is no native voice chat. The same argument could be made in reverse.
Think outside of the norm and don't limit yourself. There are more options to communicate widely on console than PC based on how Sony and Xbox's communities and social options are built.
Different but more
NewBlacksmurf wrote: »Text chat or adding it is like suggesting to bring pay phones back instead of using cell phones because....pay phones are how communication was done back then.
Think of this...text chat was there because in early and many MMO games there was a need to create macros and use many back slash commands. Dial connections and slow upload/download speeds which also drop call n respond gameplay
Technology THANk GOD has moved beyond this....
Are you sure you want to go backwards...it almost like choosing to walk up to someone and send them a text msg vs just speaking.

Ah, I see you've declined to elaborate upon your previous statement regarding how the addition of text-based chat would adversely effect the game for those who opt to turn text chat off yet again.
On PC, there will be native voice chat. This has been talked about a few times in the past, as well as native PC controller support.
So no, the same argument actually can not be made in reverse, because in the end PC will have access to controller, VOIP, text, keyboard, etc. Console will only have access to controller and VOIP.
This is why I've continually called it an inferior product for the same box price, which is simply unfair considering that it was a design decision and not an actual technical limitation that caused text-based chat to be removed from console versions.
