Console text chat discussion

If they add text chat to consoles, great, but people were warned well ahead that that feature was not going to be on console.

I am very content on playing ESO as a solo/SP game thanks to the no text chat. It has actually made most of my solo play interesting as I had to learn how to solo world bosses/anchors, learn which skills are best to help solo content.

This MMORPG is the best single player game ive ever played, it really like just having random NPCs running around that randomly do things or help you at world bosses or anchors.

The game will crash and burn then...

Because they failed to add a fundamental part of any mmo... Oh well i really wanted to play this on my console.. And i shan't be returning to it on PC.

Also you can already use a keyboard and mouse on both xbox one and ps4.... I already use it. And mouse and keyboard on FF ARR....

You may be right but MY opinion is the game will not crash and burn due to text chat. The consoles have more active players than PC which could be an argument against adding text chat.

Let's be honest...the PC gets updates first, has add-on support, customized controls, AND as you all desire...Text chat

All that but still far less active players (*based on what is reported)

Only time will tell but the game IF it falls apart will be more so due to lack of content and a terrible endgame concept rather than any decisions on how communication occurs.

    Well said.

Also I want to point out that Zos included the option to remove yourself from area chat.

Albeit every time you enter a map,.

I happen to love this and am fine with it but if past is precedent,
Zos would include an option to toggle a text chat box off after each and every map change.

A few people can't take the voice chat. Casual players on console, the lions share of player base, would be annoyed for no good reason.

When the majority of players on console decide they want it, maybe it will happen. This thread will likely have no bearing on that decision.

I really think there should be a new text chat option or "zone chat" under the social tab in the menu. Eso desperately needs it. I consider the main reason being that the group finder tool is virtually pointless for finding a group under the "world" section. You may be able to find a group in an hour or so and i would say it's a one in a million chance of them actually being interested in what you want to do. It would be great to be able to type I quick message saying lfg "_____" and then wait for an invite to come through.

P.S. I I'm writing this post as I sit on a never ending load screen. 15 minutes and still counting. I would exit the game and start it up again but that would mean another 30+ minutes queu to get back into cyrodiil "this may be an unusually long load time"
Just exit, close the app and rlog into the Sam character, you will instalog back in just fine.

The more I play this game on the XBOX the less and less I miss text chat.

I am now leaning toward better option on switching to different chat channels faster. Would be nice if I could get Kinect commands to go from one chat channel to the other.

So your solution is to require players to have/buy a smart phone or tablet, which can cost more than the console they are playing on just to use a basic feature included ingame on every other MMORPG (both PC & console) ?

Really now This is something you can just Google yourself Majority of Americans now a days have a smart phone or tablet so they won't have to go out of their way to buy a new one. They can also make a website for you so call real MMO players can use your PC aswell for Text chat. Also this is a better solution that gives both sides what they want.If you want text chat you would have it if you don't you don't have to use the app or see it on screen.ZOS can make it .99¢ and make some money off of it that's the only way they will probably do it.

This is a terrible solution. A fix that requires the player to both leave the game and use 3rd party programs / websites in order to utilize the systems in the game is a failure of design, especially when those systems were 100% designed to be utilized from inside the game in the first place.

And most especially when there is already a version of the game that has been live for almost a year and half that requires no such bandaid fix.

While you may believe this to be a "reasonable" solution, many of use wholeheartedly disagree w/ such a sentiment.

How does picking up.your phone makes you leave the game?

If I'm typing on my phone, I'm most definitely not playing the game.

If you are typing on your keyboard, you are not playing the game.

Voice chat and a controller allow both communication AND gameplay at the same time on console.

    Mic drop.

If you're typing into the game on a keyboard, then yeah, you are playing the game. Disputing that just seems like being deliberately obtuse.

If your attention is removed entirely from the game and the screen to stare at a completely separate device that isn't bundled w/ your console, that you need to purchase separately and pay a completely separate monthly bill for usage, then you are NOT playing the game. You are playing on your phone.

And again, you don't need a keyboard. Many of us would probably use one for comfort / ease, but you absolutely do not need a physical keyboard to utilize an onscreen keyboard. I'm not even sure why you assume you would.

...or do you somehow plug a keyboard into your phone whenever you want to text for some reason?

You are splitting hairs to keep from arguing against yourself, lol.

Most modern games include some sort of second screen experience, its the same thing you are asking for except not old fashioned.

You want a model t and we could have a Ferrari.

This game was not created or designed to include a second screen experience. I'm not splitting anything.

What it IS designed to include is text-based communication, which is WHY people feel that a lot of the in-game systems on the console version are clunky.

I'm telling it the way it is and you don't like it.

They also stated its not being considered to be added.

Again, link the quote. I don't need your interpretation of what was said, as we both know you've been so very dead wrong about your interpretations in the past.

Remember when you were so very certain that the console version would ship w/ a text chatbox (usable through an on-screen keyboard, you said) and argued w/ me for 15 pages about your misinterpretation of what the devs told us, even though their statement was pretty blatantly the opposite?

    I do.
if you watch the two ESO live shows again...they actually say it's not being considered.

That's actually not what they say at all. They say "it probably won't be a straight text box". That's not the same thing, and "probably" most certainly does not mean "not being considered".

Please stop saying "they actually say" things that they actually never said.
It's why I keep posting that in these threads because for whatever reason their response to continue forum discussions and feedback was somehow misinterpreted that this is being considered.

Strange, the only misinterpretations I've seen thus far are from you. <.<

That's not true the console version wasn't design with text based communication in mind if it was wouldn't it be here. They will have to redesign the game to add a text box why don't you guys understand that they can not just copy and paste a text box in its not possible.

A second screen option will likely be their solutions since it will gives both sides what they want. There also a business so they can make money from making a App instead of losing money from them having to redo the UI for a text box.

Ok slowly here..people have told you and anyone who has watched this game prior to release on console has seem it stated..

Text chat WAS IN GAME on console..they took it out because the lead dev guy said he didnt feel comfy sittin on the couch with a keyboard..it was tested in game on console just in a closed in house beta prior to the open beta...

As far as 2nd screen junk..that is as bad as addons and is why were here to begin with addons makes Dev's lazy peiord..look at guild bank stacking it was well know on pc way before console launched..they didnt fix it they allowed a addon to do there job..Now its on console but we dont get addons so one of the devs needs to end his coffee break and do some work

Ha they locked my thread about them discriminating against the hearing-impaired because there is no text chat on console they just don't like it when it's the truth so they lock it before it gets attention they dont want it tarnishing the reputation

Or you know, you are a generic ranter and people gave you alternatives.

Does that make you a flamebaiter and troll since you followed him over here?

    Neither.

At the moment the alternative is to get the PC version (which is on sale on Steam btw), which includes the complete game. Although my hearing has been going the past few years, and my summer job last year resulted in further damage, I'm not complaining that I need to adjust the audio options now to fit my needs.

I am also suffering from various join issues, and only recently finally got a chiropractor, and awaiting blood testing to see if a former serious case of lymes disease is one of the causes (along with other possible causes). I'm at the point that writing, typing, etc. is a difficult task, but I'm not demanding ZOS to cater to me. I will also try to get disability at my university this semester due to the fact that I can barely finish exams / quizzes on time due to my joint pain.

But no, I'm just a baiter I guess because you said so.....

Play it on console see how you like it then you will know what i mean

I'd rather not use a sub-par system, thanks. This was made for PC, I beta tested for PC, I play on PC.

You have the choice remember, but you continue to blame ZOS. But as someone in your thread suggested, maybe you don't fully grasp the concept of "discrimination."

It's unfortunate that you are horribly representing players with disabilities. You should feel ashamed.

How about this, the PC version is any sports car, the console is a Honda Civic.

There are things in the sports car that you desire, whether it's specific features, etc., but you are complaining because you have a Honda Civic that doesn't have those features. They are both cars that get you from A to B, and fulfill the basic needs that all cars give.

Within this hypothetical situation, you have the ability to save up / purchase the sports car, but you'd rather complain about the Honda Civic and how it isn't a sports car. You get to the point of demanding people downgrade to get to your level because you are so insecure, etc.

Welcome to your side of this.

Wow. I'm only gonna say this once so get ready to copy and paste,

The PC master racer may have a few good points here.

Im confused. If you dont play on Console..Why are you weighing in on the issue? I know its a forum and you have the freedom to do so. Im just confused as to why you would have the interest, to bother posting in here if not to follow that guy....At this point you can only detract from the topic since you have nothing to lose or gain here.

As for your physical issues. Im quite sure ZOS has stated they are looking into introducing VOIP for PC.

So you can sit here and claim not to be a troll. But your behavior so far is the complete opposite.

Because they feel like they are a special snowflake? They could have done some basic research to see that it was well-known that consoles lack certain convenience features. Their previous thread proved that they lack personal responsibility, and would rather point fingers and yell "discrimination!"

As someone who also suffers from various issues, I find it disgusting that they are giving poor impressions of those with disabilities.

Being called a troll because of common sense? Ok. I guess there are a ton of "trolls" here then. But hey, you're the one calling me names for just posting honestly, so maybe I should suggest that you might be the real troll here.

Are you new to consoles? Not intended insultingly. Many recent console games have included second screen experiences, such as destiny ( inventory management, lore, comma etc.), battlefield has two ( commander mode which is awesome and battle log which includes comms load out stuff and guild stuff), fallout 4 is including a second screen inventory and stat app, watchdogs had a really cool app that allowed other players to play adversarial mode with you.

I like that you disagree. Its fine but any recent console player who sees this portion of the debate would realize simple in game text chat is a missed opportunity for a kick butt second screen experience.

Zos wants you to have the game close at hand at all times, I would imagine, most game designers would like this. Manage your inventory while at work or let your guild know what mats you have etc. This is superior.

And I think the ambiguity in zos not addressing text stuff directly implies the second screen experience is how they will address this issue. IMO obviously, note how the thread is curated but not addressed.

I actually can't wait for them to release the app.

No one is missing your point. We hear you and disagree with your opinion.

As far as an onscreen text box being toggled off, the voice chat can be toggled off but that would need to be done regularly.

I will not tolerate doing that for a niche concern like text chat.

Not when a second screen app gives all parties exactly what they want and has room to offer more opportunities.

    Cheers.

There are millions of people who would love to play MMO games IF
    -you could use a controller
    -you can use voice chat
-you don't need 78 things piping up on the screen.

To each its own...PC really works great for what you and many on this topic want. It actually works better than console for what you want and you can use a controller via Xpadder or Pinnacle (I've done so from Nov 2013- June 2015)

Why argue to force console players to play like PC players? They/we bought a console to play console games the way console games should be played. If they/we wanted text chat and stuff we would've bought this over a year ago on PC

Are you new to consoles? Not intended insultingly. Many recent console games have included second screen experiences, such as destiny ( inventory management, lore, comma etc.), battlefield has two ( commander mode which is awesome and battle log which includes comms load out stuff and guild stuff), fallout 4 is including a second screen inventory and stat app, watchdogs had a really cool app that allowed other players to play adversarial mode with you.

lol, new to consoles, that's cute. Let's just say that I'm old and have been playing games all my life.

See, the part that you seem to be confusing w/ those other examples is that ESO is mostly just a port of the PC version w/ a new UI, controller support, VOIP, and worse graphics.

When I say that THIS game was designed w/ text chat in mind, that's because the entire base game was meant to be supported by text-based communications. When they removed it, they did not CHANGE any of those base systems to now work naturally w/ VOIP, they just shoehorned in VOIP and hoped for the best.

It'd be a different story if they actually did redesign these systems to work mainly w/ VOIP or a second screen, like Destiny and other games, but unfortunately they simply did not.

And now those base systems are clunky to use. And now here I am complaining that a finely designed game was bandaid fixed and shipped and has created an inferior experience to that which exists on PC.

Wanna talk the car analogy? Sure, a ferrari and civic are both different, but they should probably both include A/C. Unfortunately, if you're riding in the Civic this summer, you're just gonna have to roll down your windows and hope for the best.

Why don't they just make text chat as a second screen feature it be a win win for everyone. The protexters get text chat and the players who don't want it on their screen gets its.Its a win win for everyone.

Yup. Zos was probably planning on an app and hoping people would cheer for the idea in this thread. What do they see instead of enthusiasm for an app answer to their problem? A lot of people qq and claiming they left over it but for some strange reason still post regularly on this forum.
I have seen many of the pro text crowd shoot down the app idea which is probably the only way this will happen.

Why even bother patching this in when most players who want text have walked off anyway?

There's still a thriving console base to rely on.

Your logic makes no sense whatsoever.

First of all, YOU don't speak for all console players, you are just one person.
Second, who is trying to force anybody to play like PC players? What does that even mean?
An MMO has to have a text chat option, people who say otherwise are just newbies, they're new to the genre and don't know any better. They are content with what they have now, looks like you are one of those people. Congrats, keep enjoying the game. But as you can see, there's also a group of console players that want text chat.

I will not tolerate doing that for a niche concern like text chat.

Not when a second screen app gives all parties exactly what they want and has room to offer more opportunities.

    Cheers.

You don't have to do that at all on the PC. You minimize it, it stays minimized. You are just assuming that it would be as half-arsed as VOIP was done for the consoles.

Also, a second screen app is just what YOU think what all parties want. I don't want it. Others have already said that they also don't want it. I'm not really sure what makes you KEEP thinking that all parties want it when people have expressed the exact opposite.
Why argue to force console players to play like PC players?

The only ones arguing to "force" anything are those who are arguing to force everyone to play through VOIP-only. Those who want text chat are literally only asking for everyone to have options.

You, my friend, are arguing for everyone to have none.

His just make some people mad because he's got several, imo, valid points even if many don't like them, it doesn't Change their validity.

Why even reply to the post if it is so laughably wrong? Look at how angry some posters get. He may not speak for all console players, but his opinions reflect the majority of console players. There's a difference.

Text chat as a second screen experience is the perfect answer for old school key board cowboys and the majority of casual new to mmo players who would likely be overwhelmed by the flood of text spam.

You disagree. But you are just one opinion as well. Smurf must have some truth in what he's saying or many would just scroll past or ignore.

I think the post comments above sum it up ****because see a lot of those for text chat in this thread somehow feel that their opinions or suggestions of what should be added to the console game will have no change to others.

It does and if it didn't the feature would be present along with what exists.
The comment above also from the very thoughtful poster points out what I've been saying since April...valid points that you may disagree with are still valid points. I've even stated many times the valid points to have it added are valid BUT neither give reason to add a feature that the company has decided not to build into their game.

Bumping and creating new threads on the same topic for what's now been over three months to satisfy your opinion but fighting any opinions with valid points in opposition as you say is also "trying to force others to play" a certain way is just weird or questionable at best. Opinions are opinions...discussions, yeah fine but that's as far as it goes.

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone who was involved in the multiple closed threads on this topic in April, why did they still buy the game?

This is a serious question because many in this thread knew well before release this wasn't going to be added and still purchased and are trying to bandwagon threads to stay at the top.

But somehow I'm the problem.....very interesting point of view you have.

Those are mmoFPS try console mmooRPG games DCUO and FFxi are both MMORPG"S on console ...both have in game text..this game is a port from pc not a new game...text was in the game on CONSOLE they tested and said he thought it felt funny using a keyboard on the couch which is dumb..all we want is what most MMORPG players have cometo expect from games of this genere..

be like taking out scopes from fps and saying meh felt odd looking thru my glasses thru the scope so i took it out

So if your gonna argue console games recently try using games in the same genere please not fps or puzzle or hello kitty island adventure

73 pages ZOS WE DO NOT REALLY NEED TEXT CHAT..

Please don't imply that all of the various pro and co threads that have been bundled here prove anything but many people have way too much time to complain and debate. theres really very few unique posters here and we all post a bunch of long posts mostly just repeating messages in a cyclical debate.

Go back through the entire thread and collect each unique pro and con and compile them into a list and this thread would be one page.

The fact is, having text chat doesn't hurt anybody if it's an option that can be disabled at will, that is a FACT, not an opinion. I say again, A FACT! You can say whatever you want about his opinion reflecting the "majority" of console players, but the FACT is, he will not be affected by this feature. People who prefer voice chat will continue to use that as a way to communicate, text spam should not even be a concern for them, as they will surely have text chat disabled anyways.
