Give me an option so I dont' have to see all that annoying text scrolling across my screen and I'm in.
Every game that has a Chat box has the ability to hide it... This just tells me you are not a MMO gamer and only used to single player console games... Which is the problem... New people to this actually don't know whats good for them or what they are missing out on.
Or maybe you are new to console and have no idea that almost every console game that supports multiplayer does so with voice chat only.
Yeah, this guy is one hundred percent correct.
I say call a poll of actual players at the boot screen of ESO.
No biased forum polls skewed and conducted by one side or the other.
I say cater to the actual gamers playing the game.
So many people have claimed they left the game over this matter, I think that means zos should cater to the players actually playing the game, as in the 99 percent of players who didn't even notice the text box status because most people don't want a DMV vision test from across their living room every time some gold farmer wants to move some product.
The text for ESO was enlarged for consoles. The tiny PC text was fine right next to the PC player.
The text box on console would likely end up having to be enlarged about 40 percent from PC as well.
What is that going to look like?
Multiplayer <> MMORPG. Text chat in Killzone or any other FPS? Yeah...no.
FF:ARR and DCUO? Well...it's kinda there by default.
I'm not really sure where games like Destiny fit...but they seem more voice chatty to me for some reason.
The problem with catering to the actual players, is that you lose any perspective around who is leaving and what would keep them engaged.
Pro-text chat guy: Hey ZOS, you know you could expand your player base if you added text chat like those other MMORPGS?
ZOS: Nah, too much like hard work. We'll just cater to the existing player base....who cares about the players who leave or those who want to play but just get put off by the lack of text chat. We don't need their stinking money anyway.
Existing player base? The Existing Player base is asking for this, the rest are casuals. The Vast majority won't reach Veteran Rank 14.
Read your last sentence. The vast majority won't reach vet 14, when text chat actually becomes helpful.
The vast majority are the casuals who will never need text, won't bother with purchasing a keyboard and sacrificing one of the two usbs on a ps4.
There's only two usbs!
One for controller. One for turtle beach thingy.
The developers may be more pragmatic than you give them credit for.
I'm casual and I will buy the next dlc. And the one after that.
No keyboard, cause I'm all about that ( casual customer) base.
Why don't they just make text chat as a second screen feature it be a win win for everyone. The protexters get text chat and the players who don't want it on their screen gets its.Its a win win for everyone.

So your solution is to require players to have/buy a smart phone or tablet, which can cost more than the console they are playing on just to use a basic feature included ingame on every other MMORPG (both PC & console) ?

Really now This is something you can just Google yourself Majority of Americans now a days have a smart phone or tablet so they won't have to go out of their way to buy a new one. They can also make a website for you so call real MMO players can use your PC aswell for Text chat. Also this is a better solution that gives both sides what they want.If you want text chat you would have it if you don't you don't have to use the app or see it on screen.ZOS can make it .99¢ and make some money off of it that's the only way they will probably do it.

Really if they offer an app I think that would be best for them. They wouldn't have to worry about a chatbox tying up the screen. The only issue for an app to me is that if the game has so many bugs and takes long time to fix how long will bugs on apps take. At the least they could just give everyone an option of either voice or chatbox....that is really all people want now.Mirra_Halfelven wrote: »Mirra_Halfelven wrote: »Why don't they just make text chat as a second screen feature it be a win win for everyone. The protexters get text chat and the players who don't want it on their screen gets its.Its a win win for everyone.

That makes no sense ... it would be the same as releasing a game on the console with no controler support but the Dev's saying "Oh you can play this game but you'll need a smart phone or tablet to do anything"
So instead of asking people to jump through hoops, get apps, smart phones, or tablets ... how about just adding text chat back in with the options to hide/turn it off? I mean its already in the PC version of ESO, and the PC version is getting both voice chat & controler support, wouldn't you expect the same features on ALL versions of ESO to be the same?

I rarely see people with flip phones anymore. Im not saying that people should have to use an app out side of the game. Its ZOS that needs to fix this. But smart phones are the norm now.

Wow. Didn't even think about the second screen! That's so SMART! No one has thought about..... wait, what? .... Oh yea, that's right..... FFXIV LET'S YOU DO THAT ALREADY.......... ............ so does DCUO. Man, ZOS really messed up this game.

Ya it's an option which is really nice but, they still have in game chat so you don't have to juggle between them if you dont want to & they aren't required for text chat either.

What you make no sense they can not just copy and paste text chat into the game it will take way longer to implement a text box into the game then to make a App for players to communicate through. You example makes no sense at all it wouldn't be a console game then woulf it?So i most ask what is you logic behind your statement.
Also your second paragraph makes no sense. Can you please retype it?
I guess your saying that it's easier to just add it back into the game then make a app in reality its not. They have to redo the UI for them to implement it they Can't just flip a switch of press a button and its in that's not the case.If it was am pretty sure they would have press that button to add by now. Also no one will be jumping through hoops most people have smart phones or a tablet or even a computer.Maybe not one good enough to play the PC version but one good enough to download a App or at least go to a web page. Also to download a App takes no time at all it takes less then a minute to download a App.It be faster quicker and easier for more players to use.Trust me You all say what's wrong with having more options this would give you guys more options and you saying no.Your being a hypocrite you say you want more options but when someone post a way for you to have what you you jump on him because its different then what you want.Hav you every used ESOtoolkit they can also add features from that their two makes the game for Console Ayers so much easier.

Actualy it would be basicly flipping a switch ... text chat was in the console version of ESO till they took it out just before the beta, they have all those UI set-ups & text chat assets just sitting around somewhere on one of thier servers.
They removed it for stupid reasons, the lead console UI dev gave this reason on ESO live as to why they took it out ..."it felt awkward sitting on a couch with a keyboard in my lap" .

I agree that there should be at least an option for chat. Sometimes it is just easier to use the chat for finding people or sales. I dont think that it would change much of the aspects in the game. Especially if it were an option.

If they ever release a text chat function, please let players disable and enable as they want. I like the UI as it is
Also, I hope voice chat keeps being default, cause it is very nice

Don't know if this has been suggested but in this day and age everyone has a smart phone why not make an application for console to chat as I personally would find it easier to communicate this way than using a PS4/XBOX controller.
