I can enter a psn party make it private and never have to hear area chat. I can join a group and be in a secluded voice chat, same with guild.
There is no private party for my eyes. If it auto toggles on and forces me to close it each time, that could be an issue.
Can I get a PC player to confirm this isn't the case. As an analog example.
Grouping for dungeons is next to impossible without text chat. They either need to add this or re-create a working group finder otherwise they will loose PvE players very quickly. They have managed to get by with a shoddy group finder on PC because there is an alternative way of grouping (text chat). They don't have that option on console so they can't sit back and do nothing.

I like the voice chat. If it had a quick mute then it would be perfect.I know most are good about self monitoring but you do run into the occasional mouth breather, family room on Kinect or DJ idiot. If you could quickly mute them it would be great.
Text chat is beyond cumbersome on a console. Keyboard takes up half the screen and entering just a few words with a joystick is slow. It would prove to be nothing more than annoying screen clutter and if it was something you could turn off then everyone would and it would be no different than people without mics. I think I is just a loud minority of PC players that feel there is a need for text chat on consoles.
I vote no. My screen is busy enough. I can build up my friends and guild list with people that do talk and which I enjoying playing and conversing with. Text chat is just another means to spam innocent players and even more likely to lead to that. At least with voice chat I can see who is spamming by the circle over their head.

Bro don't you have a couple buds to run it with? Text chat or not, if running dungeons with complete random is your plan maybe that's why its not fun. Run it with guild mates. I can't walk ten feet without being spaam invited to a guild.
Sometimes the worst players are really funny in voice chat and kind of make the whole dungeon a hoot.
Six hours seems excessive.
