This is not meant as any form of advice. It's meant as an anecdote saying it may happen in a game and that it is no stranger than in school, in a supermarket, via Facebook or any other way of meeting. This is, quite frankly, really terrible advice. What does that make me? I met my wife in WoW 11 years ago without even trying, it just clicked. We've been together since, now happily married since 6 years.AhPook_Is_Here wrote: »The sadness of people trying to find love in a video game and finding sausage instead would make Buddha laugh.

Why do people judge on this? If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Life happens irrespective of prejudice. Why wouldn't one be interested in meeting a significant other that has similar interest in spare time activities?
I might be alone in this, but I look at my character's arms, not her ass. She really has lovely arms. It's a shame that as a tank, she has so few opportunities to show them.
Back in vanilla wow I played a female human warrior on the Moonglade server(had friends that were into RP that wanted to play there, dont RP myself but enjoyed the added immersion and met alot of awesome people) and I met this guy paladin that was extremely nice and awesome and we tagged along from low level all the way up for months. We never RPed or really spoke other then gameplay stuffs.
One day he bought me this epic sword and a few days later he asked me if I really was a girl. And I told him that no I wasnt and why he asked... He logged out never to be seen again.
I lost what I though was a real gamer pal that day and learned that some take games far to seriously. I will never play a female char in an RP enviroment again lol.
Lol since when have games been thought of as acceptable dating/looking for date interaction?

That's very sad. I almost want to buy you a gift now.

Girls in game gets more treat from fellow guildies, more popular and advance in guild hierarchy faster. A lot of guild die because they choose officers by popularity and not by suitabilty. Girls are popular from day 1. A guy have to proove he is useful.
Theres a stereotype that girls in gaming are nicer but that's not true. They are the same race: human and there are just as many not nice girl as guy.
Want to be an officer or just extremely popular in a guild?
- Post an unknown teen modells picture on the guild forum.
- Mention in guild chat that you not used to these games cos u r a girl
You will get more advice, people will be more patient with you with your mistakes, they will not try to lecture you how to play your game. You will get more bargains, free stuff, presents, you may win the guild lottery more etc.
You think this is miserable? I think it is but I know many player doing this. Even real girls doing this by not realizing they really using their gender to gain popularity.
Playing the other gender in a role playing game has never been my cup of tea. I know all the excuses. I heard it all. Boys don't play with dolls period. (No! Not that kind of period.) But that's just my conservative nature. I can take it that other people think else.
In MMO's I don't care what gender is the player I met. Onyl thing I usually ask is nationallity (for language barriers). And threads like looking for girl guild and how many girl gamer...
Come on!
I would like to think that most "real girls" at least *women* (I'm 35) want nothing to do with any of that. Maybe a young teenage girl who hasn't quite found herself yet or needs attention, but most female gamers I've talked to just want to *game on*
If a guild wants to be anything more serious than social and are giving out officer(s) based on popularity alone, they are doomed to fail anyway (imo)

They typical response seems to have been "so?" or "no one cares".Unless it's guild/friend chat, then I'll mention I'm female to avoid the awkward situation when you know someone for a year and assume they're male, only to discover by accident that they are, in fact, a woman. It's so much easier in my native language with gendered verbs.
I don't throw out my gender or shove it down people's throats, but I have no problems identifying myself as a female.
Awhile back, on this forum, someone called me out because of my forum name. They felt like it was a "cry for attention" or some such nonsense because I put the word "girl" in it.
What made that interesting is the forum name I originally wanted wasn't available. I contacted Zeni's CS and they told me why, then suggested I submit a few possibilities for them to check. I submitted three, of which only one had the word "girl" in it. Zeni then chose this name for me and that's how I got it.
But I did choose the name - and I didn't think more than a half a second about doing it. Why shouldn't I be able to identify myself as a girl in the same way that a man might identify himself as an ironman or a superman or caveman or whatever. And if I do that, and then someone insists upon calling me a guy (because that's oh so funny right?), then yes, I'll probably correct them and I still won't think more than a second about it.

Honestly? I've had more interaction with, and know more about, some of my guy friends who I've met in this game than some of the guys who have hit on me in bars or on airplane flights.
The only real difference in games is we communicate and play together for a bit before we do the big visual reveal, which I find oddly comforting. When a guy I don't know starts hitting on me on an airplane flight, I feel like I pretty much know what he likes about me.

LOL!!! I read that and had this visual pop into my mind:
Man sitting next to me on an airplane says, "Excuse me, your peanuts are looking particularly enticing."

A gaming spouse is an awesome spouse.(Same for GF/BF). If you can't share what you love, what's the point, right?

Well, dang, he's pretty, of course you want to follow him around!
Of course
But back on subject, and not being male I could be wrong, but I always figured this was the reason why so many males play female characters. Why not have a 'pretty' and/or otherwise attractive character that you would want to follow around for many hours? I dont see anything weird about this at all..
Honestly I probably dont think much about whether that large muscular hairy nord guy in front of me is actually a female, or whether that pretty petite young bosmer girl is actually a guy. It really just doesnt matter to me, I deal with each character as they are presented in game and thats all..

Just keep in mind that women make up just little less than half of gaming consumers, so it's unfair to assume women are like diamonds on this game or something.

In my experience it seems to be like maybe 10% are actually women. Where did you find that statistic? I'm sure my experience could be completely skewed.

Darn, late to this thread. Will be fun to scroll through. :-)
I don't have any guy characters; I think it's weird if a girl chooses to make a guy character, but it's more weird to me when guys make girl characters.
edit: lotta typos today, lol
