What does that make me? I met my wife in WoW 11 years ago without even trying, it just clicked. We've been together since, now happily married since 6 years.

Morale of the story? Stop searching and it may happen?
This is, quite frankly, really terrible advice.
This is not meant as any form of advice. It's meant as an anecdote saying it may happen in a game and that it is no stranger than in school, in a supermarket, via Facebook or any other way of meeting.

Why do people judge on this? If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Life happens irrespective of prejudice. Why wouldn't one be interested in meeting a significant other that has similar interest in spare time activities?

I've seen quite a few suggestions about meeting people in supermarkets, or laundromats, but I always wondered how the heck would you approach someone in that environment?

"Hey, those are some nice melons you have there!" *slap*

So I guess selecting your words carefully would be a start ;)

Seriously I would feel like a creep if I said anything resembling conversation to a stranger there.

I have a dunmer female, first character I rolled up and this was early in my ESO gaming - she isn't the prettiest gal by any means, but she has the most attractive walk I have ever seen. Sometimes I slow her from run (most of my characters run most of the time) just to show it off (I mostly game with my husband, but hey, I admit I'm watching her too).

Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Your gender doesn't matter unless you want to use it.

Girls in game gets more treat from fellow guildies, more popular and advance in guild hierarchy faster. A lot of guild die because they choose officers by popularity and not by suitabilty. Girls are popular from day 1. A guy have to proove he is useful.
Theres a stereotype that girls in gaming are nicer but that's not true. They are the same race: human and there are just as many not nice girl as guy.

Want to be an officer or just extremely popular in a guild?

    - Post an unknown teen modells picture on the guild forum.
    - Mention in guild chat that you not used to these games cos u r a girl

You will get more advice, people will be more patient with you with your mistakes, they will not try to lecture you how to play your game. You will get more bargains, free stuff, presents, you may win the guild lottery more etc.

You think this is miserable? I think it is but I know many player doing this. Even real girls doing this by not realizing they really using their gender to gain popularity.

Playing the other gender in a role playing game has never been my cup of tea. I know all the excuses. I heard it all. Boys don't play with dolls period. (No! Not that kind of period.) But that's just my conservative nature. I can take it that other people think else.

In MMO's I don't care what gender is the player I met. Onyl thing I usually ask is nationallity (for language barriers). And threads like looking for girl guild and how many girl gamer...
    Come on!

I would like to think that most "real girls" at least *women* (I'm 35) want nothing to do with any of that. Maybe a young teenage girl who hasn't quite found herself yet or needs attention, but most female gamers I've talked to just want to *game on*

If a guild wants to be anything more serious than social and are giving out officer(s) based on popularity alone, they are doomed to fail anyway (imo)

I've noticed a few folks in zone chat making "corrections" when someone calls them dude, or man, and they're female. They typical response seems to have been "so?" or "no one cares".
I stopped correcting people. I guess I adopted their "who cares?" attitude. :) Unless it's guild/friend chat, then I'll mention I'm female to avoid the awkward situation when you know someone for a year and assume they're male, only to discover by accident that they are, in fact, a woman. It's so much easier in my native language with gendered verbs.

I don't throw out my gender or shove it down people's throats, but I have no problems identifying myself as a female.

Awhile back, on this forum, someone called me out because of my forum name. They felt like it was a "cry for attention" or some such nonsense because I put the word "girl" in it.

What made that interesting is the forum name I originally wanted wasn't available. I contacted Zeni's CS and they told me why, then suggested I submit a few possibilities for them to check. I submitted three, of which only one had the word "girl" in it. Zeni then chose this name for me and that's how I got it.

But I did choose the name - and I didn't think more than a half a second about doing it. Why shouldn't I be able to identify myself as a girl in the same way that a man might identify himself as an ironman or a superman or caveman or whatever. And if I do that, and then someone insists upon calling me a guy (because that's oh so funny right?), then yes, I'll probably correct them and I still won't think more than a second about it. :)

It's a trap! an attempt to shame into silence if you will. For instance someone I'm arguing with keeps calling me "bro" and I set him straight that I'm not a "bro" and stop calling me that....then he changes tactics to "oh you just want to be treated special" blah blah.... it's simply to avoid the fact they were losing the point and want to shame instead

however, the key answer to this may simply be to refer to everyone you meet along the way as female, even after they say otherwise (the annoying ones that is)
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

I'm actually really shy and intimidated in games and in real life I make a living in front of crowds of people singing and performing. It's weird. When ever I play games I always feel like I am invading other peoples space that somehow understand that world more than I ever will. I have a hard time talking to anyone in a game at all mush less worry about if they are a man or woman. My girlfriend asked me the other day why I don't talk to anyone and thought it was weird I can get in front of groups of people and give my heart and soul yet am scared to talk to people on a video game.

The only real difference in games is we communicate and play together for a bit before we do the big visual reveal, which I find oddly comforting. When a guy I don't know starts hitting on me on an airplane flight, I feel like I pretty much know what he likes about me.

I'm a male and my main is a female. The reason for me is that it's far more interesting when I'm creating the character to see if I can make a really pretty female than some dude. It's awkward and stupid when male characters (presumably played by males) "hit on" the toon. I mean seriously guys, even if the person sitting at the computer controlling the character was a female, she probably wouldn't look like the toon anyway!

Well, dang, he's pretty, of course you want to follow him around!

    Of course :)
But back on subject, and not being male I could be wrong, but I always figured this was the reason why so many males play female characters. Why not have a 'pretty' and/or otherwise attractive character that you would want to follow around for many hours? I dont see anything weird about this at all..
Honestly I probably dont think much about whether that large muscular hairy nord guy in front of me is actually a female, or whether that pretty petite young bosmer girl is actually a guy. It really just doesnt matter to me, I deal with each character as they are presented in game and thats all..

When I was playing Dragon's Dogma I made myself female but my pawn was a gorgeous hunk of man because easy on the eyes is better than ugly.

I always make myself young and pretty in a game (and an elf if that is possible) because I am living a fantasy. I always turn off chat so I don't know about any questionable comments. I'm on console now though and I think it has to cause some problems for the guys who want to play gals because it is hard to believe that some of their gamer tags can be attached to a female character without having some disconnect. I was following a big Nord with a horned helmet the other night who's gamer tag was BigBalz4U. Just imagine if he was a cute wood elf. I mean really, the mind boggles.

Another note, that I just thought of, is that there is a benefit to playing a female character. I have noticed a significant increase in others helping me with content or giving me better prices in trading when I am on a female character in games. So thank you, white knights -- I appreciate someone tagging along to help out with world bosses wherever I go.

And considering I typically ignore all chats unless I want something, I don't have to deal with the downside of harassment.

Darn, late to this thread. Will be fun to scroll through. :-)

I don't have any guy characters; I think it's weird if a girl chooses to make a guy character, but it's more weird to me when guys make girl characters.

    edit: lotta typos today, lol

Why? In TESO, I'm creating a female character (recreating actually since I'm a little more familiar now) and I want her to be a sorcerer. I've always played mages as females in all the ES games. It's just a little thing for me.

I love playing male melee characters as well as female melee characters, but with mages/sorcerers, for some reason I almost always play female.

And, of course they have to be drop-dead. I have never in all my years created any male of female character that wasn't easy on the eyes.
