You will get more advice, people will be more patient with you with your mistakes, they will not try to lecture you how to play your game. You will get more bargains, free stuff, presents, you may win the guild lottery more etc.

You think this is miserable? I think it is but I know many player doing this. Even real girls doing this by not realizing they really using their gender to gain popularity.

Playing the other gender in a role playing game has never been my cup of tea. I know all the excuses. I heard it all. Boys don't play with dolls period. (No! Not that kind of period.) But that's just my conservative nature. I can take it that other people think else.

In MMO's I don't care what gender is the player I met. Only thing I usually ask is nationallity (for language barriers). And threads like looking for girl guild and how many girl gamer...
    Come on!

I would like to think that most "real girls" at least *women* (I'm 35) want nothing to do with any of that. Maybe a young teenage girl who hasn't quite found herself yet or needs attention, but most female gamers I've talked to just want to *game on*

If a guild wants to be anything more serious than social and are giving out officer(s) based on popularity alone, they are doomed to fail anyway (imo)

Edit:35 in Oct lol, getting old enough to forget my own darn age :p

Totally agree with you Psychobunni. I could care less about the gender of the person I am playing with. I only care about whether or not they are having a good time, and if we are teaming up to do a delve, Public or Group dungeon, if they have enough knowledge and experience on how to defeat the enemies, and if not, how good they are at following another persons instructions without getting bent outta shape.

Though I do find it completely hilarious because most people I have grouped up with have assumed I am a "dude".

But yeah, most "women" want nothing to do with the popularity contests that are some Guilds, let alone dating guilds.. like wtf? no thanks. I would prefer to stick with a guild that would rather help every player out to have a good time.

So to answer your initial question.

    Female. 37.

I play both female and male characters. I alternate between them.
So far my favs Merrick and Dyvvia.

Wait... dating guilds are a thing? I had no idea haha

When Dungeons n Dragons Online launched in EU .. i mean very first launched and was a sub game, someone asked male/female mix for a survey and waaaaaay back then female's was close to male's

This 'female gamer' stuff is usually just someone after the attention (we actually don't give a rats if female) or trying to get the female's don't game rubbish going (whether for kicks or what never sure)
ZoS please understand everyone thinks and pronounces things differently, so please add to your 'rules' that things get removed if the Mod doesn't actually quite understand phrasing

I'm a woman and I only play female characters. I don't fully roleplay my characters, but they all have a backstory and personality. I simply find it too difficult to properly relate to a male character .

I like making my characters attractive looking, but not overly so. When I first joined this game over a year ago, my first character seemed to be "too pretty" because she got some unwanted attention. My current main has heard only one very weird suggestion in game, but that was an exception, not a rule.

But I am not excluding the possibility that sometimes I get treated more "gently" when people realise I'm a female in real life as well. Sometimes it feels I'm not expected to perform quite as highly as male players - or that at least my mistakes can be more easily overlooked and forgiven. I don't know if that's a good thing or sexism - I guess it depends on how you look at it. But I personally don't find it offending. Sometimes a little amusing, most times just polite. I don't want to be patronised, of course, but it doesn't really go that far. :)

For your informations the Female Gamer is not something rare and precious like 10 years ago.
There is lots, lots and lots of female gamer playing The Elder Scrolls Online (and other MMO) and they have as many different profiles than man playings the game.
We may still be outnumbered, but not as much as before. :)

So you cold make an anonymous poll like "

    - Guy that pretends to be a Girl
    - Girl that pretends to be a Guy
    - Girl that plays a Girl

I'd like to see those numbers
I take offense at this. I am a guy and never pretend anything else, who only plays female toons out of personal preference. If this poll is done, please have the options be "guy playing girl" and vice versa, without the jaded and derogatory inflection shown here.

I have been playing MMO's for the last 10 years. I have seen more woman who started to play. But woman play male characters and man play female characters. I personally mix it, but most of my characters are female (whil I'm a male in real life). I know some people oppose to that. My reaction is that it is my choice to do so.

My reason is that I prefer playing in third person. So I am looking to my character all the time. And as a man I prefer looking at woman more.

come to think of it. I prefer big black female characters.......hmmmmm, maybe I am nuts ;)

Reality is that it is a game. Don't asume that a male character is a male and a female character is a female. Just become friends and find out sooner or later. If you don't have time for that, you clearly have some issues ;)

I don't fully understand why this is important to some people.

I'm a male and I play a lot and different kind of games, usually I take a male character as my main or most played character. Most of the times it's all about the armor and how it looks (example my main on Destiny is a male Titan, I really dislike the female armor for Titans, my Hunter and Warlock are females though because I just hate how the male armor looks on those).

I make friends when people are nice, polite, mature and we have same interest in games. I couldn't care less if they are male, female or what gender they're playing.

I am a woman. My only character in this game so far is a woman.

The reason I chose a woman is because I wanted to try and identify with this particular character and make them a fantasy extension of my idealised self. It was something I had not tried before and I found that actually didn’t work out. I am used to roleplaying and they always felt like their own person, not me. So I now have a back story for them, and have gone back to my usual way of playing. In other MMOs I have bother female and male characters and I will in this game too once I have got to the point of wanting an alt.

Interesting fact in all other MMOs I have played where I have tried to roleplay as a female character people have told me I do not make a very convincing woman. It has been suggested that I should speak to some female friends to get a better idea about how women think! That was a little bit off putting to say the least, especially getting that same comment more than once, it was the only roleplaying comment I have received that actually knocked me in real life. Looking back I think it showed that there are still strong stereotypes of how woman are expected to behave and we do not all meet the mould others think we should.

I played many many MMO and can honestly say I've never created a female character. First, because I'm - well a man. Second, because I'm not a weirdo. Honestly don't know why so many guys make female characters. Something weird about that.

I'm curious if you think it's weird for women to create male characters if you think it's weird for men to make female characters?

Honestly haven't thought about that. Just coming from a man's perspective I don't get it. I mean, it's a toon. And that mainly goes to the guys that like to look at their female toons. That's just weird. That's worse than the ones who have a fascination with Jessica Rabbitt.

Well, it's not always a bad thing.
I am all for gender equality and would never look at a woman as inferior in any way, but I was also taught as a boy to treat a woman like a queen, to always open the door for her or to offer to pay off the dinner bill etc etc. You know... the classic.
And not because a woman can't do it herself - no, if she insists - i'm not going to refuse, but because it's a polite thing to do and to make her feel special. Gender defining features is not to be mixed with gender equality like some feminists make it out to be. It's just a nice thing to do, but people tend to take it too far. I remember my ex-girlfriend took great offense when i tried to open the door for her. She shouted stuff like: "What, do you think i can't do it myself? I don't need someone to do it for me!"
And I was like "Bloody hell, i was only trying to be nice, hoping you would take the hint that i actually like you enough to do something like this for you.."
But hey - each to their own.
My wife loves being treated with love and feel like a queen and that's all that matters to me now.

Ok... I'm a male. 27 years old, European, and web-designer.

If the game allows me to create a very ugly monster/alien type, that's the character I create.

If not, then, if third-person I usually play with a female character. Because, if I have to look the back of a person during large periods of time, I prefer to look a woman's back. You know

If the game is first person, then I'm a male. Because... I'm a male XD. Look myself in a mirror from a first person perspective and find a woman... It's weird XD.

In TESO I played some time with an argonian Nightblade but at the end I finally ending playing with a breton sorceress (third person) or with an Imperial Nightblade assassin (in first person).

While I do feel this 'poll' is a bit intrusive:

I am neither female, elven, arcanically inclined (well, maybe a little), nor vampire IRL. ;)

To be fair, regarding at least one Alt (my original Main), I am also not a giant Cat IRL and I do not have a large ring through my nose.

The female choice (my character and myself are completely separate - I do not try to convince anyone I am something I'm not) was based on a handful of things:
    • The original intent was to use the Ring of Mara with a friend of mine, his character was already made.
    • With rare exception, they did a much better job with the female aesthetics than they did with the male, IMO.
    • In the standalone games, there were bonuses and penalties for the various sexes. Females tended to be more Athletic and Acrobatic, for instance - both useful traits to have a bit higher at first, while taking a Strength penalty.
    • It's an RP fantasy game. Why would you not make your character something you can never possibly be?

Honestly this really only affects Nords and Orcs.

While there are some beautiful Nord women out there, I figure I don't tread on territory where someone could out drink me or out arm wrestle me, let alone both at the same time...

And with Orcs, it honestly just comes down to which one's got the biggest....er...sword arm. (I wouldn't recommend arguing with any Orc about their gender, either way...just nod politely and back away slowly.)

What's the old saying: Where the Men are men... and the women are too. :D

I have heard of people making female alts to be more approachable or to get free stuff (not making this up).

In the grand scheme of things, unless you're trying to convince someone you're something you're not, I don't know why it should matter one way or the other. It's a game. Be what you want to be!

    ^ This. ^

It really doesn't matter what we as the gamers have between our legs or what gender characters we play - as long as we all have fun with it. Why is someone 'weird' if they play the opposite gender or even the same gender? We'd certainly all be pretty boring if we were the same.

I play males for the same reason a lot of men play females - I play in 3rd-person and I'd rather look at the opposite sex. I'm a straight woman, so that's normal. My husband plays mostly males and he plays in 1st-person (and usually orcs because he loves orcs!)

In my ES modding days, a lot of hate was flung at me because I made mods for mostly male characters and quite often very sexualized ones. Those same haters were dribbling all over female mods in the same vein. I became so sick of the double standards - it was ok to see women almost wearing a bit of armoured string, but definitely NOT ok to see a man in something similar.

Yet at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter what someone wanted in their game. Hating on me was pointless - just don't use the mods and go back to the female stuff. Games for me are about having fun, enjoying escapism from a dreary real life, and stopping my elderly brain from melting!

Games are for fun. Play whatever you want to play as. :)
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.
