They didn't merge those "best bits" very well though, unfortunately. They messed it up BIG TIME.

You're right Crumpy they didn't, and I didn't say they did, but they tried anyway.

I still like the game even after logging almost 2000 hours into it since April. It's just the game isn't on par with what I expect from an Elder Scrolls title.

When I played Skyrim, I was playing because of the wow factor; there seemed to be a surprise around every bend in the road. Quests didn't depend on quest givers and quest hubs. You could just grab something that was part of a quest that you haven't been given yet, and later in the game you find out that you already done the quest when talking to the quest giver; you don't have to go back and do everything related to the quest again.

When I play ESO, I play mostly to get the achievements, nothing more. Quests are strictly linear in structure, and not really fun to do.

But you are right in the end.

I think part of the problem is that the game is ESO. It's an Elder Scrolls game so it had a built in player base. Because of this, some people are willing to forgive some of the bugs because elder scrolls.

But that's the same reason some people are harder on it. Because elder scrolls.

I think some people are just grateful to have an elder scrolls game and their technical standards might be a little lower because they appreciate the game and whatever.

And then the other side has higher standards because it's a game joining the Elder Scrolls family; why didn't they work harder or whatever?

Both sides have a point. The game is playable. It's probably hard to fix stuff.

But shouldn't they test more? Offer an easier way to test, like allowing you to move a live character to PTS? Give more gold on PTS so you can respec tons and test different builds for fun, which in turn helps them see side effects?

I'm not a computer science person, but I have helped troubleshoot simple code for someone, and what I can say is in testing there's a chance most things lead to the result you want but one action you do might not, so it's best to test everything. I put in a whole bunch of commands and helped a friend on his homework, and ESO should be more like that. It's probably harder though because ESO is trying to balance adding new content while figuring out what to fix.

Yup. Polski said: "I think some people are just grateful to have an elder scrolls game and their technical standards might be a little lower..."

That 'just grateful' part is EXACTLY why we are thrown a dry bone here and there.

The ZOS dev staff is awesome. Its quite obvious there is no dearth of talent or experience.

With that said, and regardless of all the back and forth, all the 'eh, just avoid the bugs/problems by being creative and figuring out your own player fixes' or 'look, they are WORKING on it'...

Its just apparent, patently clear, TESO is not there yet. If you can find parts of the game to entertain you until it gets 'there', then great. But its super frustrating for some players to have to mess around all the time just getting the game to let them even log in or stay logged in, and then to face the still-broken abilities/skills/mechanics when they try to play.

You can say ZOS released it 'too soon', you can claim its unique and they are awesome and will get it 'fixed' someday. The list o-p put on here is NOT even close to the regular, almost everyday occurrence for some players of game-stopping bugs.

None of us knows if in fact the suits have decided that the churn of players leaving vs incoming new, even if shorter duration, subs is renumerative enough to them to spend the least amount of money possible while seeking profit. None of us know the manpower limitations the staff has to work with either.

Bottom line is most players just want to look forward to their gaming time, hop in and have some fun and not have to be disappointed that they have to spend time trying to figure out how to get their game to even play, instead of enjoying that gaming period.

In the words of Edward R. Murrow: "Difficulty is the excuse history never accepts."

Actually, over the past few months I have come to the conclusion that the programmers writing the code for this game are either way too few and overworked, inexperienced or just plain bad at their job.

A single core pinning at 100% load with other cores more or less idle, memory leaks, constant lag spikes, horrible UI designs, serious database glitches, failure to find the cause of grave errors for months, an originally very naive security model (or a lack of one) that came back to bite them, all this points to a lack of talent and/or experience, not an abundance of it. The problem is both with the design and the execution.

    Good game. Horrible code.
