To many people with sore toes in this forums. If people cant take when people diagree with them they shouldnt be posting stuff in the first place.
If people want to be lazy and only provide agree & disagree why not let them?
its equally dumb to have the agree, awesome & insightful(especially this one) to use without people havto explain to why they agree?

Adding a dislike button would prevent confusion as to which posts people find legitimately funny, and which ones people think are downright ridiculous. It would also turn every post into a poll, letting you gauge the popularity of people's ideas that are posted here.

No.
If you disagree with someone, explain yourself. If you don't care enough to explain yourself or if you don't have a decent argument, then clearly there's no need for anyone to know about your disagreement.
I disagree because we have 4 ways to agree with a click, but no way to disagree with a click.
Honest feedback helps you even if all of it isn't positive. Plus you shouldn't be afraid to stand alone when others disagree with you.
Since the button was removed because of the trolling, it seems changing button mechanics would be better than removing it. Maybe an independent thinker badge that adds to your forum score, or something similar.
Notice that in order to disagree with me, you had to actually provide a counter-argument.
If I just agree with something you say, there's no need for me to waste board space with "+1" or "I agree" or "^^^". If I agree, I can just click on agree. But if I disagree, then that means I need to make an argument against the post. Otherwise, what good does it do to see that disagreement? It simply shows that I'm too lazy to post an argument or that I don't have one.
Or the gamefaqs forums. Oh gawd. i asked a question about over clocking, and was nearly linched. The only other time ive felt that unwelcome, I was driving through the middle of nowhere in Georgia, and needed to stop for gas. There were some townies hanging out drinking in front of the station who were heard to yell "Who the *** is this long hairded freak!?!". My hair wasnt even that long.Requiemslove wrote: »People. Really? I use it to mean I'm amused, likewise every LOL I get I take to mean someone is amused at my comment, if they're using in the way you suggest IDC, it's one more point for me either way.nicholaspingasb16_ESO wrote: »the LOL button has become, on most posts, an unofficial dislike button.

I love that these arguments prove the counter without realizing it.
If you agree with someone, then generally there's no need for you to expand on their argument. You just agree with them. Without agree/awesome/insightful buttons, that turns the thread in to a stream of posts like "QFT," and "What he said." Which is useless, space-wasting discussion.

That makes no sense. The assumption on your part is that all folks would do is click disagree and move on without offering their opinion.
Actually, more often than not, that's exactly what happens.

Ah yes... The hyperbolic battle cry of trolls.nerevarine1138 wrote: »It doesn't have to be "dislike." It could be "disagree." How is that different than many of the poll threads we see? I would at like to see a "Disagree" option to the choices.

I know that this will be the second time I've quoted this portion of your post. But this thread alone proves the point you are so against.
Look at the defacto standard of using LOL as a dislike/disagree option. Compare the OP's LOL's to those who have actually replied... And crunch the numbers.
Very few who LOL'd bothered to actually reply.
Ironic isn't it that those who are supposed to support the measure, are too stupid to know how to support it?
Disagree was removed because during beta someone targeted another forum user by disagreeing with every single post they made. They even went so far as to go search through the user's posting history on their profile to disagree all their old posts too. The victim was upset over it so ZOS decided it was being used as a form of griefing and removed it. For a while we didn't have any buttons at all. And then ZOS finally decided to add the positive ones back in.
There used to be a spam button as well but, as you guessed, it was abused shortly after the disagree button was removed.
If ZOS ever decides LOL is being abused, don't be surprised if it gets removed as well.
Me too ... then of course its been used on me in both ways as well. "What's funny about this .... hmmmm..."I use the LOL for both purposes.. but most when I find a post amusing!
The LOL in the sarcastic sense is usually reserved for the most moronic posts that are so obviously ridiculous they are ironically amusing...
There was a "disagree" button before - but for some reason I believe the button gave you -1 points on your profile (correct me if I'm wrong)
I think the button should be brought back, however with no penalty nor gain for the poster when someone disagrees with the comment (because there's nothing wrong with conflicting opinions!1!1)
You want a disagree...
I want all the buttons to show who clicked them and also a limit on how many ratings a person can spam in a day.
If there was some accountability for the ratings it wouldn't be a problem. I just hate when a small percentage of trolls spam buttons all day.
I think having a simple disagree would be fine, but it should not result in reduced points to your profile. I was one of those people during beta who lost a big amount of points because some twerp did not like a post I made in a thread, and then proceeded to click "dislike" on every single post I made that he/she could find. There should always be a means to click "disagree" or "dislike" but it is/was idiotic to have it reduce your forum points.
