Zenimax- Just add a dislike button.

the LOL button has become, on most posts, an unofficial dislike button. Adding a dislike button would prevent confusion as to which posts people find legitimately funny, and which ones people think are downright ridiculous. It would also turn every post into a poll, letting you gauge the popularity of people's ideas that are posted here.

There was a "disagree" button before - but for some reason I believe the button gave you -1 points on your profile (correct me if I'm wrong)
I think the button should be brought back, however with no penalty nor gain for the poster when someone disagrees with the comment (because there's nothing wrong with conflicting opinions!1!1)

Edit: Apparently the buttons had no effect, they were neutral.

If people want to be passive-aggressive in their trolling with the LOL button, let them. They help you get badge points.

I assume people are genuinely LOL-ing when I get LOL'd, so if they intend something different, they're wasting their time.

A disagree button could be useful in the respect that if someone posts an unpopular opinion, or facts that aren't really facts, devs don't think the majority of the population want a certain feature, and new players know to take some posts as rumors not facts.

If people are too lazy to formulate an argument, then I'll gladly think that they found something funny in my post. Let them be lazy, and their vote can stand as a testament to their inability to put forward any kind of coherent argument in favor of their position.

I'll admit I sometimes use the lol button sarcastically, but only when a post is so blatantly propostorous as to not deserve a rebuttal.

Dislike buttons are too susceptible to griefers. The maturity level of the majority of forum users simply isn't conducive for dislikes to be a valuable asset. The fact that the LOL button is already abused in a manner that it wasn't even intended for is proof enough.

If anything, keep it like it is now, but change the LOL button so it's tooltip shows publicly who clicked it. Then we'd see far fewer people using it as a method to down vote.

    Well-said.

"My LOL is actually meant with sarcasm".
"My LOL is meant as a negative".
"The LOL is the unofficial dislike button".

LOL. And I meant it. I actually find those arguments hilarious.

Such things got removed, cause they got abused the lol button is kinda of thing that doesn't really matter and doesn't give you a - or a + less you rack up a certain amount then think it gives like a point.

But I don't see any need to add or change anything in the regards of icons.

It doesn't have to be "dislike." It could be "disagree." How is that different than many of the poll threads we see? I would at like to see a "Disagree" option to the choices.

I find it a bit ironic that this post has a couple of LOLs already. You'd think that people who actually use LOL as a dislike/disagree, would be supportive of the notion.

    No.

If you disagree with someone, explain yourself. If you don't care enough to explain yourself or if you don't have a decent argument, then clearly there's no need for anyone to know about your disagreement.

yes people were going to peoples profiles they didn't like and clicking dislike on every post they made to make them lose ranks.

All they had to do was make it where dislike didn't cause you to lose points or show up on your profile or something. Instead they just took it out

Why? If you disagree take the time to state why, otherwise you are just wasting everyone's time NOT explaining yourself.

LoL button is for humour, as a positive.. if you use it in the negative, you fail to understand... like someone calling you "Special" and you take it as a positive comment even though you are chewing a stick of chalk in art class.

One button negatives just make it too easy for people to troll and follow folks in vendettas. Let it slide or say something - Really not that hard.

Nothing wrong with the current system - I didn't like it initially but I am use to it; but block negative voting would be bad for the community. And it would be used for block negative voting.

ZOS is not going to reinstate it no matter how many people ask for it, because it would get abused again. If you disagree with someone, quote them and say what you disagree with, and why. This is much clearer than a disagree button.

Up/Down system is the same as Like/Dislike, and would be as subject to abuse as the old Dislike button from the beta.

That makes no sense. The assumption on your part is that all folks would do is click disagree and move on without offering their opinion. LOL right. This is a forum and we will always hear/see counter arguments, but as long as they have polling tabs that include "agree" they should also have a tab indicating disagreement. Is this community not mature enough to see that people disagree with them? Don't be afraid. Embrace the change.

I got trolled by the disagree button during beta. Also, it made my profile page look bad for no good reason. I like it is now.

To give everyone an example, I asked a question about something in a forum post, some kind soul gave me a good answer. The last post I made in that thread is a simple "Thank You" and someone just have click "disagree." How can some one "disagree" with a kind "Thank you" to a good answer to a question?

An example of abuse of the system and a forum troll....

Exactly, the disagree button only had potential for abuse, it had no positive value, which is why I'm glad they got rid of it.

    No, this is wrong.

Most of us can take critism, try it criticise me.

But what we can't take it people ticking a disagree button and not saying why they disagree. If you disagree say why. A disagree button does not facilitate this.

I know that this will be the second time I've quoted this portion of your post. But this thread alone proves the point you are so against.

Look at the defacto standard of using LOL as a dislike/disagree option. Compare the OP's LOL's to those who have actually replied... And crunch the numbers.

Very few who LOL'd bothered to actually reply.

Ironic isn't it that those who are supposed to support the measure, are too stupid to know how to support it?

Instead of a "dislike" button, we should have one called "Golf Clap."

If people are going to say ridiculous things, why not give people the mechanics to let them know that what they've said is ridiculous. This ironic use of the LOL button is peevish and juvenile.
