Eidetic memory bugged to uselessness | gamebreaking [Possible Spoilers]

11 days and no update. Nothing about this in the v1.1 and v1.1.1 patchnotes.
Cancelled my subscription again, which is sad because I reactivated it when you said you will look into it NOW.
Please inform me when bugs like this are fixed and I am no longer being charged for being a paid beta tester for your console version. Thanks.

Don't delete your character. It's just a bug that will eventually get fixed. Rather, start another one that you aim to craft in some particular specialty - or just as an alternative.

Same problem here, and I also think this eidetic memory buggyness is keeping me from gaining skills from skill books, where as i have not got a single skill book unlock since i have completed the mages guild quest and got the eidetic memory.

It says that I have found 0/82 skill books, but i know i got at least 25-45 before getting eidetic memory, and for sure didn't get the entire 82 listed before I finished the mages guild quest line. Maybe I'm wrong, but I stop and read EVERYTHING and it's been about 15 levels since I have got a skill unlocked from a book....

Not every skill book will apply to your character.

I was hoping I would find some update on this problem. As I am worried that many of the things will not be retroactive and I will end up re-rolling in order to get a "complete" characters. (worried about some of the achievements too). I just don't understand how it would be that hard to fix this. The game "knows" which books you have read (esp skillbooks, crafting books) and at the very least they could make it register the books you read after getting Eidetic Memory. (imo i think this eidetic memory should be running/recording, but invisible to you until you finish the mages' guild quest.

Please update us as to where you are at in fixing this.

I have the same problem, I only noticed it because I wanted to see how many more skill books were out there, and found I had apparently never read a single one. Which of course I know is inaccurate, since I've had plenty of skill-ups from books.

Same problem here. A ton of books I read in the past didn't get flagged. In addition, even books I read after I got Eidetic memory still not being marked. Disappointing this wasn't fixed with Craglorn

For me Eidetic memory books that it shows that I have in xx/xx format but show up grey on the right side so I can't read them. It also eats my books. I went from 330 for the 5th time then after logging in the next day it was 287. Then the next log in it was 274. I probably ready between 30-50 books between that time as well while questing/zone clearing.

Since there is an addon that exists (Librarian) that can see which books you've read and which you have not, that tells me that the game IS keeping track of your books properly, and the problem you're seeing with the ability is solely a display issue. It sounds quite a bit like the display issue involving quest achievements that's going on right now. In that case, they specificially said it is a display issue and the data is there.

I noticed Eidetic Memory working on my main after the patch, at least on my crafting books section anyway.

Definitely bugged for me. I've read hundreds of books that are not showing up on there. I hope the books are flagged, just not displaying properly.

Librarian keeps track of the books in its own way; it actually dumps the text of the books to its own settings file for later consumption. (Mine is at almost 2MB right now.)

i got excited today when i saw 3 books that i read actually get collected in there. but then upon logging out the became un-collected... i also wish this worked as i like completing things to their maximum but if this is just going to reset with every log out what's the point... not to mention that this is the first time aside from motifs that i've seen a book get collected in there.

Problem is, I doubt they know what Books we already have read to activate them somehow for us, I may sound pessimistic, but I still hope it will work out one or the other way, if not I'll doubt it will be a long term MMO for me like WoW, I will play maybe a year and then quit & wait for F2P

It seems like there are two camps at ZOS. First we have the game engine programmers, the script writers and the graphic artists, most of which are doing a wonderful job. These people have been employed for several years and have put their hearts and souls into making a good game.

Then we have the script programmers, who are relatively new to the team and crank out code that seems as if it was written by an unruly bunch of script kiddies, hacking at random using bad tools without any structure or quality control, an generally creating a big jumbled mess of spaghetti code where some things just don't work at all.

This is what it looks like from the outside. I have no idea if this is actually the case, but it would explain a lot of the problems we are seeing.

Script code is an important part of the end user experience of a game, every bit as important as core engine code, and should be written with just as much care and skill. Sadly, this does not appear to be the case.

My Eidetic memory tab has absolutely nothing in it. 0 in every category. A while back it used to have some items in it, although definitely not everything I had read, but now it is completely useless.

If I find an amusing note, or a book containing information I would like to keep handy, I take a screenshot of it.

Eidetic memory now shows what you have. However, it has lost at least 50 books of mine. I was at 330 at least 3 times and now it's sitting at 280 again. I also noticed that one book in particular, Mace Etiquette, shows up as unread even though I have read it no less than 4 times since I hit VR. I'm sure that there's at least 49 other books that I've read that I haven't maintained credit for which includes Motiffs which really pisses me off.

You are lucky, mine when from 311 to 20, everything but the crafting books (and that was at 22, now at 20) shows 0, like I have never picked up anything....

I wouldn't consider losing around 150 books that won't show up as being read lucky. Especially after you've read them multiple times.

I was very disappointed this broke; I'd wanted to read the "Z'en and Mauloch" books, but they're quest-related and every time I'd try monsters would attack, taking me out of the read screen and then the book was picked up and I couldn't go back to it. I was hoping Eidetic Memory would let me go back and read those, but no, broken.

Because it's a low priority bug that doesn't stop people from progressing or playing the game. With the current onslaught of self-inflicted problems for the developers, I doubt they will get around to fixing it soon. I want this fixed too, and had I known that this bug was going to persist, I would have installed the Librarian add-on long ago. However, while waiting for a fix I can read the books elsewhere. Just Google it.

Thank god I found this, since this has been bugging me for quite some time. Books I KNOW Ive read arent listed as read. And I read every single scrap of paper I come by. SHINEYS. Hope they fix it, but there are so many other things they should probably fix to, its not game breaking. Just OCD breaking.

I've been informed by ZOS that they consider this issue as "fixed" because, if you start a NEW character, Eidetic Memory is supposed to work. However, if you were one of the "early adopters" of ESO and aren't willing to scrap your "bugged" characters, you're **** out of luck.

Well then I don't consider it fixed. Fixed would be that they retroactively awarded the book memories. I have no intention of creating a new character because their system was borked to begin with and us early adopters are paying the price.

It's even worse because they've not told us a word about it, though I can understand why they wouldn't officially admit to it. So glad I unsubbed after my free time and just waited a few months.
