Maintenance for the week of January 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – January 6
• NA megaservers for maintenance – January 8, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 8:00AM EST (13:00 UTC)
• EU megaservers for maintenance – January 8, 9:00 UTC (4:00AM EST) - 13:00 UTC (8:00AM EST)

Daytime maintenance AGAIN?

If a company is serving a global market, you have to deliver services on a global scale and set it all up globally. You can never deliver from one site. You should always give the customer the maintenance window time schedule. You never take extra or additional time during maintenance. It's maintenance, not a system crash.

Maintenace should always be done on off hours and not during the customers prime time. And if the decision was to have the European Megaserver first in the US and then move it over to Europe later, then another team has to do the European maintenance during European off time, not when they fell like doing it within a US time frame. If you have problems within your maintenace window, you rollback, fix it, test it on your test servers and then wait for the next off hour maintenance window. You never take prime time or extra time for "extra" or "additional" maintenance/hotfixes/patches. If you do take extra time or additional time, you're not serious about your work or your customers.

There is a reason WoW does it's maintenance between 03:00 CEST and 11:00 CEST (at the latest)

Whatever other issues WoW has, that system works. Presumably within 8 hours there would be sufficient time to resolve everything until the next week and, unplanned maintenance wouldn't have to happen.

I am sure that the devs are doing their best, but really it's in everyone's interest to avoid any maintenance during the evening (which is what we're approaching now, not the early afternoon...)

Maybe they could just alternate the maintenance times so NA\EU players get equal evening play time. I only ask that they don't mess with the weekends any more.

I dont really see an issue with daytime maintenance during a normal workday... Weekends should never have them though. Or evenings, any day of the week. Oh wait...

If you're going to continue to treat Europe like second class citizens then I would at least expect a discount on subscriptions. As it stands we have the dubious honour of paying more money for less service.

Please leave. No seriously leave. Anyone bent out of shape for issues being fixed is obviously a troll and/or toxic player.

If they told us why it was coming down might help if it was to fix the huge number of bugs a plus. Also some sort of ETA would be grand not just "This evening" that can mean anything.

No matter it is America company or Europe company... but if they do maitenance for EUROPE server then it must be in europe time. Not in europe prime time.. im almost in middle of europe and now here 19:41 - and we see maitenance...

And europe servers located in america it is second big *** really...

It would be nice to know when they think they will be up.

As a side note would be nice to know what is being fixed. The lack of communication by the moderators on these forums is astounding.

I guess this is one of the MANY misunderstandings between USA/UK and the rest of the world because of the different defintions. Night in most of the world = 00:00 -> 06:00. Evening = 18:00-> 00:00

Where in the world does night mean midnight to 6am exactly? What weird place do you hail from? Night is when it is not day - i.e. when it's dark. That's what the word means. Evening is the crossover. Yes it's vague and subjective in everyday use and you get a lot of crossover but I've never met anyone who didn't "get" what someone was trying to convey when they could have used either term.

    Midnight to 6am... exactly... lol.

Seriously, they need to let us know the approximate time period the servers will be down. Knowing WHY would also be a bonus.

Why? I mean if they give a time frame then they will be hammered if they miss it. This is not like patching your single computer at home, these patches are very complex and every patch has the potential to ruin a different part of the game. If they give a time frame that they hope for but have to go over they will be called liars. If they give a time frame with a buffer so they can be sure to hit it they will be called lame and incompetent because of the long down time. Giving a time frame is a zero win proposition for ANY developer.

As for the WHY they took it down does it matter? I mean 99% of the people here are not programmers and likely would not understand the reasoning. Even if they did someone would make it war claiming the fix was not worth the time and did not go far enough, gamers like to ***.

We would all love more info, no doubt but the truth is the morons that spend all their time bitching ruin it for the rest of us and developers are, understandably, not going to give these idiots any more ammo.

Just realize the server is down, they have acknowledged they are working on it and do something else while they fix it. Check ever now and then on the status forum and play when it comes back up.

Knowing an approximate time frame or the reasoning for the down time will not make it happen faster and make your gaming experience better. You cannot help them do the work quicker and living on the forum bitching does nothing but make them not want to work on the game.

    This.
I don't really mind the surprise maintenance, or would not if i know why it was happening.
Is this an actual emergency, or are they doing it, again, on a whim?

Looking at the patch notes, I see a ton of quests that are supposedly now fixed. I'll take the loss of a few hours of play time to save the frustration of broken quests during play time. Nip these bugs in the bud early I say.

They did say there might be another one unscheduled in order to fix the bank issues so... *crosses fingers*

Otherwise, go make some food, have a walk to stretch your legs, watch a good movie or a podcast, maybe say hello to your family or friends you have neglected for the past two weeks and I'm sure in two or three hours you'll be happily questing away again with less bugs and a better over all game.

Or you could post your rage on the forums about how your entire life is ruined now. :p

LOL Funny, and so very true. Maintenance has to be done - Issues need fixed for everything to work smoothly. I think they are doing an awesome job, especially considering how massive a job it is.

None of us WANT the servers to go down thus making us live in our real lives rather than the game but come on, people, you WILL survive this and, if you take the sage advice of Turelus, your real life just might be the better for it.

Have a nice day :), be happy lol

Wouldn't know about 6am but night in Europe (at least northern Europe) means post-midnight, without any real fixation for when it ends except colloquially, which changes depending on where you are. Regardless, night is never before 24:00 (00:00), in this part of the world.

While I sure as hell aren't the least happy that the servers are down for maintenance when I get home at around 5 pm CEST, the biggest damn problem is that the staff don't communicate. Seriously, it's the most basic thing there is in customer service and community management - you gotta communicate. Communication to a community is like firefighters to a forest fire - if you don't do it, it's gonna spread, and it's gonna spread fast. Something as little as "we had to fix some problems arising during this mornings maintenance" or "we have to roll out urgent bugfixes" or whatever would serve a lot to calm stuff down. But instead, they just make a post saying "Hi, we're taking down the server when most of you Europeans play, have patience!". How is anyone going to react well to that? It's not to communicate - that's how you talk to a wall.

That's really the only big issue with this - we realize that this game is new, it's got a buttload of baby problems, it's gonna need maintenaces, some of the unscheduled... But how exactly are we gonna show any understanding when they refuse to communicate with us? When they don't even bother to give any kind of general information on as to why? Simply, we can't. That's human, and it's something that anyone who have ever had anything to do with customer service or community management should know by default.

It wouldn't be so bad if stuff that was supposedly fixed really was. Bosses not spawning fixed a couple of times already. Chat lag last time it was fixed was yesterday or the day before, still there today.

great game but its in a bit of state right now. Still lets hoe that it is the bank bug or dispersing skill point bug being fixed. The big 'lets hope' is that it really is fixed and doesn't return in a few days.

This is just hillarious :) . I finally recieved my Pre-Ordered Retial Box version today. This means i have been waiting since the early start ended to play.
Im not going to mention how the maintances were during prime time in early start...but now when i put my kid to bed, sat behind PC (its 19:57 here) to enjoy my long awaited game, just to find out there is EU maintance going on, in Prime time again. I am sorry but when am i supposed to play this game? This is beyond beggars belief
