    these threads are dumb.

    why?

because no matter what time they do anything, someone will be effected in a bad way. whether they do it wednesday midday, or 4am on a tuesday, time zone is pretty irrelevant someone, somewhere won't be able to play.

suck it up, find something to do for several hours, and move on.

Not that I have a problem with what you have posted, I actually agree somewhat. I did have a post closed down of my own 2 days ago for calling someone out in the forums by using their @tag. It is apparently a breach of ToS to use forum threats to call people out or personally target them in a negative way.

    Who knew.

The simple fact of the matter is you're taking a paid service down during your customers prime time. I know we're not the majority of your customers and sure it's not like as if it's 6PM for us or anything but it's really not the point. When it comes down to it, we pay more for your service than most anyone. I don't think it's too much to ask for it to be available in our prime timeslot.

actually 6pm would be a hell of alot better then what we have now ;).. atleast after 2 hours of maintenance its still a reasonable time to play the game.. and at 6pm we are sitting down to eat dinner with the family.. probably even watching neighbours or whatever..
i would love it to be 5pm(2 hour maint.. back playing at 7pm after dinner) our time but the time of the maint isnt the main issue here.. its the Day that matters is Friday is the wrong choice.

Hah! You do have a good point there mate :)

Agreed but not Thrusday Aus Prime time we are losing two days game time we are paying for...

Well, really you guys should have your own Megaserver IMO, located in Sydney or something. I feel for ya, you guys get screwed almost every MMO release because they don't want to spend the money (I understand why, but it still sucks). Maybe down the road that will change, who knows.

Totally agree here too but Telstra already have a running record of ruining this sort of thing for us. Greedy sods :'(

Actually you are wrong here... if it was 3am EDT it wouldnt affect anyone (except New Zealand).. since anyone it would be affecting would be playing on the EU server .. and Fridays are universally bad for Everyone.. and that is the point i wanted to make with this topic.. change the day from Friday to any other week day and its aok..

No, if it was done other then on a WEEKEND PRIME TIME FOR PAYING CUSTOMERS there wouldn't be a problem. i forked out $140 for this game plus im up for another $80 next month for my sub. (IF i choose to continue, at this rate its not looking promising)

Zen is basically turning into EA, roll out a broken game, out a massive price tag on it with promises of how good it'll be, then shrug of and inconvenience their customers. YES there are times that will be inconvenient, i don't work most days!!! Every day is my prime time!! But CMON ON A FRIDAY NIGHT?! Like seriously? Way to slap your highest paying customers in the face!

what about those people who are up playing at that time?

the point being someone is effected, the other point, the obvious difference in the # of people.

i get what you're saying, just being devils advocate.

I mean, i live on the east coast, so if i were home, I'd be annoyed, but I'm at work...

fri night oceanic is ***. period.

Zenimax dont care about oceanic players. They only care about not pissing NA playerbase.

Remember the previous maintenance schedule was on Sunday? That would *** off the NA playerbase so they changed it to Friday Morning non peak timing.

Why are we paying the same price as NA when our prime time is used for maintenance?

I agree that having the maintenance days be someones Friday night is not good. That being said one does need to take into account that they can only change these days around so much and that no matter what there will most likely be someone that is unhappy with whatever time the the servers are down. People are always trying to play ESO just like WOW, and there will always be people that angrily get denied access into the game while the ZOS team does what they need to do to make the time that we are playing better. Everyone is not on the same clock and it is next to impossible to meet the needs of every single time zone.

GAH! that wasn't the point! He was the dude that closed off the other thread and the first person I've seen from ZOS that's at least shown his face on one of these threads... I was more hoping it would flash on his console and help push through a response from them. *mutters* perhaps I should edit it and just leave it as 'hey zos!' :P

Just NOT FRIDAY. Friday hits Oceanic Friday night primetime.

Maintenance should never be on someone's Friday night primetime. Isn't hard to avoid this happening- simply shift maintenance to another day altogether (Thursday).

wow, that's pretty judgemental, and assuming statement there, but echos my point, as there are still people effected, but just probably a lower number of them.

The 'quality' / social status of a player shouldn't matter, although in your biased and assuming eyes it does.

Again... i did post this earlier.. but the problem can be solved.. 3am EDT maint times.. its good for everyone that plays on the NA server (apart from the New Zealand guys) everyone else that that time would annoy would actually be playing on the EU server.. so those maintenance times would not bug them at all..

back to the main topic tho.. this is about moving the Regular Maintenance night from Friday to any other weekday.. Fridays are going to be bad for everyone.

it wasnt ment to come out like that.. it was ment to be.. hey these guys work and have limited time to play.. those guys dont and can play any time of the day/night.. if you have the option definitely attempt to help the guys that are on limited play time.. the other guys can play any time they like.

I'm going to laugh when some outback game developer makes a huge MMO success and schedules maintenance for US/EU primetimes on Saturday. Their loading icon will be a middle finger and a roo trying to root a sheep.

Right now, with typical downtime estimated from 8am-12pm EDT, here's what it looks like (for an "average" person who sleeps at night):

NA West Coast - downtime 5am-9am - morning players screwed.
NA East Coast - down until noon - you work afternoons, you're screwed.
Aussies (all 3 time zones) - downtime starts roughly mid evening and ends around midnight. Everyone's screwed.

If server maintenance were at say, 2am EDT instead, here's what that would look like:

NA West Coast - downtime starts 11pm - you can't stay up all night playing, but you get a few good hours in.
NA East Coast - servers are up at 6am - you lose nothing unless you're a night person.
Central Aussies - your downtime is from 3pm-7pm - you start your play time a little late, but now you have all night.

A 2am EDT start seems to me to minimize the impact all around.

EDIT: For clarity - also NOT FRIDAY. this would thoroughly screw west coasters if it was a Friday.

Raising hand to agree that Friday night sux as a maintenance night. Very unhappy at having to pay for the game and the subscription (especially, lets be honest, when you consider that GW2 is as good as this game and has ridiculous amounts of new content WITHOUT a sub), to NOT be able to play on my main gaming night is a bitter pill to swallow.

it honestly makes 0 difference to me when they do it, so long as stuff is being worked on and fixed with our sub monies.

Personally I advocate a Thursday maintenance. What I was suggesting was how to minimize the number of people inconvenienced regardless of the day.

Only Friday night primetime for all people around the world needs to be taken into consideration here.

People don't have Friday nights around the world 48 hours apart. Making it NOT ON A FRIDAY will impact nobody's primetime (this being Friday night).
