Any Sorcerer's defeat Molag Bal?

Save your stamina for sprinting if needed. If your a caster, he should never get in melee range for you to need to dodge. You can see the circle form and he stops before his leap. Get distance then.

I only play in third person.

I'm not very familiar with the Sorcerer skill line, but do you have access to decent AoE capabilities? I found Molag to be incredibly easy as a DK - never got below 80% health (though had invested ALL my attrbutes in health, and relied on all magicka to come from weapon/armor enchantments). When he summoned his minions I simply spammed "deep breath" which both absorbed health and did magicka damage to the minions. It wasn't a fair fight - I kept waiting for it to get hard, but it didn't. Hardest part was running after the guy. I entered the final fight at 48, and left at 49. And I'm NOT an expert by any stretch.

Moral of the story for me: arm yourself with AoE, make sure you have plenty of health, make full use of weapon/armor enchantments and perhaps try heavy armor as well. And don't forget to block if/when things get hairy.

I beat him. After about 7 frustrating defeats, I got online and read up on how others beat him. Then I added a heal to my attacks, and I had him beat. I had now problems with the champions he called down as I simply blocked, and the champions attacks were sent back to them, basically they killed themselves. I just ran around, healing myself and attacking when I could. I kept my pet up as much as possible, and enjoyed that he was focusing on me, as my pet heals as well as attacks. It took a very long time win, but I knew I was going to, because he could not get my life down past half. I was very happy.

DON'T try to be a traditional sorc in this fight. It won't work. You'll get owned every time. For this fight alone...you aren't the usual sorc. You're just a gold power ranger.
    <...>
Btw, you CAN use Overload and Surge (both in the Storm Calling tree). Both help with increasing a sorcs "left click" damage.
It helped. MB was killed from the 1st try. Thanx.

But i HATE it, definitely! if we have a system of Classes, any class is to have its own abilities and its own tactics to fulfill the task. Without ranger's kiting'n'strfing, without Resto staff (it's suited for templars btw!)... And more of that, this kind of fight is bo-o-o-o-o-ring! The most boring fight ever.

P.S. at the very end of this fight i stumbled upon a bug! MB had 0 HP, but just stood on his knees and that's all! I couldn't get that final animation of my Final Blow. Only after reloggin' i found my char near Meridia.... Hmmm...

I do not picture a "traditional" Sorcerer in all medium armor. But, whatever. However, you do not even offer what spells you were using. Did you have any means to heal or at least mitigate damage?

Somehow I feel no matter how many times some of us have taken different classes through this fight we will be ""nbz" (newbs?) and "schoolboys" to such as you. We can list the spells we used, type walls of text explaining how we did one shot it. And you will still ridicule us as immature (I am 57) until we agree with you it is an impossible fight.

If I could wave a wand and make this fight optional for you I would. You would get to the first few VR zones and be back on the forums complaining about impossible quests.

No one useful word in your comment, 'aged' mister.
Just a silly try to be ironical or something like that )
Now after i done that final quest i can repeat: this fight was impossible because this is bugged! Till this time! I suppose it was a luck for me to pass it with the less bug at the very end. All previous times (with the same armor and spells) i couldn't resiist constant aoe-attacks.

This tread scared me a lot, went in as an sorcerer with restoration staff, died once then I got mobbed by titans, next time I managed to kill the titans, Molag him self was just do damage, kite and heal, used the area effect heal and cast in front of me.
crystal shards, endless furry, area effect healing and silver bolts also had the clanfear but it died at once so an debuff from dark magic or summoning had been better.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

What? No insight then for all us peons that may have trouble? Imagine the nerve of asking something like this..in the player help section of all things. Geez...

    *cough*

And seriously guys...spoiler? I understand that maybe you don't want to know exactly how it goes down..and then I wouldn't read this thread if I did. But some people have questions and if they have to search and there is nothing in the title to help said search...it wouldn't be helpful.

But our main man...er...daedra... Molag steals your soul...of course you are going to go open a can of whip butt on him! Everything else is dying and details. :)

The problem with people who post on the internet is that they don't know the difference between being rude and not being rude.

So Mr. Imsoperfect, there are other people who have trouble with it. Let them get advice and keep your useless comments to youself.

Problem seems to be that different instances of some of these main quest fights take on quite different difficulty - in perception certainly, if not in reality. I had some real problems earlier on in the game, especially in the Halls of Torment. By stopping and going back a few days later, an absolutely impossible fight (that I wasted two hours on!!) became almost easy (30 seconds).

And for the record, there was no real difference in my level or build - just an exit and then another attempt.

I guess these are the breaks with an MMO like this one - possibly a bug, possibly not. After my two hour fight, above, and the frustration that caused me..... well, I seriously empathise with the author of this thread !!

Mind you, the relief when I won through...... wow!

I'm a 7/7 light armor sorceror, killed him on the first try without much trouble.
Crystal Shards - Pulsar - Surge - dark exchange - inner light.
I use a resto staff as swap.

I just kept him at range, alternating shards and flamestaff/restostaff attack.
Aoe'd the titans with smart blocking and pulsar.
Dark exchange whenever I had a few seconds. Not really needed but the full magicka bar made the fight a lot faster.
Also, stat food is your friend.

Another important thing : Don't stand in the stupid. I moved constantly during the fight, even when it wasn't really needed.

One last remark, I haven't had a summon out since my early 20's I think.
They die stupidly fast, wake up cc'd mobs and are about as useful as an udder on a bull. In group situations they are a nuisance since they are often the target for "lowest on hitpoints" heals if they don't Leroy Jenkins the boss and die in 2 hits.

Just did it for my wife at lvl 48. Was really easy to be honest. I only used 3 skills from skillbar and an ultimate:

    Tactic:

Used 1 unstable clannfear who kept dying

Mages Wrath IV for nice distant lightingblot on his head
Structured Entropy IV for healing and doing damage
    Greater Storm Atronarch IV

A Prismatic Flamestaff (i belive the one from fioghtersguild quest the purple one)

Molag Ball comes: I only used mages wrath and shooting fireballs from staff,

Dragons spawn and i only used Structered entropy and fireballs while running around. No sweat.

Molag Ball comes again. same as first but i could spawn a atronach twice while fighting himn. at start and nearly at end. Kept making a clannfear when he died. Further i run around like a maniac doing fireball and entropy and mages wrath.

Well i expected to die quick to be honest but did it in 1 try

Dear god... this fight. I finally beat it after repeatedly dying for what seemed like ages: Level 46, all broken 0/x armor, stage 4 Vampirism.

After curling in the corner and crying for a bit, I reconfigured my abilities and tried again. It took two attempts to get used to my newly slotted abilities. I downed it on the third try in 11 minutes.

My biggest issue, as a vampire, was not enough HP.

I don't have self-heals or restoration staff, so I went with shields instead. I spammed Annulment I [Light Armor active], Conjured Ward I [Class > Daedric Summoning active], and my monkey [Volatile Familiar IV].

Titans: I ran down the steps and held block. Their attacks bounced back and killed them.

Molag Bal: I used Annulment and Conjured Ward as needed. The uptime on the shields is long enough to restore your HP to full. I avoided his comet attacks and kited him around one of the rocky outcroppings whilst my monkey hit it and I spammed light attacks with my destruction staff.

Good luck to all the vampire sorcerers out there. It's difficult, but doable!

Thanks everyone for the advice. My first two tries as glass canon mage were abysmal failures, but then after reading these posts I learned : 1) Block deflects adds attacks back at them which I never would have figured out on my own and 2) this is a war of attrition and need to spec accordingly. I went with healing staff with power surge ultimate, magelight/inner light, critical surge, unstable clannfear, velocious curse and healing ward and it was a snap, mostly just using regular attacks and power surge. Six cloth pieces and one heavy piece.

I have spent hours trying to defeat him, and it just isn't happening. All this talk of add, blue spells, auto attacks, etc are right over my head. I can't even teleport to another zone. I would have to run back through the gauntlet I had to endure just to get to him. Screw that. I am playing something else until they make it an easier fight.

after having my ass handed to me on several occasions I finally beat this guy :) my tactics were to run like hell from him, only pausing to chuck a DoT on him, self healing like a *** and as soon as those titans popped I went all werewolf on their asses, worked a treat, destroyed the adds in seconds, levelled werewolf skill line at same time and very satisfying, reverted to human form and back to running like a little girl around the arena, job done, here's to VR.....

This was so frustratingly hard that I cancelled my account.
    1. It's a game
    2. I'm paying for entertainment
    3. At this point, it's no longer entertaining
    4. I've already played all the good content at this point. Not like beating Molag Bal is going to unlock an entire new story quest or anything.
    5. Why they force boss battles on solo players in an MMO is beyond me.
    6. This game was *barely* playable - I barely decided to pay for it. Being an Elder Scrolls fan was the real deciding factor.
    7. I never got to the point where I would recommend this to people who asked. I always said, "Don't know just yet"
    8. Now I know.

By reading this thread, I was worried it would be incredibly hard. It wasn't. I got my face pounded into the ground the first time. On my second attempt I beat him.

I was trying to be my usual Sorcerer self in this fight and it didn't work out. So I switched things up.

I kited this guy so much, with both daedra summoned at all times. If they died, re-summoned them. Used restro staff all the way and bound armour. With restro staff I could self heal and keep chipping away at him with the standard weapon attack. Keep moving and dodging at all times.

As many have said, block the titans as their spells get reflected back at them.

Keep moving, don't stop and pop off attacks when it is safe to do so. Yes, it's a long fight. Don't worry, get in there and show that Molag Bal!!

Molag Bal is basically a check on whether or not youve been paying attention to the tutorials. If you cant move out of the damage area of effects and block, then youre not going to beat him.

This fight is incredibly easy if you can do the most basic combat tactics. Have some way to heal, have a way to do damage, and avoid taking damage if possible. Never ceases to amaze me how people refuse to adapt to situations and then complain for nerfs... Its not broken, you just suck. Learn from your mistakes and get better.

Pretty much this. If you have problems moving out of red stuff, you will have problems with this fight. So plan accordingly. My gf falls in this category so we loaded her up with DoTs and sent her in. She would run around, and then once every 10 seconds or so stand still long enough to get a dot or three on him then take off running again. Since you are constantly moving you don't really have to worry about red spots so much. It took a while but she did it.

I wonder if people just got use to cheating with mods in other elder scrolls games, I've had much harder fights in them.

I am now v12, but did this fight at 42 as sorc full light armor prismatic flame staff and stage 4 vampirism. I don't understand peoples problem with this you literally can do it just by blocking and light attack, although this is not how i did it. The buffs that you get from sacrificing one of them are way OP and make it an unfair fight tbh, just spam mages wrath or impulse with magelight and crit surge always, shards when u can and when it procs. block deflects their attacks back, and even on molag bal block is very effective. Just have dark conversion for when you're not bolt escaping around. I never went below half health and fail to see how this thread even exists.

LOL, you answered your own question .. doing as a broken-OP Vamp I'm surprised you needed to wait till level 42.

I did it last night at 49 using a Resto staff and a clannfear ('cos I don't have any other pets, afterwards I realised the pet was more trouble than it's worth), NO OP VAMP.

Having done in on Templar I knew how it goes, and it's clear the most dangerous time is when he spawns the pack of Titans .. it's easy to take a few blue balls before realising what's happened.

After that it really is just staying out of the red, running away to heal if needed and chip away at his health .. in fact after the Titans are down it's kind of a boring war of attrition, but you need to keep focused otherwise it's easy to die if you're complacent.

Looking back over the entire Main Story quest set, the fights with the Harvester mechanics are the most annoying, aggravating I think I've seen in an MMO. The mechanic isn't too d bad it's the fact it's hard to get to all 4 orbs before one of them heals her and the healing is just stupidly OTT .. the fights take forever and death is largely a result of factors outside your control IMO .. this is why the 'Lyris' fight is so hard for many and why I'm sure the vast majority of 'win's are done many levels higher than 30 .. which itself is a sign of a badly-tuned fight.

Of course, the Molag Bal fight CAN'T be out-leveled, which is the fundamental problem with it, that means many players are locked out of the rest of the game and simply stop playing .. not good for the long-term health of ESO as I see it.
