I have to say you really did just spoil this fight for me, I had no idea I was going to get to fight him and would've loved the surprise....

    Super Easy Fight.

DPS Molag - Avoid his aoe and dont stand in the big red circle when he jumps into the air.

ADDS Spawn just hold block and you will reflect all spells back at them killing them quickly.

When Molag starts casting his fire ball spell never stop moving and just circle him slashing him.

    Super easy.

As a Templar I simply focused the adds down with an AoE ability, killed them in 2-3 pops after grouping them up.

The thing is pretty easy except when he summons all his minions at 50%.
I used restoration staff heals throughout, and just kept on hitting him with resto attacks.
I then used overload to quickly kill his minions, then used the rest of the overload charge to take down his health.
As long as you can keep some heals up while he attacks you, and you do a decent job of dodging, it's pretty simple.

I'm probably not any better than most people, but I was able to complete it first time - so hopefully it isn't nerfed.

Second that about the pets, my familiar just trailed behind him as he chased me. Rapid regeneration was essential for me. When the adds came I almost *** a brick, but kept running around, kiting the beasts for almost ten minutes, hitting them and him with mages fury and my resto-staff. Every now and again I'd pop a crystal blast and drop a charged atronach into the mix; going into lightning form as they swarmed me which gave enough time to get clear and rinse and repeat. The meteors just hit you if you're unlucky but keep running, the occasional health pot helped. I did it first time and barring cramped fingers, loved every moment. I wear 5 pieces of light and 2 heavy. Just used five skills for the fight as the familiar was useless.

with my sorcerer in full light, it was quite hard for few first tries, i always died on titans, but then, as someone wrote, u can reflect their attack with blocking, thats awesome, after titans, its pretty easy, just dont let him come to u, so he cant stun+IK spell you ;) i have died like 5x just because i let him come close to me, and he IKed me. btw ive tried many builds on this, almost everything works, heals, shields, blinks, just dont use spells on him ^^ just light/heavy attack him.
  • Kathleen.Flynn02b14_ESO
I really don't understand how people didn't think they would fight him. Surely you knew at the beginning of the game that he was enemy #1. How did you think the game would end?

Anyway, I don't remember everything about the fight, but I was mostly a 2H DK. I don't remember if I started the fight with 2H and abilities or just used a destruction staff the whole time. I remember being afraid that I would die about 10 times since I'm not a spectacular player, but I didn't die at all. I just ran around using the staff and healing spells/potions. Took some time, but not very stressful.

i'm a sorc (and not a very good one) and I beat it after 7 or 8 tries. Why did you guys never think to use the block? you didn't notice the big spell shield? Reflect the bolts back to the demons - bam - gone. Don't stand in bad, when molag bal is shining use block. Stay calm and done.

You are fighting a GOD. Its supposed to be difficult. Please don't cry for nerfs.

i defeated Molag Bal on my first attempt. really wasn't as hard as people are complaining about.

I am an altmer Sorcerer wearing 7/7 light armor. here is my build:

    esohead.com/calculator/skills#cMkzveNNgI8NUVF8heaf8NUmU8NURc8NUoE8hMxy8AIP18AIUM8A4hI8NURc8AISv8L7JcdoQr6MdoQC6MdoQF6MdoQJ6MdoQK8e7Vraqj8v7pranW6Mhx0n8H7rLzwM6LbHm6MNieA6MNieT8J7JrziB6rziD6rziX6LziY6MNUIz8K7DLkg6rzuI6LzuN6Lzuj6rzun6MANRQ6MANRU6MANRW6MANRZ8O7srdeF6zAZqS6MA3FN6MA3FA6MA3FL6MA4Cb847pzxLCe6cxLDm6cxLDo6cxLDs8zL7asK4EX6cK4PZ6cK4YF6cK4YK6cK4YQ6cK4YW

i ran around constantly making sure Velocious Curse was up as much as possible and using my Hardened Shield. healing in between and using the instant procs of Crystal Fragments. Again, not nearly as hard as people make it out to be. you just have to make sure you build a spec that will help you survive. if you go in there and try to kill him with all 5 ability slots filled with damage abilities. yes, you will die.

I Died several times just trying to reach Molag Bal and i didnt have any Soul Gems so constantly had to start from the Beginning and when i finally reached molag bal i did not have the skills to beat him so i just gave up.

About a week later after leveling a Dragon Knight Fire mage to Veteran rank 1 it started swaying on me that i had to beat him or i would have 2 Veteran rank 1 characters that i cant progress with, so i started planning

I Felt like my Sorcerer was my main so i level'd up Resto Staff (Rapid Regeneration) and Annulment (Light Armor tree) and i decided to take the cure so i was no longer a vampire as the 50% Fire damage is insane against some1 that only uses Blue Flame or Hiting you with a massive Club.

Anyhow with Rapid Regeneration and Annulment up at all time i never came close to death i was always on atleast 80% HP only 1 point i went to 60% because i forgot to pop Annulment.

Titans are easy to beat just run around constantly attacking and pop Healing and Shield Skills

Now im in Veteran zones and kinda wish i done it with my Dragon Knight i guess i prefer it now lol.

P.S. I Picked Varen to kill i donno if that effects it.

Level 48 Sorcerer with a Bow, once I found the magic skill setup which was; Daedric Mines, Consuming Trap, Venom Arrow, Entropy and Bound Armor, Molag Bal was literally a walk in the park, didn't use any health potions, I did however use Stamina and Magicka potions during the fight.
    PHASE ONE
Remember to BLOCK when he does melee damage whilst you kite him around the battle area, this creates some kind of a shield (wish I knew what it was called) that blocks the majority of his melee damage and blocking the blue orbs heal you (I'm not 100% sure but it did look like it in my fight)
    PHASE TWO
DO NOT PANIC this is the easiest part of the fight, Titans will drop down from the skies and attempt to destroy you, literally just stand there holding block whilst you look at them with your best troll face and they will die within 20-30 seconds. Once this is done start to move around as Molag Bal will come crashing down dealing heavy damage and stunning you.
    PHASE THREE
Begins the same as Phase One however with a added twist (easy when you understand what the hell is going on) begin to kite him as usual, blocking his melee if you can. After around 15 seconds of melee dueling, Molag Bal will now cast three blue fire balls, at this point you need to stop what you are doing, look at the ground searching for big red circles and cast any damage over time abilities. Whilst running around heal up, get ready for him to fly in the air and crash down, rinse and repeat.
    PHASE FOUR
At around 10% or lower he will essentially be defeated, and at this point he will kneel down in which you will gain the objective to finish him off. Cast any damage ability, and you've defeated Molag Bal, Congratulations, you will be teleported and will be able to relax and enjoy the cool RP.
    TIPS
    - Don't bother binding Health potions, they are a waste of time. Always use Magicka and Stamina potions.
    - This isn't a DPS race. although increased damage will help you change phases quicker, staying alive is key.
    - Don't be afraid to run, trust me this will save your life.
    - Block & Dodge
    - I'm positive this encounter is a taster for veteran level content similar to how proving grounds is, for my fellow WoW players. Utilize everything you have to your advantage. Potions, Dodging, Blocking and even trial and error; testing out now skills if you have any points left over.

I don't believe this encounter needs to be nerfed to the ground nor do I believe it should be harder. ZOS please, please, please continue to make these kinds of challenges in the future, whether it be in "raids" or end of content bosses, really reminded me of the warlock green fire quest before it got nerfed.

Then again, as a dunmer DK snb tank i didnt have any issues at all. I could generally just stand their facetanking all his dmg.
(fire resist+ armor + health, magicka and stam regen overcharged)

For any other DK's Inhale is hilarious vs all the titans. If you morph it for mana returned on % dmg done. You got infinite mana (you do more dmg because you got the buff)
Even against molag you can just spam that button for free dmg/heal.

I died a few times only because he'd get close and would do flashlight face at me and that'd instantly kill me.

edit: I was a vampire at the time. Mist Form helped me from getting 1-shot by his fireballs on the way up if I tripped over a rock or something.

I am a sorcerer too and just defeated him using a lightning staff. What I did was to, as some others also already mentioned. Never stand still, move around in a circle around him as far away from him as you can, use the lightning furry at the same time as holding down left mouse button. Never have a minion out, they wont do any good at all and as at least one other also already mentioned, concerning the blue balls. Hold down the block key (right mouse button) and click the left mouse button at the right time. Balls will bounce back and the fiends goes down quickly. And last but not least, the obvious, stay out of the red lighted areas

I beat him using a resto staff and smart blocking, you need to be smart and cant just power your way through it. I just did it in first attempt and I would not consider myself a typical "Boss-Solo'er". The fight is kind of annoying and I happily grabbed some hints from this forum.

    How I did it:
Sorcerer 50 with 5 Light/2 Heavy blue Lvl 50 gear
I used a Restoration Staff with Defending Trait (for whatever it was worth)
Skill Bar for the Molag fight:
    1. Blessing of Protection
    2. Illustrous Healing
    3. Critical Surge
    4. Unstoppable (active skill from Heavy Armor line)
    5. Inner Light

I used the kiting technique and also had enough healing to outlast his stampede, meteor storms etc. Just did heavy attacks with my resto staff, which alone did quite a bit of healing due to critical surge/inner light.
I found out that stamina was more of a problem because of all the dodges and sprints as well as keeping Unstoppable up. After my initial adrenaline ebbed down a bit I had it all in control. It was just wearing Little Mo down by attrition.

I am also happy Mo' did not bugg out but died like a man prince thing god whatever.

I just did this as a sorcerer v1, and yes indeed I thought it was very tough. Probably took me 5 tries. Almost gave up actually. The mistake I made was to try and burn him down early. Had to back up and be completely defensive, getting in shots when I could. When adds popped, block as everyone suggested and aoe down. Last phase is easy as long as you stay "out of the fire". Good luck!

Hey why not just ask a friend or somebody to help you? Oh what? It's forced solo content in an MMO? Ahhhhh that sucks....too bad it couldn't be optional, if people like a challenge and want to solo it then go ahead, if people play for the story and just want to do it with a friend then sure why not? Nice having the options...too bad no options here.

As a cloth wearing sorc, I appreciate the tactics offered by fellow clothies.

However, I find it hilarious to read the non-sorcs drop into this thread and "offer" their opinion as to how easy this fight was for *them*. Really guys and gals, if you've not done this fight as a "traditional" cloth wearing Sorcerer, then essentially your opinion regarding the relative "ease" of this fight is worthless in this discussion. Go and troll another thread please.

Sorcerers wearing full plate and swords, and Nightblades using staffs saying how easy it is? Give me a break.

As for those seemingly "shocked" by the relevation in the thread title....seriously? That's like playing Skyrim, and being surprised that you have to fight a big dragon at the end of the main story. It was pretty much a given.

People say don't use pets. I used both and they died only a few times. They are great for the final phase when you run around a lot. He never focus on them. Free dmg. Surge+Enery overload+Empowered ward and just tap tap away with light attack. I never had to heal once or use any potion.

Ok....this is from the perspective of a "traditional" cloth wearing, damage dealing sorc who did the fight at level 49/50 (dinged part way through the area)....

    Note:
Once you've beaten the first titan at the foot of the stairs at the start of the zone....you don't bother fighting it again if you rez. You can run past it.
Otherwise, the fight is as normal using your normal loadout of spells etc. Maybe lay off the high dmg a bit and let the companions take the aggro.

    Resto Staff
Now, if you have one, using a resto staff has a number of advantages: the "soft" (left click) hit is instantaneous, not like the fire staff where you fire..and have to wait for it to hit. This one advantage will become useful for "fire and run" tactics both on the big bad boss and the mobs just after the ritual. Also, if you have points into the HOT, use it, it helps. But it's not necessarily needed (depending on how good you are at keeping out of line of sight).

    Hotbar Loadout
Once you get to the "ritual" (after the Manni bit), this is when you have to consider changing your load out...yes, it sucks to not go full damage dealing as normal. But there's nothing you can do about that.

For the record, my hotbar load out was as follows:
Surge, Mages Wrath, Bolt Escape, Regeneration, Dark Conversion
(I didn't actually use DC). I also had Overload as my Ultimate Abillity.

    Boss Fight
Forget about Spells with cast times
This is very important for sorcs: Cast times = not being able to move fast enough.
So forget about ANY damage spells you have where there is a cast time involved (this includes the first spell in the Dark Magic tree). Yes it's a heavy hitter, but you're going to get pummelled if MB catches up with you.

In short, if you must use them, use insta-cast spells. For example: Mages Wrath and the HOT on the Resto staff (if you're using one).

    Fight Tactics
Basically....Surge + Overload are the two main ones I used for the Boss Fight.
Because they both increase the "left click" insta-cast damage (so you can "fire and forget" and run like hell behind a rock).

Phase 1: This is a "hit and run" type fight. Keep moving!
Phase 2 (the titans): Block and move.....don't bother doing anything else......just keep that block up.....it will reflect the balls back at the titans and destroy them. Keep moving to keep out of range. Don't bother returning fire. They'll die if you keep blocking.
Final phases: "hit and run" with a lot of hiding behind the rocks as he throws stuff at you. Just keep chipping away using Surge + Overload and left clicking.

That's basically it. DON'T try to play the traditional high damage dealing sorc, it won't work in this fight. Not matter how much you love it (like me).

When the titans come you need to block, when you block you pop a reflective shield. Just block and kind of turn or what not so the nukes they shoot at you will bounce back on them.

Kite, kite, kite, and never, I mean f'n NEVER stop moving. I loaded 3 dots, silver shards, and surge. The amulet of kings lets you reflect blocked spells. use that to your advantage, especially on the Titians. I just ran backwards circles around them and aoe'd between blocks. They die quick like that. As for Molog Bal, kite him around any rocks that you're buy. Like I said before, never stop moving and you'll be fine. I was lucky and 1 shotted him thanks to some of these threads on my 5L/2H destro/restro sorc that was wearing L45-L50 greens and blues.
