Zenimax and Amazon dropped the ball.

So, to recap what we know so far:

ZOS is saying that Amazon sold more copies than they were allotted. Amazon says they sold the amount ZOS allotted them, and then ZOS failed to deliver.

ZOS isn't aware of how many copies Amazon sold, so if it is Amazon at fault they couldn't do anything to fix it. And obviously if ZOS is at fault Amazon couldn't do anything because they don't control how many copies get produced.

    That sound about right?

Oh boy, So ESO is laying the blame on Amazon. So Amazon just pulled my key out of thin air eh? Up until today I was a huge fan of this game. That is why I wanted the stupid box. Were all our keys the same?

Please stop with the intelligence. This isn't the place for that.

I've tried to explain this, Amazon sold only what Zenimax told them they had and Amazon has be communicating with them and didn't know for sure they were not getting the last bundle till yesterday.

Zenimax has failed on 2 fronts. One not keeping eye on supply and demand of Limited/Collectors Editions. Second preventing suppliers to ship until launch day rather BEFORE the 5 days access (3 days if you count downtime due to maintenance and it still has bugs seen in Beta).

Zenimax's solution is going to freeze us out and have customers that will not get physical copy after paying...

Pretty much. This completley turns me off, i don't even want to get in game. Ordered that imp. edition as soon as it came out live, so this is pure BS.

I'm in the same situation, and like most of us, all I'm asking is for a key that would allow me to play the game until I get the physical copy. Personally, I can wait for the statue and the maps and the rest. I have no intentions to cancel my order, and I hate the fact that I was forced to approve the delay of the delivery. We shouldn't be punished this much.

Hey, we are in the same boat. We ordered ours on Feb. 20th and Amazon sent our 5 day early access code and even went so far to send a special email saying that we were now going to get Release day delivery!

Then this morning our time we got the email from them saying that they did not know when they were going to be able to deliver it, same as you.

We have not called Amazon yet as I am waiting for another call to come in this morning.

But, I agree, something is really wrong with Amazons system. I was reading that several other people that had confirmed delivery dates for today woke up to find out that they had the same thing happen.

I hardly ever treat myself to collectors editions of anything but, this one I really wanted and since the both of us are disabled, had to very carefully budget for but managed to make it happen, I thought...........

I wonder if this is related to the local stores claiming to have Game Time cards on preorder, only to have none come launch day after opening the doors to the public... Lol. I ended up just cancelling the order. Meh.

I have no intention of canceling mine as well, which i wont. But it said for me for almost a month the game would be delivered on the 4th. They had months to make sure enough copies were out and the likes. This is utter arrogance, and the least they should is allow people to play until they do get there imperial edition. (if were still even getting them).

I can tell you right now if i dont get mine, im gone. i aint no hot cakes and potatoes, but ive never had an issue like this in all my collectors edition amazon orders, ever.

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with every post. I don't know to be upset with one, the other, or both companies. I really don't want to be upset with either one. I am still hoping they will work together to make this right.

I maintain that I ought to have gotten it at GameStop. I would have my game by now, and I wouldn't be worrying about whether or not I would never get it, or if I would be locked out of the game because of a mistake the company/companies made.

I really wanted the map and the book. We shouldn't be penalized for putting our faith in an online retailer for pre order, and I don't think that it's been handled well by either company.

Sorry, ZOS, I really love you guys, and appreciate your work, but someone dropped the ball on this one.

It does sound more like a ZOS issue than Amazon at this point. Amazon's CS is at least somewhat responsive. They're saying the expected shipment didn't arrive on time and they're trying to figure out the status. Still say they can't guarantee delivery, but that is standard CYA-speak.

With the way there customer service works ZOS, it would be sunday by the time they even saw any of our receipts. I hope they're working this issue out, i am extremely irked by it.

Like most of you, I preordered a physical copy of ESO Imperial Edition in February from Amazon. Today, of course, is release, and at 7:34 A.M. CST, I was sent an email that says the product is not available, and they're trying to obtain more copies. The physical Imperial Editions are a limited run, so the odds of that happening are slim to none. I opened a chat and asked if they could switch the order to digital, and still allow me to keep the preorder bonus. Nope, they can't do that either, according to both the chat rep and Gaming and Software department phone rep to whom I was forwarded.

If early access expires, and my account is frozen, why would I want to bother waiting for the game, and THEN continue to pay a subscription fee? I placed an order from a reputable, authorized reseller. My product isn't going to arrive for one month or more, by no fault of my own. Yet, somehow, the plan is to punish me for someone else's failings. I'm really hoping Zenimax is going to come back with a better solution than this, or I'm probably going to be finding some other game to play. Release day incompetence is a pretty big turn-off.
  • Evil_Jesus
Amazon customer service has been incompetent at best, deceitful at worst. After chatting with an Amazon rep last night, and even so far as getting a 'supervisor' to take over the chat when I refused the first reps offer to placate me with discounts (the guy started at dropping it from $99 to $79, and then so far as $69 with the one-day shipping that I (as well as many others) had already been promised/upgraded to), I've come to the very real conclusion that most of us will not be getting our CEs. The supervisor lied to me various times, saying that I would have it by the promised shipping date (4/4 by 8pm, as I had received an email 12 days ago explicitly telling me I had been upgraded to release date shipping at no charge and would in fact receive it on release date), then telling me he would look into it, then saying he would follow up with his shipping department to see what could be done, then going so far as to say he would follow up with me in 24 hours to 'update' me (why in Molag's name would I need an 'update' if it has been shipped/received as you promised not 5 lines ago, dude?).

So this morning, I rated the rep and Amazon accordingly ('poor' in all areas). After which, I was then prompted for Amazon to give me a call to 'resolve' the issue. Ok, I thought. I'll bite. So I entered my phone number and was connected to a rep. I explained the situation as it stood, and reiterated to him that due to this boondoggle (not the exact word I used; I will say that in my conversation with the phone rep, I only swore/dropped the f-bomb once), I would be cancelling my Prime membership and shopping elsewhere in the future. At this point, the guy says he's going to credit my Amazon account for the cost of the digital Imperial Edition so that I could go ahead and start/continue playing. He further assured me that my new ship date of 4/7 was accurate and that I would have it on this date. He further stated that he would follow up with me on Tuesday, and would cancel my CE order Tuesday if I wished. Quite honestly, I'm not expecting it Monday, if ever, and I'm hesitant in cashing in this 'credit' for the digital Imperial Edition as I don't want to exacerbate this clustercluck any further and lose my account/items/pre-order bonuses/etc.

I've called around to a few local shops, and of course nobody has it. The best I could come away with is if somebody at a Gamestop cancels/fails to pick up their pre-order within 48 hours, I may have a shot at sniping one of those, though it is highly doubtful that I would be successful. Probably one of the least-savoury aspects of all this is that a lot of people considered buying/pre-ordering from a local shop to begin with, but then decided (I know I did) that Amazon would be just as good, because surely Amazon would never in a million years be able to muck things up as badly as they have.

At this point, if I'm not able to get some kind of resolution to this box of bollocks, I'm perfectly willing to say 'the hell with it' and not do business with either company again.

I seem to be in a little different situation than most… I received the email from Amazon last week saying that I would be upgraded to release-day delivery for free. Since then, my delivery date was listed as 4-4-13, so everything looked good. As of yesterday (4-3-13) nothing had changed. This morning, release day, my shipping status changed to "Preparing for shipment" and that's where it's been ever since. I have NOT received ANY other emails from Amazon - I did not receive the "sorry we ran out" email or anything like that. My delivery date still says today (lol), but obviously that's not going to happen.

So I have no clue if I'm getting one or not, because nothing has updated nor have I received any emails to let me know. This is ludicrous. We are paying customers who had basically said, "yes, you can have our money," and they (Amazon and/or Zenimax) have failed to deliver. I don't care how limited the Imperial Edition is/was - I'd better get mine. By preordering, I was, in effect, promised a copy, and now I have no idea if that's going to happen. This is bad business. And frankly, even though I had fun in early access, I don't even feel like playing anymore, especially since I'll be locked out on Sunday.

Be careful how you handle this, Zenimax.

I'm late to the party and I'm not reading 5+ pages of posts but TC:

GameStop received extra copies of the physical Imperial Edition. When I went into GS to pick up my IE. the employee asked if I wanted an extra because all stores in the area received extra copies of the IE for sale.

So if you don't want to wait on Amazon especially since they haven't charged you yet, go to your local GS and buy an extra IE they have for sale.

Amazon was given keys, which they gave to us as someone mentioned earlier... I'm not upset with Amazon at all, they gave me a key because they were expecting stock, and the supplier dropped the ball. I'm willing give this game a pass now.. I've got plenty of other things to play if they screw us over on the pre-order status.

It should noted that if you pre ordered from Amazon, you should gave received an early access/preorder code. In theory that should allow you to keep the pre-order bonuses.

    Purely speculative.

If course is someone would give us some info, speculation would not be needed.

Keep you chat transcripts. Amazon is notorious for giving you a lesser item for "in the mean time" then saying you got the full version afterwards. They tried that on me twice. I submitted my chat transcript and they were forced to find me the item I ordered, and they also refunded me for the same amount. Free item for them trying to play dirty. (Thanks for the free $500 camera Amazon and 120$ watch, Amazon!)

Amazon has acknowledged this issue, and the company has said that if customers do not receive their Imperial Edition today, Amazon will contact them with a “make good” offer.

Players who were eligible for Early Access can still play without a game activation code from a physical box until Sunday morning at 8 a.m. EDT.

    We are continuing to investigate.

Alan, what is the "make good" offer? Usually Amazon only gives a credit for things shipped AND sold by Amazon, which are only usually books and movies, so unless they give people digital collectors edition game keys, it's kind of useless.
