Bank Account Being Charged?

I bought this game on this website, paid $89 for it, which was a stretch for a game, and now I have to pay more before I can access the "free" 30 days that supposedly came with the game ?

    I don't think "free" means what they think it means . . . .

I don't mind setting up a payment method as is required in most other MMO games, but simply don't want to pay for anything in advance before I have used the time alloted with the game purchase, I would have thought the $89 payment would be plenty for "verification"...

Would really like to hear something from zenimax on this, is this not open to being changed ? (if it is %100 required to pay before playing the free time, I still haven't seen it explicitly mentioned).

It's a pre-auth, meaning they hold the full amount of the subscription plan you pick to verify your billing information is valid. They money WILL return to your account but can take a few days for some banks or payment methods.

Funny... it doesn't seem to be much of a problem to the german community. In the german custumer support forum it was a player giving info about this stuff. Its still less than a half page of comments, and someone from ZOS even answered :)
I guess they're waiting for this, uh... Storm to come to an end. I mean, honestly, what point is there in answering, if it 1. gets spammed away anyway, and 2. wont satisfi anyone, as all they can say are things already said by other players?

No, it's not exactly great, and I'm currently heavy thinking wether or not I will use the last money I have for a Gamecard, or will wait until next month or even the one after that, because I also got some debts.

In any case, why not consider stopping this madness? Give them a break, and eventualy there will be a statement.

So basically, because I only have about $12 in my bank (I'm between paydays), I'm not going to be able to play the game I ALREADY PAID FOR until next week when I have enough to cover the authorization?

What kind of nonsense is this!?

    Deposit $3 dollars

Fantastic advice, smart guy. Except that I won't have three dollars to deposit until the end up next week when I get paid.

Some people spent their entertainment budget to PURCHASE a game that came with FREE game time. Now they have to temporarily pay for that free game time but they don't have money in their entertainment budget left to do that.

Some people have enough money to survive, and enjoy themselves as well, but they just budget carefully and avoid impulse spending. Don't be an ass just because this doesn't affect you.

Yup totally right, it doesn't affect me but I would have expected them to do this with 1$ or 2$ exactly as how paypal is doing instead of testing the exact price.

Hmm it seems like there was a response in Official Discussing Thread for Launch and new trailer when @bjeardoeb14_ESO and I made them aware of this issue once again..

Not the response we expected I guess:"

Funny thing is, I -have- the money to pay for a 60 day period, but they don't like Visa Gift cards anymore (they only liked it when I bought the game, it seems). As for Game Time cards and codes? They are sold out everywhere I've looked, and Zenimax don't even allow a one time 60 day purchase, like I usually do with ALL MMO's I've played - pre-paid game time card or code.

It's not a $1 charge it's a pre-auth for the full amount which is what is screwing a lot of people over.

Let's start with then morons that keep saying if you can't afford 15 bucks you shouldn't play... that's as moronic as it gets.

Also, it's not even factual in plenty of cases. Some people use online only credit cards with low balances so that they can't be stolen from, especially with debit cards, because your bank doesn't refund stolen money the way credit card companies do in some cases.

In any case, you fools are blaming customers for vendor blunders... how awesome you must be. lol

That's what I've been saying all along, almost EVERY company does $1, hell even trials for the adult industry do it that way, haha.

Thank you for choosing the 30-Day subscription for The Elder Scrolls® Online
When your current Game Time expires, you will be billed $15.00AUD + applicable taxes for another 30 days of Game Time.

Was NOT charged at all, no transaction was made to my bank, no money was taken from my account...

I thought it sounded a bit off, it seems like if that's happening to some people it must be from game codes / ?

If I want to cancel the payment I can do so before the 30 day free play is up, but if I'm playing the game it stands to reason I would want a sub. Starting to look like a mountain out of a mole hill.

no it is not, it's the full amount (unless they have changed things in the past few mins), so if you worked out that in 2 weeks when you get paid you have enough for a 6 month sub, so you tick that option, you will get something like £41 authorised

And it doesn't warn you ,it implies nothing is being authorised.

It doesn't matter how short a time they have that money allocated, while it is allocated, you don't have access to it and for some it will cause problems.

I used an account with $0 in it to sub, it could not have taken any money out immediately because it would have bounced, it clearly says it will charge the account when the 30 days free game time has expired.

Calm a bit, and check it out before posting (unlike me who had a spit then tried it and realised what actually happens).

I wonder if all the people having trouble with it are choosing a subscription ?

Because if that's the issue just setup the sub and if you really don't want the game after the next few weeks, cancel it and no money will be taken or reserved or touched in any way from your account.

The biggest problem legally for them and why we don't hear from them is they charged the full amount without telling you they were going to. At no time during the process do they tell you they will be accessing your credit card funds.. This is illegal.

Point blank, If your credit score takes a hit because they had to decline a credit hit that you supposedly agreed to, it's a problem.

Entertainment is not something that has to paid. And I don't live in the US.

I think is common sense to spend accordingly to what you make moneywise.

If you don't have 15 bucks to spend on videogames don't subscribe to a 15 dollar/month game. I want a Ferrari, can't afford it tough, it's entertainment as well.

I'd wait a while and check your bank account again, it varies by bank, i didn't notice my charge until an hour later, but mine was done with a normal mastercard and it's definitely still on my account.

While I do agree that the holding money for authorisation is a tad archaic these days, vending machines that accept credit card will hold the value of the most expensive item in the machine as authorisation prior to billing for the correct amount for the item purchased... food for thought (or drink... no pun intended).

Call it trolling, or whatever you wish to call it, but what some people have said does have merit. While budgeting for entertainment expenses is very wise, and I definitely recommend it, if you haven't got wriggle money, then you probably shouldn't be spending your money on online games.

Then why come to a thread you have no business in and start doing just that! wailing?! The f wrong with you?

I have a job, and make plenty of money to shoulder a pre-auth, the fact of the matter is that this is against industry standard, and that they failed to indicate they'd be making any sort of a charge or hold on your account when you set up your subscription, in fact they go so far as to say no charges will appear on your bank account until your game time expires, and that's completely 100% inaccurate.

    i.e. Sod off.

The polite voice of reason, how nice the human race is sometimes.

People budget to play. They WILL have the money in 30 days time, that have already SAVED up the money to preorder the game.

What they did not expect was to have to have next months $15 now. And some haven't got it now even for a temporary authorisation.

And people were NOT told this would happen when they did give their card details, hence people are rightly annoyed.

If when people set up their payments it came up and said they were going to authorise $15 now but ot would be returned asap, those without the funds wouldn't have continued. But it said 0.00 was being charged.

Instead of being rude to people and jumping to conclusions, try to read a few of the posts about what people are complaining about first, and try having a bit of empathy for your fellow humans, you will be a much nicer person if you do.
