I'm starting to freaking hate ZOS, they better fix this! I can't even play my 30 days free without entering a credit card?!?! WTF

I have no problem giving my billing info to activate my account, but it is unacceptable to charge for the second month when we don't even know if we'll play for more than 30 days.

Hope its just an authorization and it disappears after the card is approved.

oh they can respond on this post but not to the ones about people not even being able to log in. great job

They like to take your money, that is more important i would think.

How is responding here any indication that they "like to take your money"? The response was aimed to be helpful. No need to act like a ten year old.

As the representative said you probably haven't been billed. Pre-auth is very common, and doesn't actually take the money from your card, even if it shows up on the list. One way to check this would be to look at the balance, before and after the credit statement. It should be the same, but look like a transaction.

I can't believe people are actually surprised about this; All MMO's I've encountered has required you to enter your card information once, even if they include a free month. Yes, even WoW.

To all of you without credit cards, which should be very few considering the age limit of the game: Ask your parents to enter their card information, then just cancel the subscription if you dont want them paying for it. Since it won't be "taken" before your 30 days end, or not at all if you cancel it.

I don't use credit cards as a general rule, and my age has nothing to do with it. ^^; I just prefer using pre-paid cards. Soooo much easier than all the credit card hassle.

i just can tell ya.. what an admin did tell us in the german section :

you need a CC / paypall / bankaccount ( gtc ?! not sure about that since he didnt say smt about that ) to certificate your account. Otherwise you wont be able to play at monday. So you can´t use your payed 30 days of playing.
the money will be refunded... if you cancel your subscription right after the "purchase".

If you use something like paysafe or playspan .. you actual buy another 30 days and you dont get a refund at all.

What I want to know is why the paypal subscription offer tells me it's a 15 dollar immediate charge. Paypal is bad enough but I don't want my information in zenimax's database especially with this potential disaster in the making.

I used paypal but what happened is that it was processed like a normal transaction for the full amount but posted as cancelled fairly quickly (takes longer for some people, though). So nothing was ever actually charged just a temporary hold that dropped off quickly. I hope that helps somewhat!

PayPal initially gives you an email about the subscription transaction being successful, and upon going to your PayPal account the charge will be 'in progress'. It will take a few minutes for this to be changed to cancelled by ZOE, but it nonetheless confuses PayPal, and in turn, PayPal users.

It certainly is a strange way to handle launch. I found out they cancelled the charges themselves, but imagine how many people won't realize and cancel their orders instead? ZOE does a *** poor job of providing explanations in the account upgrade process.

This is rather ridiculous, I have never had to enter my CC details for ANY MMO I have ever (including WOW) store purchased, then played and I am not going to start now.

And if I wanted to go purchase a time card I have to make my way back to the store, purchase a time card, then come back home again just to play. Just to activate my 30 days. Seems a bit to ridiculous and a waste of petrol.

It would have been a shame if anyone just wanted to enter their code/s, chill out and start playing TESO, without any confusing and/or troubles. But apparently that is to absurd.
  • MrSwaggity
Lol it took $30 from my bank account, because something screwed up on their side. It really ticks me off, I would have been okay with the $15, but being billed $30 because apparently my details didn't go through correctly the first time..when it did. Just annoys me so much.

So I really am hoping that I get this $30 back, because my account balance and avail balance is that $30 apart.

P.s After finding out that they had billed me, I cancelled the subscription (since i want to play it for 30days first to see if i shall continue). So I hope that doesn't affect me getting my $30 back.

Here is what it shows in my Paypal Account, which was automatic:
03 Apr 2014 Authorization To Zenimax Online Studio

    Canceled

The seller canceled this payment, and the money has been returned to your account.

Details Authorization To Zenimax Online Studio 5HH40370 -€12.99 EUR

The charge could also be seen on my CC and is sitting under "Uncleared" , so i assume it will just drop off.

It immediately required me to set up a subscription and then charged me for the first month. It says it will charge me again on 4 May 2014. What happened to my free month?

Rather aggravated right now, I must admit. This is pretty low.

An authorization to check a card is valid should only be for a nominal amount ie £1 or $1 say. Putting a full amount authorization on is extremely bad practice as it makes that money unavailable until the authorization drops off, normally after a week sometimes two. Banks also won't normally remove an authorization as they have no way of knowing the company won't claim it. The only way to actually have it removed before it drops off is for the company that placed it to phone their merchant bank and have it taken off.

This bad practice of Zenimax of authorizing with the full amount implies no one should purchase a 3,6,9 month sub, because the full amount is going to sit there on your CC under "unclear/pending" for like 2 weeks before it drops off . So you don't have access to that money while it is there, and then 2 weeks later they charge you for real...so it's rather absurd.

Anyhow i don't think this has anything to do with where you bought the game from, it's a Zenimax billing issue.

This is a pretty terrible way to set up your gametime/sub. - points to Zenimax. Get your account/billing set up straight, without the hidden loopholes when you advertise a product with 30 days of game time. Other companies can and have done it properly. Please get on board or start loosing people just to the hassle of your system.

2 weeks? pre auth usually doesnt take more than a couple of hours. Get your facts straight before acting like a baby.

So how did you bypass WoWs system? Since that also requires you to input CC information OR insert a game card-code to access your included 30 days.

We understand your frustration and want to reiterate what some folks here have already stated:

Players setting up their subscription plan using Visa, MasterCard or PayPal may see an initial transaction against their account. However, this transaction is only temporary. The charge represents an authorization check against the account provided, and will be removed once the authorization check is complete. For players using American Express, the transaction is also temporary although the authorization check against their account may take anywhere from 3-7 days to resolve.

This isn't a charge, it only checks if your credit card really exists. The "charge" will disappear after a couple of days and the real amount will be charged automatically when the 30 days of game time expires.

If you don't want to be charged automatically, you need to cancel the subscription in your account. After the 30 days you'll need to setup a new subscription and cancel it again.

All MMOs works like that, I'm not sure why everyone is panicking...
