Continuation of Patcher Reinstall Issues

  • tjkick_ESO
So just completed the 22+ gig reinstall of ESO. Now its repairing and "applying patch" for the forth time. If i cant play after this repair I think I may be done with Zenimax. Also will be sure to discourage others for falling into this trap.

So any word if this is fixed yet, I'm scared to even start the launcher. No way can I redownload this again...
  • tjkick_ESO
Doesn't seem to be even close to being fixed as of yet. No mods have responded to this post from a long time.

I guess my internet provider is enjoying this with me driving up my bandwidth usage for the month. Hopefully i don't break past my cap and get charged for over my monthly usage. You think someone from ESO staff would tell us to wait or patch or something by now when was last time they posted hours ago.

I wish I was getting the 80Mb/s I was getting last week downloading the client again. :(

The lack of an update is disheartening. It seemed like our issue was important...they even created a new thread once the other thread bugged out. I am not going to let this thread die if I can help it. This issue is too important. I spent 6 hours off and on troubleshooting this trying to help myself and others while giving updates every step of the way...why do I have to be the one doing that? The ONLY suggestion to a fix was something WE had identified as being NOT possible for the majority of us back on like page 2 of the original post...
  • LunarMedic
So I finally got my download to hit 100% after repairing it (download only went to 25% before patching last time..), the game is now applying a patch of 24850MB. Is this the typical patch amount? The patching is so slow..

This doesn't work. There is no longer a repair option. The patch deleted all the original files.

No way that's gonna be happening. I had this downloaded and patched well before the early access started. But now we're stuck re-downloading it with all the people who didn't do it before launch and now the traffic is unbearably slow. I'm pretty sure this isn't even a p2p dl, just a direct dl.

I tried to patch and repair options. It downloaded the whole game in data files and then extracted them. Now I have a ESO folder and a Elder scrolls ONline folder each aprox 40+ GB and it is still repairing. Do I go to sleep and hope to the Nine Divines that is doesn't make more folders and fill up my 300 GB hard drive?

If you go into the ESO main game folder > Client and just run ESO.EXE then it just bypasses the launcher and goes to the login screen. I'm playing now due to that.

    I just finished my re-installation. Downloaded slowly @ 2.0mbps taking 4-5 hours, once I got to 88% it applied a 5gb patch which downloaded @ 96mbps.
game works fine now for me.

What would happen if you purge the launcher folder and re-download the launcher would it pickup the pre-installed version of the game or just go in limbo + right now players in game are facing massive rollback glitches while doing quests so even though we can't play just thank we are not getting that headache.

Someone asked this before the closing and I actually wonder what would happen if we try it like that.

Is the Launcher able to locate already existing files? It should after all if we disconnect or close the download procedure it picks up where it stopped. Id like to try that hmm...

    That said,

since I can play with the ESO.EXE, I better don't play around too with the launcher as I cant make a copy of my game files due limited HD space.

I have done this many times:

First when the NDA was lifted and all my friends were able to get keys I threw a Saturday lan party for ESO beta weekend. There was no way I was letting 10 guys download 22GB so we started the download and let it create the directories and registry entries and then copied over my full install to their directory. Worked perfectly on 10 different PC's. The installer is smart enough to realize it doesn't need to download anymore. In this case the installer is acting up and it probably won't be able to determine it is already installed as this is the root cause issue.

Second, when I had the beta client and went to final build for early access the AMD Gaming Evolved app wouldn't detect my install as there was something different about the Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe file. So I downloaded the official launcher and installed it over the top and it was immediately ready to go without re-downloading the whole game.

So this concept is sound and tested by me and proven to work quite well; HOWEVER the issue is with the smart launcher detection routine which the above 2 rely on and is not working properly now.

When I do that and click on the ESO executable it loads the launcher and I am back to square one patching and loading and patching and loading OH MY. I cannot bypass this crazy Ground Hog Day Movie scenario it seems a endless loop.

Yeah but the problem is none of the patches are getting applied that way..

While you are playing just let the launcher redownload it. Thats what I am doing. The other 'workarounds' didnt work for me, so this is all i can do.

If it's my first time downloading do I have to wait for the 23gb patch to finish?

okay reloaded the whole thing and repaired. it was patch after patch but I got on finally. I am going to try to relog and get back in and see if the launcher works after this. Wish me luck.

Same problem! Any update? I'm at least able to run it via the ESO.exe file for now ...

Most people can't access the game entirely. The weird part about my version of this issue is that my EU selected launcher works fine (I had both sides patched before today because of a sister guild on the EU side). I select EU and it pops up with "Play." I select NA and it pops up with "Install."

So because I only have a 120GB SSD I had to resort to backing up both the NA and EU client on my backup HD and then delete the NA files/uninstall the launcher. Then I reinstalled the launcher and I am in the middle of the download now. If, now IF, it works....that is a HUGE pain in someone's ass.

I personally don't have a backup game and run a guild in ESO, but if I was at all on the fence about playing this certainly wouldn't help...then the lack of communication/support...it feels like the January (I think) or February beta all over again when they were trying to break the record and we were dealing with a broken server but no one would communicate with us what was going on/when a fix was coming/etc/etc.

Ok guys, try this workaround. It may not work for everyone, but fingers crossed that it will work for you!

    1. Cancel the patch
    2. Use the repair feature in the patcher
    3. Let it repair completely
    4. Click play when finished

Let us know if that works.

@ZOS_GinaBruno, there's no repair option if the install option appears :(

    Hmm, ok. Stand by!

This was the last post 4 hours ago....Hmm, ok doesn't sound very promising does it lol

Well the game works finally after this update..repair..download. It ran slow at times and fast download at others. I tried the client 3 times exiting it and entering the game and it seems to work however I still have 2 folders one ESO and another Elder Scrolls Online. I was going to delete one but it seems both have different data in them, which is strange.

I have tried re-installing from scratch because these other things being suggested have not worked and I've gotten the 210 error twice now. The repair button shows up but when I click it, it immediately fails and brings up 210 again. What is going on here?

So is the launcher issue fixed or still persisting? Thankfully I'm not home from work yet, so I dont need to play right now.

I also dont know how people can find it acceptable to have this level of instability in a released game and just write off with "but this always happens in MMO releases" If less people were so blaise about it, developers would be less inclined to release a half finished product.

This is my first venture into sub based MMO and I have to say I'm less than impressed. I'm going to have to stop complaining about GW2 at this rate.

hmm I was checking forums on the 210 error some said they unplugged their router modem for 30 secs and replugged it in to reset it and got on. If you type the 210 error in top search bar and check you will see hope this helps.
