Continuation of Patcher Reinstall Issues
Maintenance for the week of March 17:

Natai✭✭At some point during this latest update, while clicking "repair" and "install".. the Client folder including the eso.exe was deleted. Even choosing "repair" in the game options does not work. It will check for the files and then begin downloading the 22GB.
I would NOT recommend canceling any installation. Once you realize this doesn't work, you will have to start the download all over again.
My thoughts exactly.
Restoring or replacing the launcher is not going to bring back a deleted directory.1 -

Some fixes work for some people and then don't for others. BE AWARE that any of these fixes being posted may just waste more time.
I really don't like "work arounds". They're temporary fixes, at best. If my game directory is completely missing I'm just going to re-download.1 -
Kaspar✭✭✭I can verify that restoring the .version files fixes the launcher. After copying them over from my other computer the launcher did a ~50MB patch and the PLAY button is back.1 -

"D:\Zenimax Online\Launcher\Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe" /InstallOrRun "ESO_Beta"
Don't know if this is what is causing the problem but I removed the "/InstallOrRun "ESO_Beta"" from it and re-downloaded the game. Now it works.0 -

My thoughts exactly.
Restoring or replacing the launcher is not going to bring back a deleted directory.
Not everyone lost their files (like me).
For people logging/coming in the future this will help.
There is nothing anyone can do for those people save re-download and I would think that is rather obvious.

The key phrase there is "After copying them over from my other computer..."I can verify that restoring the .version files fixes the launcher. After copying them over from my other computer the launcher did a ~50MB patch and the PLAY button is back.
So this may help prevent this mess in the future, but it will not bring back your files without a backup.

prawfet✭✭just deleted every elder scrolls online folder from my pc and the launcher still just says play and not update / repair or install

I deleted the "Launcher" folder from the directory in program files and am re-installing it. Hopefully it works. I'll updating when I'm done.0

I restored the three .version files from my Time Machine backup and now the game is just patching, as opposed to trying to reinstall from scratch. Thanks so much!
Yeah if you were using the files from the last version it will have to patch but I'm so glad it worked for you
I'm not sure if everyone else having this issue is missing these files but I know at least one other person from our guild also was. 1 -

Ive repaired and redownloaded some mystery 5gig update 3 times now. No luck every time. After the last repair it gave me the play button, then it immediately crashes as soon as i hit it. Just going to redownload the full 22gigs. And if that doesnt fix this, I dont even know how upset I will be.
I was patient for all the downtimes for maintenance. Patient for the 12+ hours of downtime the other day too. Was questing in stormhaven before the game went down for the worldwide launch. Now it looks like I wont be able to play for the very least several hours after the game has launched "worldwide", missing primetime with my friends and my guild.
Game launch or not, these kind of problems should not be brushed off as "launch hiccups". I too will be awaiting a hefty apology. Even if they do provide one, I still wont forget the issues I had and the upset i felt.1 -
Kaspar✭✭✭I was just reporting that restoring the .version files does appear to fix the launcher and for whatever reason when the patch first went live it seems to have removed those files from the folders depot, game, and vo_en in the hopes that it helps the company figure out a fix for those not afflicted by the entire game folders/files deletion problem.Edited by Kaspar on April 4, 2014 12:46AM1

I am currently trying to patch the launcher manually, I get back to you guys if it worked.
That works fine. I have been playing for a while. I can patch the EU side and click "Play" just fine. I just can't use the Launcher for the NA side.
It would be really inconvenient to have to delete both my NA and EU install off of my SSD to get enough room to reinstall the NA side and then copy that over and make another EU folder just to fix this...
Or alternatively I could just patch the EU side and copy it over to the NA side after EVERY single patch...that sounds fun.

MsSvig✭I am currently running the game via the ESO.exe thus bypassing the launcher completely. This is of cause not viable in the long run. But at least I am able to play while the ESO team figure out a solution that does not involve having to redownload the intire game0

The result was always the same,
the launcher does not recognize that I have the game installed. If I delete files the launcher just replaces them with new ones. While I can play, I am unable to patch my game and even re installing or changing the version from NA to EU doesn't let me get past the install button which I cant hit due my limited HD space.
I hope they give us a new launcher soon, before they patch their server again
A good launcher should recognize my already installed game, it should see that it doesn't need 60 GB of space to fix whatever is broken.0 -

I'm not finding it very funny unfortunately, Those of us with slower connection need an alternate downloading method the launcher is ridiculously slow. If the client was available as a download so we could store it on our back up drives it would make this process much less painful. I'm presently looking at 60kB/s speeds atm after the launcher completely deleted my game folders I'm speechless1 -

I am in the boat with you. The only difference is the launcher works fine for my EU install. So it is kind of funny as I switch to EU and I get the Play option and then I switch back to NA and get the install option. I have done EVERYTHING under the moon to fix this.
Deleted and reinstalled launcher - Check
Copied over the launcher and game settings files from my wife's computer - Check
Deleted the /InstallorRun in the shortcut - Check
Etc Etc Etc

I've tried to use the bypass with running eso.exe as administrater and it gives me a Fatal Client Error (Error 12) message. This is not cool.0

Ok I've reinstalled the launcher it says PLAY afterward but when I tried it the game crashed and gave me the (Error 12) crash report...0
