A new Perspective on Teabagging

    For me, teabagging is simply the way to show my disrespect to an enemy when:

    1) they always run with a group and zerg down everyone (solo players, PvE players), and especially if they always run away from the fight when they ended up separated from their group.
    Few years ago, there used to be the a player who behaved like that, and there were many situations when enemy players saw people of other alliances chasing him, and nobody interrupted such chase.

    2) they are in gank squad and always run away when they can't stealth
    Not just any ganker, it's similar to the first case.

    During the last IC event I saw a team of 2 nightblades with similar names who complimented each other while chasing solo/PvE players. Their names were related to Incap and sounded so hilarious and awesome for their play style that I didn't show disrespect to any of them :smiley: I love when someone has funny/clever character name in PvP!

    3) they always interrupt me when I fight boss/duel other player
    There are enemy players with whom I could kill IC bosses safely - and we didn't fight afterwards so that everyone can deposit their tel var stones.
    Or if I see enemy player(s) killing the boss and I don't need any loot from this boss/don't have beef with those players, I leave them all alone and don't spoil their potential tel var gains.
    But sometimes you see a player who comes after you and ignores the boss totally, each time :|
    Or when both duel participants (or their allies nearby) focus the player interrupting them and show disrespect to such behavior ;)

    Sometimes it's also done for fun and tease. For example, when me and enemy player don't fight for some reason (everyone watches a duel) or we already fought before (maybe we have even shown some disrespect to each other in the past) and are just hanging around - they can start teabagging the empty ground (or when our characters stand on top of each other) :D That's too hilarious!

    When I see an enemy player teabag my ally, or my ally teabags enemy player, I don't think of any of them negatively - it's PvP and everyone has their reason to tease/show disrespect. Never anyone actually does it to simulate something bad from real life, it's really weird to even think about it.

    Honestly, if I wasn't reading such threads on forums, I would never know that a thought about it can occur from witnessing someone crouching in ESO.

    I understand that it's the humiliating feeling of failure when the character dies that makes some people uncomfortable. In such case, every action/emote the enemy player does can "offend", even if this enemy is just standing there with their weapon drawn... menacingly! :o

    PvP without emotes and friendly/rival roleplay between players is just a boring AP farming game mode.

    P.S.

    I also play PvP in GW2.There is no crouch mechanic in GW2, so when people want to teabag, they jump on the body of their foes. Jumping action looks absolutely harmless...
    In WvW they can also drop siege on the dead enemy
    - it's considered as even bigger sign of disrespect, even if it looks silly and unrelated to anything at all :)

    I just don't understand the wish to go into aggressive game mode and then try to punish the display of rivalry from enemy players... Even if there was no way to crouch, any other action/emote could be claimed "offensive" by someone then.
    Even if you lose in PvP, you get something out of it - time is not entirely lost. You get less than the winners but never zero. Be it token currency, or PvP XP which contributes to other rewards.

    While it sounds really logical, I can't confirm that it's entirely true... There must be something more in Final Fantasy then, and you've made me curious about it :)
    My personal experience of other game is GW2, and all game modes with PvP are extremely toxic there. In sPvP (ESO Battlegrounds analogue) even loss earns you progress to your rewards:

    10 points (+1 for being top damage/healer etc) for win

    3 points (+1 for top stats, +2 if both teams had very close score in the end of the match) for loss

    You always get rewards, only speed at which you get them changes based on win/loss! Yet, I've personally never seen so much hate displayed both to enemies and allies than what I've seen in GW2 :/

    I got some BG recognition on PS5 a long time ago. I think I was playing against a guildmate and got a team player recognition. I don’t know how it works, though. I don’t do BGs much, it’s not my preference.

    Why so many people are delicate little flowers that get triggered over such minor things. It's just animation that not hurt you in any way. I'm more upset about Azureblight nerf that will affect PVE experience like trials.

    I strongly disagree with the op here : no automatic measure can be a solution, because the problem is not teabagging in itself, it's the intent behind : teabagging is merely a mean to it, one who has become quite infamous ( and is widely accessible ) - but disable the crouching animation and people will find other way to express their intent.

    Emoting - disable emoting near players corpses ?
    Memento - disable memento near players corpses ?
    Sitting - disable sitting near players corpses ?
    Jumping - disable jumping near players corpses ?
    Running around - disable running near players corpses ?
    Standing on - disable... what ?
    Shooting / weaving weapons - disable attacks near players corpses ?
    Casting ground targeted spells - disable ground targeted spells near players corpses ?
    Switching between bars - disable switching between bars near players corpses ?

    Ok at this point, you either entirely block a possibly huge zone around players corpses, wich will have hilarious consequences because, hey, there can still be fighting around them, or you phase out players corpses, wich can be... weird I guess because players corpses are meant to be resurectable.

    Maybe make you screen no longer display other players when you're dead ? That most likely won't stop teabagging, but hey, you will no longer see it.

    And what about pm ? Say a ganker just killed you, you just couldn't do anything, and he messenge you 'Close fight' ? I mean, how do you judge the disrespect in this message from a moderation point of view ? It's quite evident for either players that's it's ironic, but to prove it, and enforce moderation for this message ?

    Report players, if necessary bring evidences, I know it's a long and penible process, but I don't thing there's a lot of other solutions if any.

    IMO, many have problems coping with losing and being teased, so they escalate the issue outside the boundaries of the game in an attempt to get the other player back any way they can. What is truly wounded is their ego.

    And then there are a lot of good-meaning people who aren't affected when another player crouches and uncrouches repeatedly, but have empathy for those who are and buy the narrative they've attached to it.

    I believe those who say they are triggered when another player crouches on them because of past traumas. I legitimately sympathize with those players. However, it's not practical to make endless rules and accommodations for everyone who has experienced a trauma that makes a benign activity feel hostile. I've experienced traumas too, but I can't expect every random stranger to dance around potential triggers.

    Teabagging is not a function in ESO. It only exists if one thinks it does.

    This whole thing gets nullified by anyone wearing that mythic that activates by crouching -_-
    Grand Master Crafter, Beta baby who grew with the game. PC/NA. @Sheezabeast if you have crafting needs!

    Or by any other playstyle that requires any form of Stealth like the Vampire passive or certain sets but people will always argue, there is no solution for this. The only thing you can do is keeping your cool but some are unable to do this for various reasons. As long as someone gets offended there will be someone to complain.
