Funny how Zerith-Var can just use necromancy skills and the guards don't care.
There are several necromaner skills that are not an criminal act, and really, having a necromancer companion that would give you a bounty or make guards angry would be an awful decision.

This decision to make Companion abilities not give the player a bounty (which would make as much sense as giving your group members a bounty when you're the one casting Criminal Act abilities) means that when we eventually get Companion Vampires and Werewolves, their abilities likely won't give the player a bounty, either. I think that's a good thing, and it gives me a lot to look forward to.

Zerith-var is one of my favorite companions! I was a bit wary when I heard that he was supposed to be a good guy, but I ended up enjoying his personality and story. Tanlorin, on the other hand... I don't really care much about them. I don't hate them, but their questline was kinda poorly written. Though I gotta say that portal furnishing is nice so I will likely level Tan to lvl20 when/if I have time.

Tanlorin for me for my High Elf character I will be making plus paying 10 dollars is enough for one companion when they were giving theme for free then say another way to over monetize something in the game. Just cant justify the cost in crowns for both for a race I don't play Argonians not a big fan of the race overall.

How much would it cost to get ESO+ for just one month to unlock both companions for free (whilst ESO+ is active). Once you unlock them, you get to keep them forever even if you cancel ESO+. Wouldn’t that be cheaper than even buying just one companion for Crowns?

Probably depends on the area in which s/he lives?

One month of ESO Plus is about the same price as the companion pack (both companions).

Both companions, as a bundle, are 1500 Crowns. In the store, that is US$14.99 from the ZOS store.
ESO Plus, one month, is US $14.99 from ZOS, and comes with 1650 Crowns.

Platforms and different currencies might be different, but it going to be close to the same, I think.

ESO Plus or buying them with Crowns, from what I understand, they are permanently unlocked after purchase from the Crown Store.

In Estonia, one month of ESO+ costs 12.99€, same with the 1.5k pack of Crowns. I'd go for ESO+, especially if you need to clear your inventory a bit.

This more so as it could simply be that you pulled some trash animal into an town and companion attacks it.
And its not like you bother changing companion setup for that.
Also I don't think Zerith-var would want to go very dark, he is more lawful good than Miri, not to talk about Ember or Sharp.
Now his story has been excellent so far.

I just leveled Tanlorin to 20 and they have very good dots. I made a Medium, Quickened, Bow dps and I'm getting 10k+ dps single target. They might be the best dps companion.

It took about 3 minutes for Tanlorin to kill one of the Alik'r bosses with 1.8m health. (10.2k dps)

And Tanlorin? Geez, I thought that Bastian was annoying but here we have completely new level. Seriously, why this character behave and talks like constantly overhyped, annoying kid? This is not being joyfull and happy person, this is just infantile. We have already Ember with this vibe, but she was ok-ish with it - Tanlorin is just worse version of this.

I feel the same way. I've been dying for an altmer companion since Blackwood. I didn't really have any preferences for them besides being mature and more on the stoic side.

I'm so disappointed with Tanlorin's personality, like, I really have no words. I was prepared to have to headcanon some things like making them magey, but they're so extremely far from what I wanted that I actually don't think I can do it. I'm so sad about it.

I finished the last of Tanlorin's quests today and overall I find them pretty OK, especially compared to their intro quest. There were a bunch of moments where they took a more serious tone and I really think that kind of personality across the board (ie. no feistiness) could've fit an altmer companion just fine without even changing their quest story. But I do think it could've been better, and I still don't like how the devs overall went with a bubbly kid-like rogue vibe for Tanlorin.

I've gone with headcanoning them as a kind of rogue mage that doesn't like the Mages Guild, had bad history with it, etc, which covers their comments related to Mages Guild stuff for the most part.

While I still don't like their hair or eyes design, I came to like their tattoos a lot actually. In fact IMO it would've been cool if their story were more or mostly about that and their relationship with magic. Would've worked well with the personality I had in mind for an altmer companion too, I think.

Of course, I will collect them and do their storylines, and then they will become houseguests. The companion storylines are usually worth doing. And I will use them as houseguests, when I get around to doing their houses.

But use them for actual gameplay? I need a talking pet why? I usually have to be reminded to summon a companion when we do a group thing that needs extra bodies, but they can't stand on pressure plates, they can't resurrect you, and their builds don't leave any opportunity for something exciting and interesting to try.

Just recently I've gone back to playing Guild Wars again, and the heroes there have made me think I should really really try and give the companions a second chance. And then I look at the special currency armour, and the special currency skills, and I think ... I'll go take a nap instead.

I've started both quests for Tanlorin and Zerith-Va.

Zerith speaks in proper Khajjiti unlike Ember. He apparently doesn't like Caldwell (I feel the same way!). He helps me find heavy sacks, likes it when harvest mats. We get along well.

Tonlorin, I haven't traveled with her much. She has this dislike of coffee apparently?

He doesn't speak in third person, though, which is a little strange, unless we assume there was a big language shift between the first and the second era (and there's nothing about that in lore).

took me a week to get both max lvl and max rapport and finish the keepsakes

since both have unreasonably long intro quests, there is no way im unlocking them on other characters even though i would really like to use zerith more

we really need a way to bypass the intro quests on alts if they want us to actually make more use of the companions for more than the keepsake passives

I honestly didn't notice that since he has the Khajiiti accent and he uses Khajiiti lore expressions. So he's not 100% accurate, but it's not ruining my immersion as Ember dies

    Technically my option is Neither, since I'm not going to be doing anything until the next free ESO+ Trial, but for whenever that is;

I don't much like the Elven races, so I'm only going to use Tan to level and do the quest-line then do the same for Zer but actually set him up for use and swap him out with Ember and Sharp whenever I fancy, since I love my Khajiits and Argonians!

Yes, me neither (I've finished his 2nd quest so far) - thank you for posting that screenshot!

The question remains why ZOS has made it this way. It's clear it's a deliberate decision they've built an explanation around. Do they think a Khajiit companion appeals to more people if the style of speech is "normal"?
