Are you going to use the new Companions, Tanlorin and Zerith-Var?

I have six companions fully leveled, and many of my alts only have one or two companions unlocked because the companion required intro quests take so long.

I'm the same. I wish that they let us skip a companion's intro quest if we've played it before. It makes having them on alts such a pain.

My initial thoughts were that all of the different companions are intended to give players more choice about which ones they want to collect and use.

However, in light of the special perks that each companion can grant, I do think we're being encouraged to at least collect all of them and level them up to receive their perks-- unless there are certain perks we don't care about.

But collecting all of them and leveling them up for their perks doesn't mean we need to continue actively using all of them.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll eventually collect and level up all of the available companions, including the upcoming ones. But Bastian will most likely remain my preferred companion, unless one of the others I haven't collected yet happens to catch my fancy.

This is a clear quality of life issue that we haven't heard a peep about. I am not expecting it since they didn't announce it.

Let players run the intro quest if they insist, but don't force it.

Since they are free with ESO+ I will level them to get their perks and then will switch back to Bastian (my main tank) just like I did with the rest of the companions.

The companions aren't free even if you are an ESO+ subscriber because ESO+ isn't free.

I did not say they were free. I said they are free with ESO+. It's a common wording for promotions like "Free drink with a purchase of the meal #4" in your local fast food place. No one thinks that that drink is free, but everyone understands that you dot not need to pay its regular price (the one you would have to pay if you did not purchase the meal #4).

I will absolutely unlock their permanent passive effects. If we're talking using them to run with me it all depends on the situation and their abilitites, just like every other companion.

I'm not concerned about anything when it comes to their appearance, their made up personal preferences of any kind or whatever. I'm a pragmatist and so i only want the job done, who even cares.

I unlocked exactly one companion since they came out and I immediately unsommend it after a minute. So I guess the answer is no, I won't use either.

I will most probably level them both because their perks are actually decent (not like the trash that Bastian does).

As for using after that - most probably not. I doubt they will be dramatically better at tanking than Isobel, and that's the only one I very, very rarely use.

Not gonna lie, from a purely visual and artistic standpoint I don't really find Tanlorin compelling. Lowkey highkey the companion just looks like every single nonbinary character ever. From all the other games I've played with this kind of character they all tend to look and act the same. Short unnatural hair cut and color, undeserved smug expression, usually always female. I never understood the smugness, I know we only have two renders of her but why do they always have the same personality? I kinda hope the devs make some kind of visual tweak or have some interesting writing for Tanlorin because I feel like I know everything about her and she isn't even out yet.

I remember wanting to have Isobel unlocked on all chars and only managed to do 10 out of 20... :#
They could give us a way to skip it if we want to but leave us with the option to still finish the rest of the quests later on ^^

I regard the companions as much needed extra content. This is much more relevant now when we have a dearth of questing content in the current development cadence.

Albeit scribing was new content but in it's current iteration rather underwhelming for me as I have yet to replace any of my characters skills on their action bars with any scribed abilities. Still testing and hoping for a breakthrough.

I have a simple principle: My main characters on each server do every new thing hence they acquire the new companions first. Knowing every zone and having done all content up to date makes travelling around quite easy. I do not unlock the companions on any other character until they're levelled up to 20 basically. Guild and Rapport will be levelled by their actual masters/mistresses. Then it is a question of which of my alts would benefit from the new companion, perhaps none? However, doing the quests slowly and enjoying every moment is most important to me.

After rushing through Mirri and Bastian's quests I realized that I was actually cutting down on my enjoyment of this game.
I have an ethereal crown of three spirit crows:
    - On top is Grandfather spouting words of wisdom.
    - On the left is Empathy who is rather naive.
    - On the right is Ego who is rather greedy.
The incessant cackling is quite amusing.

I mean probably not, at least not at first. I probably would have preferred it that way tbh. But that's how she was marketed and so there's nothing else to go off of in terms of forming first impressions. And my first impression is informed by my previous experiences with these types of characters. I'm not really interested in the wider discourse around her I just personally don't find Tanlorin interesting as of right now.

I'm gonna unlock the accountwide passives and then shelve them unless I happen to feel like replaying their quests or using them when I duo dungeons with my friend. I've never liked the dialogue from companions since it's just repeating the same old stuff on a loop forever and I don't have the patience to listen to that... I usually play with sound off so I can't hear them anyway, but when I quest, I just hate hearing stuff like "Stocking up I see?" or the companion screaming at me for playing the game. XD So eh, they're more like a novelty to me anyway, and they all get to take the trip to my favorite xp farming spot, Hircine's Haunt. :^)

I'd have to disagree there. Character's official artwork is very important in terms of establishing an impression on an audience. The small details matter, especially considering they aren't real people you can go and play 20 questions with so its important from an artistic perspective to present defining traits to your audience so that their brain fills in the rest and projects human emotions onto your concept. How do they carry themselves, what is their taste in fashion, what expression best defines them, etc. I don't think Tanlorin's design evokes badassery, at least when comparing her to the many other characters in the game. There's just a stale modernness in her design that takes me out of it. The world of TES isn't like our own and for the most part the character design reflects that, but the way Tanlorin looks its more like someone won a contest and got their OC put into the game. Its jarring in a way, the gender thing is honestly secondary. Idk if I'm explaining myself very clearly but thats what the design reads to me. If you couldn't tell I think about art a lot, maybe too much.

If we have to buy the companions from the crown store i will expect that they be fully leveled and do not require a lengthy quest to obtain. Otherwise, ZOS can keep them as far as I'm concerned. I'd also expect that the companions be immediately available to all toons.

At their very core, companions are basically a third set-and-forget skill bar that can be set up with skills that help us in various ways, slightly increasing our damage output or increasing our defense. Do we really need those extra skills? In a lot of cases no. We could go through the entire game with just light and heavy attacks and that would probably be enough. Everything would take longer, of course!

But our extra skills, such as our class skills, weapon skills, and companion skills do make things easier and more interesting. Now that I’ve played the game with companions, I cannot imagine soloing without them for the unique variety they bring. I can’t wait to see what the two new companions have to offer!
