Do you feel the Fractured Glory skin embodies 10 years of adventures?

As the title suggests, I’m curious of the appeal of this new skin for players. Does this make you feel as though your 10 years of questing is appreciated? Does it make you want to go out and complete the achievement if you have yet to?

Having every pre-requisite beside the new chapter that has yet to release, I can’t help but feel complete disappointment in the fact that our reward is a skin. Skins force a color scheme on your character, hijacking your roleplay if you choose to use them.

Questing is the embodiment of roleplay.

I can’t help but feel that our reward for a decade of attachment with our characters completely misses the mark, as it works contrary to the very spirit of which the achievement is awarded.

    Neither i guess.

it is a cool skin and i love that we got a big achievement for 10 years of zone stories.
Does it embody 10 years of eso? it reminds me of the 10 year anniversary logo, but that's it.

All I can say is I will never use it, find most of the skins in game look ugly, this one especially.

For me the appeal of a game like this is the fact are characters can continue to go on more and more adventurers, you don't reach an end and need to start over like in single player games.

If they wanted to celebrate 10 years of questing I would have much preferred a large number of new quests for are characters to do.

I'm not even sure what that skin is supposed to 'be', let alone how it represents anything I've done in the game?
    Maybe volcanic vents? I dunno.

I have pretty much all of those achieves anyway, needed them for other stuff, but honestly not excited in the skin.
I haven't even ordered Gold Road yet, and for the first time ever, I'm not pre-ordering the new chapter, so I might not get the completion for the new zone 'anyways'.

This is how I feel, basically. I don't use skins overall; if I do, it's one that fits a certain character, their name, their mount, etc.
I've been playing since beta - have the monkey, the Loyal Dwarven Sphere, and the tiger mount. There are a few things that I'd like to be able to choose from for a 10th year reward, sort of the way that you were able to choose what you wanted for each year in Ultima Online. I liked the fact that you were given a choice of a reward each year, including dyes.

If I had a dye selection in TESO, I'd already have my perfect black/red combo on a lot of my costumes! Having a choice of a specific mount would be awesome, especially the ones which are locked behind completion of certain dungeons/arenas or whatever. Being in a guild with Discord and waiting patiently for the ideal group for vSS or any other Vet dungeon got old so I quit them. Catering to all of those demands and getting nothing in return was BS. Give me the option of the mount that I want, already! I've paid more than my share of dues, LOL o:)

I didn't think it was meant to represent anything in particular. To me it's simply a reward for an achievement that people may or may not like or use. People have asked for more cosmetics to be earnable in game, and this does that.

For myself, I don't use any skins on any characters--they just aren't something I like. So while I will eventually get this achievement and reward, it doesn't make much of an impression on me.

I am curious what people think a skin should look like in order to represent questing.

I like kintsugi a lot, but yeah this skin is still pretty ugly. Don't even think I'd use it in a "I'm bored, let's dress up as an MMOer" outfit. It's weird ZOS would give questers something that is so very not roleplay friendly. If they wanted to give us a skin, it could've been a tattoo or scar skin with no markings on the face. Hides vampirism, tells a story, happy vibes.

Honestly I don’t think it’s possible, at best one could hope for body markings of each region, but even then that’s kind of a stretch.

Which brings me to the belief that a skin, especially one like this, does not represent the penultimate achievement in which is required for it, I don’t think one can.

There were so many different avenues for a reward that could have been explored.

Getting the achievement could have unlocked an introduction quest to go unlock something massive, like a new notable home in Cyrodiil and it could have been some grand event, but instead after completing ten years of quests and then Gold Road, we get the privilege of completely overriding our character to become a walking advertisement for the chapter.

The 10-year skin is based off of the japanese tradition of kintsugi; repairing pottery and filling the cracks with gold or other valuable metal with the idea that even when broken, things still hold beauty.

@Djennku, while that’s nice and all, once again in my opinion, this reward is still not one that should embody our character’s journey.

If anything, those should have been handed out at the office for the great job the team has done keeping the game together with bubblegum and tape.

Given that skins are rewarded for other major achievements that require a significant amount of work to accomplish, I think it its right in line with feedback they have received before regarding players who wanted more in-game rewards. I'm not at all surprised that a skin was chosen- there's quite a few players who like to show off their accomplishments by wearing a skin that was difficult to obtain.

I'm not a fan of skins myself, but I think this one is pretty, especially since it resembles kintsugi. It's something I'd probably pull out during the Witches Festival to create some kind of Halloween costume with.

Do I think it is representative of 10 years of gaming? I think so. I think the intention behind the skin goes deeper into the meaning of kintsugi itself. It's even mentioned in the description of the skin on the PTS.

I look at it as a part of a greater whole- we will be, and have been, receiving tons of rewards for various things throughout the game that can be used to customize our characters. Mounts, costumes, houses...who knows what they'll throw at us next? I think it's perfectly fine that the skin isn't something that appeals to everyone. We're all bound to get something we really like during this celebration, since it's going on well into next year.

For that many quest lines to be completed, the rewards should be both a mount and skin to satisfy the skin lovers and mount lovers. To really make it worth it, also include a furniture item.

Quite frankly with all this catering to new players Zos ended up completly ignoring old ones. It's a good short term strategy for sales but a bad long term one.

For exemple past cp 1300 you have absolutely no reward for progression. Is to the point this feel like an unfinished system. It take 10 years of gameplay to reach 3600cp and at the end... nothing. Not even an akivement.

I understend removing vertical progression but removing all progression is bad.

This new skin may be a step in the right direction but... such a little and weak one. The theme for it is really cool though: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/658650/what-the-10-year-anniversary-skin-reminds-me-of#latest

It's a freebie. Players have been doing these quests based on their own merits all these years, so I don't think they should be disappointed. It's not like it's supposed to be the ultimate reward for doing those things, but rather a token to commemorate the experiences. Think of it as a medal.

I think there would be even more complaints if it was a must-have item because then the General Grievances forum would then be in meltdown mode about all the work it takes to get it.

It's a nice gesture and a good idea.

    But it feels thematically disconnected.

What do I mean by that? Well, it doesn't relate to anything that had happened over these years. It doesn't evoke memories or nostalgia. It doesn't symbolize any of the important moments. It's just a skin.

To be fair, I think it's a cool-looking skin, and I like that ZOS is responding to players who say that there should be more things that are earnable in-game, so they deserve credit for that. But a special achievement like this calls for something with more... care.

It's the equivalent of giving someone a gift card for their birthday instead of a more personal gift.

@Silaf you’re spot on the money.

While the theme of the skin is cool, it doesn’t mean that it represents the achievement with which it comes, and it surely doesn’t mean it’s appealing to look at.

As mentioned earlier, an achievement associated with roleplay, should respect player’s freedom of role.

I think it is possible, especially because ZOS employs artists. Could’ve been ritualistic scarring or tattoos of major symbols of each storyline— Dawnbreaker, the Amulet of Kings, a dragon (maybe modeled after a specific quest dragon), a crow, a meteor, the Blade of Woe, the Dark Heart, a Mora eye, the Oblivion symbol…
Could’ve even popped 3 wings on the back (vampire lord, crow, and dragon), Amulet of Kings around the neck, Meteor + Eye + Dark Heart together (down the front?), a weapon on each thigh…
Connected as to not look jumbled by a common art style. I dunno. People with fully tattooed bodies can make themselves look good, I’m sure it would’ve been possible to do this.

You've stated my feelings quite well.

I love that they've created such an achievement, and while I do use a couple of the available skins that have been released over the years, THIS one feels like just another generic skin that doesn't connect thematically to a 10-year anniversary of ESO.
Neither does it fit with any of my currently-existing characters, nor inspire me to think-up a character who would use it, so I don't feel inclined to earn the achievement.

(edit: I get the Kintsugi reference, but even that feels a little vague.)

To riff on your analogy, I think it's more like giving a pre-paid Visa or MasterCard card as a birthday gift.

Named, specific gift cards can be great gifts if they're for a place where the giftee loves to shop.
I've purposely asked for gift cards to specific stores lots of times.

For years I've been saying that they should revamp Cadwell's Gold by introducing class change as the reward, as an acknowledgement that you've played your class long enough and mastered the baddies in all 3 alliances. It would be the perfect earnable reward that they could use to reinvigorate old content.

That, combined with the skin, would make for a proper 10 year anniversary.
