I know it isn't what you want to hear but you should log out and play a different game. It's not worth the frustration. Trust me... I get it.. I truly do.

One person in my raid team was crashing in a specific place every time in raid. He stopped crashing when he disabled all his add-ons. If you haven't tried this already, I suggest it. Not all crashes are caused by add-ons, but some are, and it's worth eliminating them as a potential source.

    Very interesting article.
The largest distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack to date peaked at 5.6 terabits per second and came from a Mirai-based botnet with 13,000 compromised devices.

The UDP-based attack occurred last year on October 29 and targeted an internet service provider (ISP) in Eastern Asia in an attempt to bring its services offline.

Security and connectivity services provider Cloudflare says that the assault lasted 80 seconds but had no impact on the target and generated no alerts because its detection and mitigation was completely autonomous.

Just had a bg just then. Non targeted self skills failed to fire. Not even Weaving. Full resources. Just trying to make skills work.

Meanwhile usual players that are never affected continue to be unaffected. Rattling off skills like there no delay.
I have no will left to help with lag until high action per minute devs play via a vpn from Asia or Oceania to NA and live stream thier experience of thier actions being declined by the server because they are out of frame.

For me this is honestly what makes it so dang frustrating. It's hit and miss for players. Some of my friends that still play have never had an issue but for those of us that do have this issue.. it's constant 100% of the time.

I've tried everything.. I know I've said it 100 times but I don't know what more I can do. I've even worked with my ISPs engineers to look into pathing/routing and they weren't able to see anything "out of scope".

Just to highlight what I've done for those new people coming to this thread with issues.

Attempted fixes that gave no improvement:

    Changes made within ESO
    • Fresh install on all pc's
    • No Add-ons running
    • Potato settings all the way to maxed everything
    • Multithread on/off

    PC "Stuff":
    • Replicated the issue 100% of the time on three different pc's
    • - 1 Intel 13th Gen w/ 2070 Super
    • - 1 Intel 9th Gen with 4060
    • - 1 AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D with 4090
    • Tried various overclocks, standard, 1 stick of ram all the way to 64GB, no change there

ISP - During this I ran Ping Plotter 24/7
    • DSL
    • - Swapped out modem/router from ISPs own to gaming one from bestbuy
    • -- Left settings default, no filtering, base protection kind of stuff (issue was still present)
    • -- Added the ESO ports thats listed on the support page (zero improvement in Ping Plotter.... tbh I think it got worse.. can't remember exaclty though it was a while ago)
    • Starlink High Performance
    • - Bought the $2,500 starlink dish and priority plan "for science"
    • - Used the router directly connected to pc and issue was there - tested on all 3 machines
    • - Issue remained with the gaming router so factory reset and ran through the same steps I did with DSL (issue remained regardless of what settings I had)
    • - Bought a name brand non-gaming and did the above steps - no difference
    • Fiber
    • - Moved about an hour away and got Fiber 1GBs installed
    • -- Used the default modem/router and issue was still there
    • -- tested with gaming router/modem, non-gaming, and even bought a Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro to handle the network - zero change

    Network
    • Tried many VPNs - once in a while I'll land on a connection/route that reduces the rate in which I rubberband/dc but it's still multiple times an hour
    • Wifi/hard wired, new cables (make my own but also bought new cables "for science pt2") - no change

I'd say I'm over $10,000 in the hole on trying to "make ESO work" on my side. I'm scared to see how much I've actually spent on this game since beta lol. But, I spend that much because I really enjoy the game and the friends/memories made playing it.

Anyways... for those of you coming to this thread who are having issues... here is what I have done thus far and none of it has had an impact on improving performance.

If anyone has done something that has shown an improvement please reply to this post and let me know!!

Also tagging @ZOS_Kevin just for tracking purposes. I'm sure this has all been passed to the team but... if it hasn't here is what I've done.

This is definitely a server side issue, for me it started happening around the time of the last MYM event and has persisted since. Around that time my latency went up by around 30ms and is usually in the 80-100ms (though frequently spikes to 999) regardless of what I am doing be that PvP or talking to a banker or just standing in a player home doing nothing.

The problem is not on our end, after all this testing that much has become obvious, something is very wrong on ZOS's end.

I agree with you 100%. However, there was a period there where I was determined it was an issue on my side. Even when I was starting to realize it was a ZoS issue I wanted to be 100% sure of it before making that claim (as someone who used to work IT before becoming a Software Enginner I'm all too familiar with users saying its someone elses fault when it really is their fault).

Going through these hoops allowed me to confidently say, it's a ZoS issue.

EVEN if it's an outside vendor like Akamaii or an upstream provider who is haviong a "blip" it's ZoS Enginer/System being unable to handle that "blip" and continue operating. IMO still falls on ZoS.

I recently upgraded my system from a PS4 to a PS5. As expected, many of the lag and loading issues were ameliorated with the hardware upgrade. I was, however, surprised that I was still experiencing the same type of lag at the same points in the game. Sometimes it was less noticeable than on the PS4 and for some characters it wouldn't result in gameplay/combat issues, but lag had the same tell-tale signs. First the sound would stop loading (skill sounds not playing, music drops out, enemy sounds go away, ambient sounds lost) and then enemies wouldn't load (during things like dark anchors or mirror incursions). I even still get random load screens (albeit I would get through the load screens faster).

Besides the lag spikes following the same pattern (in terms of what I would notice), I also noticed that the spikes tended to occur at the same physical locations in particular maps and that the spikes would be worse on characters that I had a lot more playtime on (and subsequently, had more things unlocked on -- like eidetic memory, more than the 9 blue crafting motifs learned, more parts of the map revealed, more achievements tied to the specific character). For example, while I was completing dolmens today in Reaper's March, my main character (who has done all the stories, collected all the things) would always get a full load screen while traveling over the bridge from the Arenthia wayshrine south to the dolmen. In dungeons, my main/oldest/most played tank would get big lag spikes and missing adds between portals in Bedlam Veil (even got a full load screen), while my newest tank (arc) would get a slight bit of lag that amounted to nothing more than sound effects and music missing.

Replying here as well to your DM so other people can see what I said.

I'm not able to "replicate" it so to speak. It's more of a.. it happens every 5-10 minutes so I'd know if it was resolved if I could make it an hour or so without having the crash/lag spike/rubber band issue.

Since May/June I haven't had an hour of play time that wasn't hit with this issue.

I've also worked with multiple ISP here in Aus. I have also played in Brasil.
    I've used mulitple VPN/GPN.
I have used multiple brands of routers. I have mixed multiple routers in the network.
I have used multiple PC, both Intel, AMD and nvidia parts. All with different network ports.

2 Battlegrounds back to back. Both I cannot even get the game to accept self target skills or bar swap. Not even that laggy transform ball games. Get stuck in heavy attack, rage quit.

Jump out to pve land and I'm still getting audio from the BG. Do some skills, they all fire fine.

Yup. me in a nutshell. Still happening.

For the life of me I can't figure out what the common theme is. Is it a location thing.. like pathing say from NY -> ATL -> Texas Data Center... like thats a bad line and anyone that plays through that path is SOL?

Then say there are 10 of those kind of situations. Florida -> ATL -> TX.... Denver -> TX but KC -> TX is fine...

    Talking out loud here.

this is so frustrating. cant get anything done. Every trial always disconnects and then cant log back in after, makes progging trials with groups impossible.

This is such a waste of everyone's time, it makes me just want to quit and do something else, if this isnt going to be addressed. in 3-4 months this thread will be a year old with no resolution or actions taken to alleviate any of these problems.

Yeah, but… have you tried ruling out your add ons? Have you tried following the instructions listed in ZOS’s technical support pages? ;)

Just kidding, just kidding. It’s very clear from your considerable troubleshooting efforts that this is not a user-end problem. It’s incredible that we’re now almost nine months into this whole debacle and are no closer to knowing what’s going on or how soon game performance will be fixed. ESO remains uninstalled on my PC.

This is a really good video!

I know everyone will say "Oh you're in Cyro that is why!" NO

Anyone that has played in Cyro knows that performance hasn't been great for years. BUT what this video shows and what is happening is different than the usual "lag".

It's difficult to describe without playing PvP over the years but there is just a "feel" to the game. This was always something you could play through and when it got super bad "slide show" it hit everyone at the same time - lasted a few seconds - and then the server picked back up. FPS was a bit lower and ping wasn't anything out of the norm (never got 999+ during these slideshow moments).

What we have now is entirley different. This is something that is hit and miss for who it effects, crash/dc because of it (didn't for typical cyro lag), and it's just a whole new beast.

If you've played the game for a minute you know what I'm trying to describe... maybe there is someone who can say it better than me. If so, please try lol.

EDIT: Another thing I forgot to bring up is that those old school cyro performance issues we got used to playing through NEVER crossed over to PvE side of the house.

This current issue 100% has crossed over to PvE. I've had it happen to me in trials, dungeons, afk in my house alone, randomly in a field harvesting mats

I also notice that pretty reliably performance tanks in IC sewers when running in group of 2-3 or more for me. (Frame rates get cut in half or more) And is the only zone that reliably does this for me.

Also happens when just fighting NPCs and not any other players.

    - Crashed during the load screen after I selected my character and before I managed to actually get into the game, kicked back to log in screen with error had occurred message.

    Second Attempt

    - Got ingame, loaded into Bastion Sanguinaris, game crashed to log-in screen within 10 seconds with error had occurred message.

    Third Attempt

    - Was able to stay logged in for over 10-15 minutes, then crashed with an error had occurred message.

Thanks for this. We sent this write up to our engineers and they are taking a look. They may have some follow up questions @LadyGP, so just in case, keep an eye on your dms

Following up here @ZOS_Kevin - If there are any tools, like Ping Plotter, or any specific logging/ip tracking that would be helpfull to the engineers please let me know.

I have no problem playing ESO this weekend/next week and getting some logs or something compiled.
